----------------------------------------
New York death metal pioneers SUFFOCATION released their new album ...Of The Dark Light on June 9, 2017 via Nuclear Blast Records.
...Of The Dark Light was produced by SUFFOCATION and tracked at Full Force Studios with longtime engineer Joe Cincotta (OBITUARY). Mixing and mastering was handled by world renowned producer/engineer Zeuss (HATEBREED, ARSIS, SUICIDE SILENCE). Cover artwork was created by Colin Marks (ORIGIN, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, KATAKLYSM).
Comments founding guitarist Terrance Hobbs:
"The moment we have been waiting for is here, our new album ...Of The Dark Light will finally be released through Nuclear Blast on June 9, 2017! Over the last 4 year period SUFFOCATION has taken its time to write this record and we couldn't be prouder. It is our most brutal record yet!
"SUFFOCATION worked through the end of 2016 to hash out and lay down the tracks at Full Force Studios with Joe Cincotta and once again enlisted Zeuss to bring this creation to life! Myself, Frank Mullen, Charles Errigo, Eric Morotti and Derek Boyer have all pushed the limit of what SUFFOCATION is and we hope you enjoy it!
"We also had the honor of having Colin Marks handling our artwork which is a new frontier for us and a different avenue and style to the traditional SUFFOCATION records. We also included some backup vocals from Kevin Muller (THE MERCILESS CONCEPT) which for us makes this album very unique! This will be our 10th studio release and we really hope you like ...Of The Dark Light! Keep the grind alive and hope to see you on the road!"

    These suffocation guys are real musicians. Highly sophisticated rhythm patterns in their musical arrangements, out of this world time changes. Very complicated but yet cleverly put together melodic changes that make musical sense. The songs in an entire album are melodic death metal masterpieces no doubt. I will have the honor to see them live someday in the near future. I play the guitar myself and perhaps it is the reason I am more appreciative of their music, because I know how difficult it is to create music at their level.

    I remember the mid 80' and early 90's sene when bands like D.R.I, Nuclear Assult, Agnostic Front, Naplam Death would play at Fenders Grand Ballroom in long beach, or the country club in reseda, and that just a few bands off the top of my head, and Slayer when they first got started and playing nothing but the club scene, and it was complete Kaos back then... It's good to see bands staying true to their roots, and not letting the record companies dictate what they can write and how they should play their own music, and this is just my own opinion by saying that Metallica basically sold out to those record companies, and stopped playing the really fast cords and drum beats like they use to do when they first got started... If somebody still enjoys listening to new Metallica! that's completely okay with me, but I grew up listing to the real hardcore music that was out there, and when you have been around for as long as I have, you know when bands get soft, or when bands stay true to the hardcore scene, Like Suffocation and Slayer, and I remember when Metallica first came out and was killing it, and then releasing the black album and then falling off after that...

    Things change a lot. What I notice the most today is the phones in the air, but also the security. Stage diving is no longer permitted in most places. It's cool to have a video capture of the gigs, or that nobody gets hurt on the dance floor. But it sure takes away a lot of the madness there was back then. Moreover, Suffocation surely remembers absolutely incredible shows, here, in Montreal, at the beginning of the 90s. There were a ton of bands and a scene. The bars have since closed, the bands... disappeared, like a mirage. Little did people know that many of those disappeared bands would be very successful today. The successes of metalica, megadeth, slayer, suffocation, napalm death and others were not expected. Nobody expected that. This is another reason why the scene fell apart too.

    Regardless of the good ol day's mentality schtick, I have to agree with them to some extent. Another reason the scene isn't as good is because of the incremental social engineering done by the record labels themselves. Songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (even though it's not a metal song) are still anthemic because the saw through the smoke screen of the industry itself. The reality is that the music industry wants to take advantage of the emotions, angst, life situations, etc. of impressionable young people to divide them from normally should be a safe zone and turn them into slaves to corporate media and ultimately the state. They don't just your money, they want your soul, and the bands, like on that Nirvana album cover of Nevermind, are just used as bait to lure them in. That's why the music industry is so bad EVERYWHERE in EVERY GENRE today. It's an incremental cancer that has festered over time.

    Undoubtedly, Death Metal started in the late '80s and early '90s and today's bands are continuing what the originators started. Some may say they're just copying. It has evolved, too, and there's new styles but honestly to me those styles are shit haha. And today's sound production is just... different, too. The older records sound... darker, in my opinion. Some kids today appreciate the older bands but I can understand if it's not from one's generation. People tend to mostly stick to stuff from their own generation. It's a normal thing and I understand that. Things just move on. Change is inevitable. The new generations replace the older ones. :)

  • @Halberstramshaberdashery

    @Halberstramshaberdashery

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@SeverinoSE It has evolved no doubt but I think another reason that the late-late 1980's to early nineties scene was so memorable was because of how much the sound and technicality of the music advanced from say 1988 to 1992/3. For me the album that blew me away the most as a a quantum leap forward in the playing technicality back then was when I heard Death's Human album from 1991, particularly Sean Reinert's drumming. He introduced a ton of creativity and technique on that album. Also one of the major reasons on the death metal drumming side of things is how much the bass drum pedal technology has advanced since then. Drummers can achieve incredible speeds with the direct drive pedals from brands like Axis, Trick and now the more longstanding companies like DW and Pearl have direct drive models. Really expensive but really cutting edge design and manufacturing. Back in the early 1990's the top of the line pedal was the DW5000.

    Yeah, it kinda depends on the genre. Nobody likes death metal where I'm from. My band always gets opening spot if a venue gets us on the lineup and then the metalcore and deathcore bands go next even if their sound isn't as tight as it should be. The core scene seems to get more attention compared to the death metal scene. I guess death metal is too old school aha. Gotta djent with the times and play slow edgy open note breakdowns.

    Pandaweed Xl it can be good and technical but everybody copies each other like mumble rappers and trap rappers. It sucks cuz out here everyone sounds the same and some of the bands have an awful muddy sound. It's easy for most folk to get into I guess. Everyone gets down with their donkey kicks but when my band goes up people just stare. Lol We're starting to bring up our own death metal scene now though so I'm pretty excited for 2018. I like some of the core bands but it does get old since no one is original with it.
