@ericandtegan he sounds like he sounded on effigy! You can't understand anything on that album and it was just his style back then. That's a good thing :) His vocals became clearer on the later albums, indeed.

Genre definitions change over time. If you first heard Suffocation in the 80's or early 90's (about '92 for me), and compared it to Death or Obituary, it deserved some kind of subgenre label. (And yes, I know that grindcore developed independently). But since Repulsion in '86, grindcore and death metal were frequently combined.

Frank doesn't actually sound like this live.. Something to do with how cameras record their live performances makes it sound like this but when your actually there he sounds very powerful, deep and even better then on studio recordings. That being said i still think he sounds badass here

Fuck no one sounds like Frank Mullen... at least how he used to sound on the albums. He doesn't sound bad at all on this vid either he sounds amazing but his vocal style is just so great... I actually think Muhammed from Necrophagist sounds kinda similar to him but fuck SUFFOCATION IS THE BEST.

@tj50501 x2 for trying listening to the cd's mate. Frank is easily one of the most coherent metal vocals, and in my opinion the most coherent for death metal. This particular clip just sounds like shit, you can barely hear anything. Check out anything from the latest two albums particularly and you will see he is even easier to understand than Johan Hegg.
