Sounds of Mediterranean Sea
Cicadas: Cicadas (/sɪˈkɑːdə/ or /sɪˈkeɪdə/) are insects in the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha (which was formerly included in the now invalid suborder called "Homoptera"). Cicadas are in the superfamily Cicadoidea. Their eyes are prominent, though not especially large, and set wide apart on the anterior lateral corners of the frons. The wings are well-developed, with conspicuous veins; in some species the wing membranes are wholly transparent, whereas in many others the proximal parts of the wings are clouded or opaque and some have no significantly clear areas on their wings at all. About 2,500 species of cicada have been described, and many remain to be described. Cicadas live in temperate-to-tropical climates where they are among the most-widely recognized of all insects, mainly due to their large size and unique sound. Cicadas are often colloquially called locusts, although they are unrelated to true locusts, which are various species of swarming grasshopper. Cicadas are related to leafhoppers and spittlebugs.

If you ever visit the southern Balkans (countryside), this is how it sounds in the summer. Imagine it's 3pm, the sun is shining really bright, everyone is sleeping, you can hear forks and knifes here and there, and of course cicadas... a lot of cicadas.

I will never forget one summer in Spain, in 2012. I went to the ancient ruins of a Roman city called Emporiae, sat down on a brick wall surrounded by Salamanders, looked at that blue sea behind the trees, the sun upon my skin, with exactly this sound. That was quite something. Best vacation I ever had.

This sound relaxes me so much. It brings me nostalgia, I would sit in my front yard drink a glass of lemonade, hear the water sprinklers go off, the sun slowly going down, the neighborhood quiet as ever, and feeling the warm heat hug me. This sound was my childhood and I miss it so much. I plan to move somewhere in the country where I can feel at peace again just to hear this noice in the middle of summer on a hot day.

god i can feel the heatwave just by watching and hearing the video...
It reminds me of my vacation in Rome, Italy. When I left the Ciampino airport, all I could hear is this... And felt the heat of course. The streets were empty, not a single person except for cars and looking at those huge trees and palm trees made everything better. I love Italy

this is a good recording of cicadas, thanks. i was trying to describe them to a friend, and so many of the recordings here on youtube are so harsh, whereas this captures the more droning soothing feel that i associate with them when i hear them live.

This brings me back to every summer growing up
This reminds me of Gianicolo Hill in Trestevere, Rome. Hearing the cicadas sing, and seeing all historic Rome in front of me at a distance, a view I will never forget.
love that sound, reminds me of when i went to corfu, greece & south albania in aug 2023 for vacation. 👍good times.
Every time I hear cicadas I'm taken back to my childhood Summer days at my grandma's house. Miss those days and miss my grandma ❤️
Sound from my childhood 💛 Unfortunately, now I live far from the south
For me this is the sound of the summer or maybe it summons the sea me up.
You know it's officially summer when you hear this sound.
Sitting in the shade of an old walnut tree on hot summer afternoon, cold beverage in one hand and listening to this
I can never hear cicadas the same way again since higurashi...
I was inspired to look up videos with cicada sounds after listening to the cicadas in my museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
I always come back here when I miss the vacations on the Italian riviera.
literally 24/7 here in italy, doesnt matter where i go

They’re not found there, it’s probably another species. The northern most point for them in Europe is somewhere in central Serbia
@eliotsmith4562
Жыл бұрын
@@hi1is I heard this species in Balatonfüred last year. If you search youtube for cicadas in Hungary (or kabóca magyaroszágon) then you'll find videos of them. I think they may be moving north slowly due to climate change. There are other cicadas I hear in Budapest, but not this species.
I've only ever heard this abroad, but one year in the Uk I went to a wild meadow (public access, national trust land) and was stunned and thrilled to hear this sound here too! ^*^ I closed my eyes and pretended i was in Hawaii lol (I don't know if they have them, but u know!) I've since found other walks nearby with them. I've tried to capture some to put in my garden, but they only stay 2 nights and fly away (back to the fields?) I've tons of grasses and flowers but nope! I guess I'll listen to this in the day :) Thanks!

There are actually several different species of cicadas that have different calls. I'm from Central Illinois, so I grew up with the same "WEEEEWOOOOO" cicadas you're talking about. I have to admit these ones have a more gentle crickety sound, but they don't trigger the same summer nostalgia in me that the screaming ones do.

as someone who is not native to a country with cicadas (im from the UK) you have no idea how pleasant this sound is to someone who lives in a country that rarely sees the sun for more than 5 days a year. It reminds me of summer holidays to Turkey and Cyprus, bathing in the warmth and having a nice time with family. i can imagine this noise would be annoying to those who hear it all the time but for me its a very nostalgic sound that I only get the pleasure of hearing once every couple of years.

who came here after watching higurashi no naku koro ni?
I heard a sound like that one night as a child in Corona, CA, that was gone the next night, and I was told it was due to pesticide spraying. Instead, I was visited by a praying mantis clawing loudly at the window screen wanting to come inside away from the poison. Years later a whale shark came to me while I was on watch to have a hauser rope cut free from its neck. About decade ago I jotted down some of my animal adventures: someone said I must be St. Francis. I hope to use cyborg technology to be Dr. Dolittle. skews.me/animals
