Suggested Design: 15SW100 / DCX464 / ME464 Point Source

Ғылым және технология

Shortly to be released: a new suggested design showcasing our ME464 half-meter wide 300Hz horn, DCX464 wide-bandwidth coaxial compression driver with FB464 passive crossover, and 15SW100 woofers. This is a three way point source, requiring two channels and some basic processing to realize 40Hz - 18kHz response at extreme output levels with excellent directivity control to below 300Hz.
Thanks to Eighteen Sound’s Francesco Mazzini for the design, realization, and preset work! Expect to see this on the B&C website around the end of July 2021. www.bcspeakers.com/en/resourc...

    What you think of paaring the DCX462 with two 15BG100 in a sealed box? Crossed at around 350-400hz. Seams good for me for home hifi/home theater use with linkwitz down to f3 at 31,25hz for good inroom response at my location. No high spl needed but effiency desired.

    why distinc volume for the speakers ? lot of volume lost behind the horn can be angle more the speaker and use the full volume ? why 10deg on the cabinet ? the side handle are centered, but i bet the center gravity is strongly on front of this handles...

    LOL those 15s look puny in front of that horn. I was thinking those are 8" or 10" mids at first. 21s would look much better to partner that beast.

    21" could work. The DCX compression driver goes down to 300hz recommended. It can go lower with less output. So if the 21" can do 300hz it should be able to work....

    too cool! thanks I want live levels for stereo. So I am looking at pro drivers all the time. Am I wrong? or Dumb? Help a man out please and this video is a great suggestion and exactly what I think I need. I spent 25 years doing live sound, and there is nothing like the dynamics of being on stage ( or at monitor mixer) I've been chasing that high for years now that I'm retired. no home ( like my tekton) speakers I have tried have the headroom. They are delightful yes, but fall very short on volume from dome tweeters. NO fault to Tekton, again they are awesome to behold, and are very detailed and dynamic. But what they lack is that instant Suprise you get from a wedge turned up loud that makes your ears tickle and your eyes blink. When it slaps you louder than you thought anything could. Suprise from dynamics? you ever had that? almost scares you? I wont have 8000 wt amps but with the old QSC amps I have from 20 yrs ago should I still expect the driver improvements to be substantial? My woofer are JBL 2241 and 2206 but still play. but not hifi at all. are these on the b+c website?

    Is the LF-driver angling critical , regarding timing or dispersion?

  • @kamilkieca3212

    @kamilkieca3212

    I wouldn't say critical. Depends on the acoustical crossover decision. It expands the HF flare and takes less space heightwise for sure.

    It's to get the acoustic centers closer together, also it doesn't hurt to make the box a bit shorter!

  • @zzink

    I feel like the extension down to 40hz isn't necessary? Why even mention it doesn't need a subwoofer?? Who would possibly need/build this box without having a half dozen decent subs to pair it with? Seems like you'd be better off doing like 80-100hz+ and squeezing out every last drop of sensitivity considering it's obviously going to be used for live sound and not home use. I know there was talk about this waveguide+coaxial being paired with 15NDL88 what was main reason for driver change to 15SW100?

  • @bennettprescott

    @bennettprescott

    Hey Rhys, the cabinet has to be pretty big anyway, and the ME464 has enormous output. I wanted very tight low frequency capability, the good extension comes more or less for free since there's no problem putting enough port in the box. The 15SW100 is an outstanding LF performer and very low distortion at high excursion thanks to its split coil design. The 15NDL88 is a lot lighter, and better above 600Hz, but wouldn't give that same "hammer of God" feeling you can get from a box this size. I don't like separate subs except as an effect, and I'm not convinced the sensitivity would be much better even losing an octave of extension, so it's a matter of personal preference I suppose!
