Martin is completely right on this one. By the third act this completely falls apart. There is no explanation why they formed the team, why they are even there. Harley Quinn was originally a part of the squad because of her knowledge of Arkham. Why in the hell would they send her and Boomerang against these powerful beings.

DCEU: Fool me once, I'm mad. Fool me twice, how could you? Fool me three times OKAY YOU'RE OFFICIALLY THAT GUY. YOU KNOW THE ONE.

Assault on Arkham is a much better movie. Having the Joker be the main villain makes much more sense, because then they actually have a reason to have Harley on the team.

Corey's a better Joker than Leto.

you're right the joker was pointless in this movie. And the writing was just too bad to tell if leto is a good joker. Also why did he shock harley? Just to make her crazier? If she's so obsessed with joker, wouldn't she just let him shock her without the goons capturing her?

At this point we can say Christopher Nolan is the only reason the DCU isn't completely in shambles.

I had more fun with this review than I had with the movie. Thank you Doable Toasted team for being as brutally honest as you always are, this is why I watch you guys.

This movie should've been all about the Joker. It would've been more focused for starters, and it could've given a good reason for the Suicide Squad to be created. Not as a group that will fight super beings (which is beyond idiotic). But to actually fight Joker because of a certain grudge they hold against him, maybe they have bad history with him. And of course Harley Quinn is chosen because they think she hates him for what he did to her, not knowing she's completely brain washed and in love with him, which will fuck things up in the end. Might not be the best idea ever, but at least it would be coherent.

It doesn't even make much sense why Amanda Waller thinks the Suicide Squad can fight Superman. Most of them aren't even metahumans. Only Enchantress, El Diablo, and Killer Croc are metahumans. I guess you could count Katana too since she has a magic sword. Superman would flatten them in half a second. And before you say that Superman is vulnerable to magic, they don't know that in the DCEU. Superman hasn't fought any magical villains so they have no idea that magic can hurt him. And even if he's vulnerable to magic, he's still Superman. He's not just going to stand there and let Katana cut him with her sword. If he turned evil, he could just melt her down with his heat vision from a mile away.

Enchantress could take Superman as her specialty is magic. (SPOILER>>) The only reason she was defeated in the movie was because of Harley's manipulation skill, she has learned from the best (Joker)

MrCenation132546 Batman won because he had Kryptonite and Superman wasn't trying to kill him. And he was killed by a Kryptonian monster who was way more powerful than the Suicide Squad combined. Amanda Waller's reasoning for creating the Suicide Squad is to fight someone with Superman's power who was evil. If Superman was evil, he could just kill the entire Suicide Squad from miles away with his heat vision.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about Wonder Woman, but I hate that I have to be cautious about it because I fucking LOVE Wonder Woman. Of course, it'll never be perfect, because it's coming out in a time after Lucy Lawless could player her, but I'll always have Xena I guess...

6/10 is the same as 60%. Thats simply passing. "Good" would be 8/10. The movie has entertaining parts but it suffers from Warner Bros stuffin crap in that doesn't need to be there.

GritsnBeans 8/10 isn't simply "good" it's great. 6/10 is decent which translates to most people as good since it means the good outweihgs the bad and if you were asked if it was good or bad you would say it was good in that scenario. 7/10 is good. 9/10 is awesome. 10/10 is amazing or something along those lines. Point being once you get pass the half way mark it's rated as decent.

It's a shame this movie fell apart. When I saw the first trailer to this I thought it was gonna be DCs Guardians of the Galaxy, which is one of my favorite comic book movies. And this was one of my most anticipated DC movie, even more so after BVS completely bombed.

The movie had a few decent moments but i agreee it fell apart at the end the enchantress was a cool effect at first but the more they kept showing of her was worse and when she was belly dancing me and my friends laughed so hard, its a low matinee the good parts are decent the bad parts hilarious its a good time with friends entertaining but flawed

Ulquiorra Schiffer1 I did see it. Ever hear of late night Thursday showings? The film itself does more damage because it was bad thanks to the editing and CGI heavy ending battle that had no tension or emotion.

Suicide Squad: Basically a triumph of marketing.

+Alina Zhidil that's because by nature of the titular character the director could cut loose without the worry of offending anyone or backlash. my original point is that this movie had an initial version that seems to have been messed up by excess re-shoots to make it more fun. Plus you're partly right, Deadpool was rated r, and with Suicide Squad no doubt greed contributed to DCs decision to go pg 13.

+meg I agree. I've never read any of the comics but I fucking love the idea of these bad guys doing good. I feel like the tone shouldve been along the lines of The Devil's Rejects. Darkly funny but at times disturbing. Think about how crazy (and ironic) it would be to see horrible people doing horrible things in order to accomplish good things. That couldve also been used to comic effect as well. Also think of how rad it would be to see the Joker in an R rated movie and all the shit he could get away with. So much missed opportunity...

