Boxing has ebs and flows. The 80s really wasn't a great time for boxing, but the 90s were and the early 2000s. Not to mention MMA is stealing so much talent.

This could be a GOLDEN era as well Heavyweights, Light Heavies, Middleweights, and Welters except everyone s too AFRAID to risk their standing w a loss They all want the big PPV but casual sports fan s never heard of anyone save Fury, Wilder, Canelo, and GGG no one else is an A side...sorry Bud and Errol! the truth hurts!

Both Hearns and Leonard were past their peaks at this point, but I don't ever recall two boxers who matched up so evenly against each other. The speed and boxing ability of Leonard, the raw power and explosive punching ability of Hearns. They definitely put on two all time classic matches.

Look how well the two treat each other after the fight. This is true sportsmanship.

I agree. A golden era that is unlikely to be repeated in any weight division.

Both boxers a little past their peaks but still put on a great show. Hearns was robbed of course and showed great humility and class not to have ranted and raged at the injustice he suffered that night. Boxing’s greatest era in my opinion.

@@cade9173 Dont get it wrong, I think Lenard is one of the best, he allows gave a 110%. And he ALWAYS fought his way through a tuff fight, I just felt he could have been a more humble and said, it was a very close fight and could have gone either way, and I feel good that I got the Victory. And Lenard was smart always used the ring and his foot speed to his advantage, but when DeLaHoya did it, they called in running, Boxing like Politics has many double standards. Respectfully.

I love the feeling from watching other Hearns fights the he thinks it's over at 9:34. And then you have another 40 minutes from these two legends. Spectacular.

Two incredible warriors! I sure miss those days. This guys are both extremely talented professional fighters. One of the best fights I have seen. Both guys are great

Great fight. Agree with those who say Hearns won. Still, what a battle. Leonard's combination in the fifth was incredible.

Hearns was incredibly humble in the post fight interview. That always impresses me almost as much as the fight itself.

Hearns was and is always humble,the complete antithesis of the likes of Hamed,Camacho,Mayweather etc.He broke his hand in the first round against Hagler,never brought it up as an excuse,in order not to try to diminish Hagler’s victory.Was and is always a class act.

Back in the day, these fighters gave up their lives to give the fans amazing fights. No matter who wins, 12-15 rounds is pure hell on earth for any man. If you take the time to look in their faces at the final round, you can see the life leaving their body as the step up to keep fighting and to win. INCREDIBLE. Hearns won this fight and I love Sugar Ray.

Im from Detroit & was a huge Hearns fan, actually saw him in somewhat of a dive bar in a suburb of Detroit about 6 wks ago. He was eating lunch as I was, got a fist bump from him, made my life !

Funny, I’m from PGC Maryland and met Ray a bunch of times coming up boxing in the area. But I modeled my style after Hearns because I’m tall and lean for my weight class. I got to meet Hearns at a tournament one time and he was pure class. They don’t make them like they use to.

Both are great. Hearns is so humble and Leonard is an all around great guy. It was awesome to see this fight again.

This is why there is an argument KZread should be made a utility for the public. This is history. On record for ever.

A draw isn't too far fetched. I scored it 112-112 even crazy enough. Many of the middle to late arounds were swing rounds in my honest opinion and Leonard fought his ass off in the 12th & final round. 2 Legends that will never be replicated... Bravo!

Hearns gets two 10-8 rounds in the 3rd and the 11th rounds for the knockdowns. The two big rounds Leonard had in the 5th and the 12th were devoid of knockdowns and he didn't dominate enough to get 10-8 rounds in either instance. That being the case, Leonard needs to win that fight eight rounds to four in order to get a 112-112 draw. There's no way in hell Ray won eight rounds of that fight. Leonard admitted he lost and that says it all. The decision was only proof of his star power, which was something that Ali benefitted from late in his career.

I am a huge Tommy fan, and was stationed at Nellis AFB I had the day of April 14th off and walked thru Caesars Palace and went to the arena and sat there alone. I brought a silver dollar and said some huge prayers to God to protect Tommy and no matter what do not let him get knocked down. After my prayers I slid that dollar under the ring post. The next day i went to the fight with a close friend from the service at Nellis AFB. And no shit Tommy got rocked where I left that dollar and he didnot go down. Just saying this is part of history, the things that happened before a huge fight in boxing history. !!!!!

Almost 20 24 and I'm still watching this here we had some great fighters back then at that time man real good boxing and I'm still watch some of this old stuff at the both men were tired but that's real box you both.

Hearns showed tremendous heart. All respect to him. Deserved the victory. Good for him. Hats off to you too Ray. This was not a draw …..

If you witnessed this era and watched these warriors fight then you are truly blessed

i watched this fight the first time round and so many many years on it still gets me on edge Brilliant

Just wow. This sport is amazing. The way these two have battled has everything an awesome movie with a climax and perfect twists would have. Amped to hit the gym next week!

