Summer course: Introduction to Quran

Dr. Brubaker has accepted an invitation to teach a masters' level course at Veritas International University. The course begins June 28, 2021. The course will review the history, text, content, and theology of the Quran at a survey level, as part of their MAPI program (Master of Arts in Apologetics and Polemics to Islam). This will be a 7-week course.
You do need to be a Christian to take this course, as it is being taught at the 'Veritas International University' (VIU) which is a Christian seminary, and can only permit Christian students to participate.
Depending on how many students sign up, the course will either be taught 'in person' at a location in California, over a 6-day period from June 28th to July 3rd, with evening classes for 5 days, and a whole day the last day, Saturday the 3rd, or once a week over a seven week period, beginning the evening of June 28.
All of the lectures will be recorded 'live' by Zoom Webinar, so that those who can't make it to California, can still watch the lectures wherever they are in the world. These lectures will also be uploaded to their MAPI Vimeo site for those who are not able to be awake during the lecture sessions.
If we don't get enough students to come to California (by the end of this month, in other words by May 31st), then we will move back to the usual schedule of weekly Monday evening lectures, beginning on Monday the 28th of June, and continuing each Monday evening, until the 9th of August, each lecture going from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time), all entirely online, using Zoom.
There are 3 categories of students who may enroll:
1) The first are those who want to take this course for a Masters or a Doctorate academic credit. The fee for this 7-week course is around $1,000
2) The second are those who want to audit the course to obtain an audit certificate at the end of the 7 weeks. The fee for this 7-week course is $280
3) The third are those who simply want to take this course for their 'Personal Enrichment'. The fee for this 7-week course is $185.
All enrolled students will have access to all of the lectures, and to all of the PowerPoints for the entire course.
If you are interested in any of these 3 levels, simply e-mail the registrar 'Noelle' at: info@ves.edu
But you need to hurry, as the deadline for those who want to come to California to be with and listen to Dr. Brubaker face-to-face is the end of this month, which is just a few days away.
For the others who will be joining us via Zoom, you have another month to get your registration in.
For more information, email info@ves.edu, and tell them 'Dr. Brubaker sent you'

Dan, very unfortunate that you decided to teach a course as a part of an Apologetic course to/against Islam. One of the reasons why I, as a Muslim, enjoyed watching your videos was your scholarly and unbiased approach to your work. Your participation in this course casts an unfortunate cloud over the academic nature of your work. Whereas I used to watch your videos for the pure enjoyment of learning, I (and I am sure other Muslims) now feel that there deeper/more sinister motivations other than pursuit of scientific discovery. Saddened to say the least.

@@worldcitizen3519 No. It does not approve hitting women. The verse you are talking about deals with a *certain of wives* [not all wives, not all women]. -Inheritance shares are not linked to gender. How is that? In some cases, females inherit more than males or receive the same shares. If a Muslim dies and is survived by just a son & a daughter. the *female inherits exactly like her brother* . It is in that verse. Re-read the verse using a calculator, noting down the shares in fractions. As for testimonies, who would now resort to women witnesses in financial transactions/car deals/trade exchange especially rural societies? What is the percentage of females in these activities? But if they're specialized women, the picture changes. *I, for one, would take for witness a woman specialized in auditing/finance..etc because her testimony outweights that of laymen. It is a question of specialization.

Why you are not talking about the oral tradition where we have millions of Quran Hafith or Quran memorizal over 1400 years and most of them doesn’t know how to read or write Arabic. Why would a 9 years old in a village in Egypt or China or India or Nigeria momrized the all Quran the same way. You have to solve the oral tradition problem and why there are no oral variance even in the different Qraat. The oral tradition is what preserved Quran over 1400 years and literally millions and millions of Hafith scattered from Spain to China and through this oral tradition written manuscripts was always corrected because there were no copy machines or print productions. It is almost impossible for scriber not to make error specially if they are not Hafith or they don’t know the language which most of scriber are. The other interesting part is that oral tradition survived the Muslims civil wars was all the polorization and the claims of missing versus of Quran and missing all Quran like Quran Ali. There were much nastier claims about Quran variants made by Muslims scholars over the last 1400 years but none of those claims survived the tsunami of oral tradition with millions of momrizal of Quran across the earth over 1400 years. If you know what you are talking about , Hafith is a social status since 1400 years and millions and millions of men and women achieved that status across 1400 years. Just search KZread Muslims children Hafith and see what you get, majority dont speak the language man. Please point out variants in oral tradition and if cannot , you need answer why