They actually hid from everyone that Zack Snyder is one of the people who worked on the script for Wonder Woman www.slashfilm.com/wonder-woman-screenwriters/ . They knew how poisonous his name his become so they HID that he had involvement with a movie everyone thought he had no hands in FFS.

I'm with Corey; they had the perfect template for a solid Suicide Squad movie with Assault on Arkham. It came out like half a year if not a full year before Suicide Squad! You could've modified the script; I don't know how much money that would've cost but fuck man it would've made for more views so you would've made that money back! Joker was so hilariously bad it could only have been intentional! I mean listen to the shit Leto was doing behind the scenes for God's sake; they should've just had cameras following him around while he fucked with the rest of the cast, it would've been more in line with the character than this gangbanger bullshit!

And the R-rating helped in Deadpool, but Ultimately, they needed a Better Script. The Director was cool, the Cast is cool, you can Cut the Enchantress out and leave in the Joker since he has personality. Doing these things would've helped secure the movie.

Nahhh. They didn't need an overwhelming amount of violence and R rated stuff. They just needed to make an enjoyable movie. Have a crazy antagonist that's killable, have them be crazy, crack some clever dialogue that will make each and every character play off each other's personalities. But this?... most of these people aren't even characters.

I more or less assumed Suicide Squad would be a more sophisticated and interesting version of Assault on Arkham. Looks like I had it backwards...

That rant at the end made me so happy lol. Shame about the film though, really good point.

My favorite thing is that they managed to awkwardly shoehorn Batman into this movie. Not just shoehorn him in, but _awkwardly_ shoehorn him in. In a Batverse story, with Batman villains, in Batman's city. That's storytelling so lazy I can't help but laugh at it.

As much as I like ripping on DC. It's come to a point where I'm wasting money and time on a crappy movie. Copy Marvel if you have to.

They were trying so hard to sell people on Jared Letos Joker with all the stupid headlines and articles about stupid little "crazy" stuff he was doing on the set and what not. I honestly don't know how DC manages to fuck up every single film they make. Ever since the comic con trailer, I've been so hyped up for this movie and it turned out to be such a disappointment. Same exact thing with batman v superman. Now, the Wonder Woman trailer looked fucking awesome but it's probably just gonna be another letdown.

The Justice League Movie is a guarantee failure.

I would just like to remind everyone that the Marvel vs DC argument war has been dead for a LONG time. Now it is just a matter of if the movie is good or not. The Task Force X episode of JL is still 10x better than this movie.

From what I heard from conversations people really didn't like the waiting till the end to use all his powers at once and though the bullet off the eyeball was ridiculous but in its entirety didn't hate the film at all. Of course I haven't talked to millions of people, but just from covos and reading critics/audience reviews they don't hate it. MOS gave the bigger spectacle but it should have imo I went to sleep on it in theaters and think it was only decent because of Michael Shannon's Zod.

The DC cartoon movies are so damn good, they should just animated these things and put them in theaters.

This movie was ridiculous. In a mediocre way. DC is trying too hard to catch up to Marvel instead of working at this pace. All of DC 's movies feel like too much crammed in too soon. There were some positives, but overall this shit failed.

no one mentioned the fucking dire script. "YOU DON'T WANT TO BE KILLED BY HER!" "HER HEART IS OUT!" Jesus fucking Christ.

marvel is winning because there are building up to a grand story thanos and then infinite gauntlet a universal threat to every .....Dc is just shoving everything they got at you .

20:02 Regarding the editing in that scene, it's all a part of Harley's story; that said, it's shot from her point of view. The edits suggest she was already going crazy before he attacked her. They keep happening because her mind is scattered and imbalanced after all the trauma. We get more of those edits with each of her flashbacks as she remembers being with him.

I don't think Joel Kinneman was that bad. He was better than Jai Courtney. Margot Robbie did a PASSABLE Harley Quinn performance. Unfortunately the same cannot be said Leto's Joker, which was almost as bad Eisenberg's Luthor in BVS. WTF did they pick Cara Delevine to be the enchantress? She was a lame villain anyway, and her brother was just like Korey said; a shitty special effect. This was a horribly executed movie, that completely squandered any potential it had, because of corporate studio-executives. Some Old Bullshit!

DC lets count the disappointments. Green Lantern movie sucked - Green Lantern First flight animated movie, fucking awesome Man of Steel sucked - Superman vs the Elite or even All Star Superman, very good animated movies Batman V superman was dogshit - The world's finest (comics, animated shows and movie), nuff said Suicide Squad was decent to bad at the end - Batman: Assault on Arkham, such an awesome animated film. DC should just copy the awesomeness of the animated movies

It's not even about individual movies. Mystery Men managed to be a pretty fun character-driven superhero team movie as it was. DC just needs to provide focused balanced offerings. If they understand that, they could make a good movie about Space Cabby that would get people invested in a space taxi driver.

Personally, this film is a "double fuck you". The best bits are with Will Smith and some of Harley Quinn's scenes were good. Jared Leto is wasted, the story is so bad, the musical arrangement somehow managed to shit on the great songs used, most of the characters are useless, CG was terrible, action was boring and just dumb-looking. This made BVS look like The Dark Knight and went beyond disappointing. Hopefully, DC can put some quality control on their future productions.