Marvelous Marvin Hagler's commentary during the fight kept cracking me the hell up! 🤣🤣 He couldn't hide his legendary disdain for Sugar Ray Leonard. While the other commentators tried to be as objective as possible, the Champ couldn't help himself with funny jabs at Leonard. It was as if when Hearns wasn't doing enough, he wanted to jump in there, borrow Hearn's gloves, and finish the job. Lmao! Continue to Rest in Power Champ!

Hearns does not gripe to this day at the decision because as he says, at least he didn’t lose.. A true measure of the man in the reality of the day. With the officials as bad as they were, he was probably right to remain silent this has been his stance ever since the fight. Tommy Hearns like Marvin Hagler says he needs to keep punching!! Ray Leonard was a good fighter great fighter but this fight he was the All-American boy from the Olympics gold medalist commercial flashy had the Speed pumped up the crowd manipulated the judges and this fight after they called it a draw the crowd was yelling b******* b*******!! Just like the great Marvin Hagler metal way Ray Leonard had his Corner let him know the last 30 seconds so you come out flash seats is still around get the crowd pumped up punches weren't hurting Marvin Hagler this is flashing us mother manipulated the judges and he stole that one too I'm the great Marvin Hagler!!!

As a kid, Leonard was my favorite fighter growing up in the 80's and 90's. As an adult, I like Hearns and Duran more.

Wow, I missed this one! They took that one from Tommy. That's one they should've definitely have him. Both showed great sportsmanship.

These are two warriors going at it much respect for both of these guys both of these both of these men's are the best fighters I ever seen

I came up boxing in the area where Ray Leonard’s gym is, and I’ve met him a bunch of times. But I’m pretty tall and lean for my weight class so I modeled a lot of my style on Tommy Hearns. I had a conversation with Ray one time about watching tape on the greats and taking everything I could from their matches. He asked me which fighter I thought my style was most like and I told him that it was Tommy. He said that I picked a great fighter to emulate and told me not to forget about Tommy’s most important attribute which he considered to be his heart and determination. Seeing them together on Mike Tyson’s podcast was awesome for me, I have the upmost respect for both of these great champions (and for Iron Mike as well, obviously).

Haggler, Hearns, Leonard and Duran defined one of the toughest eras in boxing.

What a humble guy Hearns was. A complete killer but a totally humble guy

Yeah, the first knockdown wasn't much since Leonard was already badly off-balance from slipping. Also, Leonard really battered Hearns at certain points. At the end, I really couldn't tell who should win.

1:00 so many legends in one frame. Emanuel Stewart, Jacobs, Hearns ,Leonard, Steele and Buffer..

Mr Hearn was always my personal favourite back in those days when the cream of the crop was in my opinion the best days in boxing god bless you all for the excitement and edge of your seat fights ✌️👍

Leonard was seen as a flashy fighter at the time. Looking back he had a granite chin.

Leonard had a great chin, look at the first Hearns fight, and the toe to toe with Hagler. Anyone that says Leonard didn't have a good chin doesn't know the boxing game.

@@garyalu5636 Do you even watch boxing? Leonard was dropped at least 10 times in his career. He ran from Hagler for 12 rounds and was hurt in each of his fights with Hearns. He was knocked out by Camacho. Hagler had a granite chin. Hearns had a glass jaw. And Leonard had a suspect chin.

Hearns won this, but at least the best fought the best back then no fear of losing to anyone, hearns, hagler, Duran and Leonard, what a time for boxing

I watched this live and so many times since. IMO, Hearns should've won this fight in a split. I was watching with a bunch of older boxing men and I remember them all booing when Leonard was declared the winner. - Watching Hagler, Leonard and Hearns in the 80's was such a gift to watch. I was a teen and a little too young to really appreciate the kind of high-level boxing they were doing. Amazing.

I'm so happy to be around to see these fights live the GOLDEN AGE OF BOXING 😎

I think Hearns had every reason to believe he should have been awarded the decision, but he was gallant in accepting the draw. It was a very close fight, but based on the two knockdowns, if I’d have been scoring I’d have given it to Hearns.

@@realalsenor The judges knew who writes their checks. Even if this fight had been dead even for every other round, two knockdowns on one side on top of that decide the fight. You're out of your skull.

I was always a Leonard fan but gotta give the props to Hearns. A great fight.

This is the fight my dad is always talking about. I never knew it was a second fight between these two. These are those old school in the alley boxers.

A definitely under-rated classic!

Having been a champion amateur boxer in the 80s and 90s these guy's wer such an inspiration

two great athletes...I miss them. We will never have these warriors again...peace.

Hearns has had a pretty really impressive career. Even after this fight, he won the WBA Light Heavyweight title so winning titles from Welter to Light Heavy. In almost every era besides his own, he'd probably be #1 pound for pound.

If you knew anything about boxing you would know the 2 times in this fight that Hearns lost a point to the judges officially, they had no choice but to deduct, as a trained judge i know this but i won't bother pointing it out, people don't listen, maybe if you look closer you can work it out yourself??!!!