Out of all of the justified criticisms of this film, the one about Deadshot being sympathetic and having a daughter is the one that makes the least sense. He's been sympathetic since the John ostrander run of suicide squad, and has had a daughter in comic continuity for years at this point.

Now I want to go and see Assault in Arkham.

Damn Korey's rant is the craziest I've ever seen from him. He's absolutely right, definitely did not have faith in what DC was turning out. God damn Warner Bros is what keeps it fucked. Thankfully it has improved. The Suicide Squad was pretty good and HBO series Peacemaker and soon to come spin offs from the recent The Batman movie which was great. DC has the window but AQUAMAN 2 might fuck it again. Let's see how FLASH does. Fun review! Thanks guys.

Saw the movie with my mom who knows nothing about comics (unlike me) and we both enjoyed it a lot. It was fun and I'm glad I watched it. Though the movie is not without its flaws. But harley quinn, deadshot, and Amanda waller were definitely standouts in the movie.

Even Jerome's character in Gotham sold me as the Joker, this movie gave us a drug addict that happens to like smiling.

My friend, I feel your pain but your anger is misguided. DC is not and has never been the problem. The problem has always been that the powers-that-be, over at the WB, have no love or respect for comic book movies. The recent promotion of Geoff Johns has been their(WB) biggest stride towards the serious involvement of their DC creative resources. And that only came about as a concession from embarrassing decision making being revealed to the public at large. Prior to that, creators of the comics / cartoons / video games were not regarded as 'Movie People' by the decision makers at Warner Brothers. Examples of this disdain pop up time and time again; most recently when the 2008 EW interview with Snyder resurfaced shortly after the release of Batman v(s) Superman. The focus of the interview was his, then, current project 'Watchmen' but he took the opportunity voice his low opinion of mainstream comicbook characters; specifically Batman and Superman. This got a lot of people asking "Why were the two biggest names in the franchise put in the hands of a man who thought so little of them?". To which Warner Brothers responded, "Our bad. Okay, I guess Geoff Johns can have some legitimate control... but he's gonna have a chaperone".

dc comics are better then marvel to me but marvel movies are the best

This was the only DCEU movie I liked. Unlike MoS and BvS I found the characters likeable and interesting with a simple story that made some sense. I think the new take on Joker will establish Joker and Harley as a matched set which is a good angle to take. However I don't think Joker v Batman can work in this universe (after beating Superman what's the point?), I wouldn't mind seeing Joker v Suicide Squad though.

I'm still seeing this movie for my own amusement. I need to know with my own two eyes as I watch this film and can tell if it is worth recommending.

I agree! Like, how do you shell out that kind of money and not provide a good story? I enjoy it for the actors' performances, but the writers should have had more time.

Okay, so I'm not a dedicated fan or anything. I don't know all there is to know about the characters. I have a question for real fans. What are Harley Quinn's and Deadshot's powers? =o I mean they get a task force with what they call meta-humans (I'm guessing that means people with super powers). So what are those two characters' special powers? Because to me, it seems like one is good at shooting and the other is just crazy. =o

But I guess since she is kind of a henchwoman/right hand woman to the joker, she is also good at being a teamplayer. Now I am starting to see her value on the team. =D

Well..... it's really a team of expendable criminals for suicide missions. Metahuman powers, optional. Basically, it's DC comics version of the Expendables except with less old 80's action stars. LOL. Harley has no powers. Deadshot is a good sniper on par with Hawkeye and Green Arrow for accuracy except he uses guns instead of a bow. Look at Capt. Boomerang. He throws boomerangs........ yeah....... that's it. Katana? She's got a sword. At least they had Diablo and Croc. Slipknot? Total joke. Oh we can't forget Rick Flagg as the generic soldier leader with guns. It's a great team if you're hoping they all die when you throw them up against THAT type of villain.

Personally, I believe that DC super heroes (and villains) are easily 10x better than those of Marvel. Not trying to hate or anything, I love Marvel - it just really sucks seeing some of these movies end up so poorly.

That's really the biggest issue about the DCCU they have perfect inspiration in all of their animated versions to be able to draw from to create their movies, done with way less cash and usually great renditions of classic stories. Give those to the live action renditions and they could do wonders, but they're either letting the studios or the creatives screw with the formula too much and it breaks down. I still have hope for the Justice League and WW movies... but, I also thought they had this one on a decent track, so...

I knew they weren't gonna like this movie. lol its cool though cuz I'm still a DC fan, and I'm looking forward to future films. Corey saids he dosen't care noe....until that 2nd justice league trailer drops. then it's gonna be "shhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiidddddd" haha

Meanwhile, DC's animated department is knocking it out of the park. Maybe WB should just let them make the movies.

Warner Bros gave Ayer 6 weeks for a script. Thats why the story is a freakin mess. Dont blame Ayer, blame WB.
