This is a documentary about the legendary Michael Smith of Suffocation. Anthony Lopardo and Ray Marte came together with Mike at Westfall Recording Co. to put together a video to show Mike's performance up close and personal and to get a first hand experience on what its like being a musician in todays industry and what Mike's approach to drumming in and out of the studio.

    Well believe it or not but you can see there is no trigger on the side of his pedal nor on the kick drum. Its hard work and time behind the bored to get those sounds. not so hard to believe when you can see all the mic's and no triggers on a single drum:)

    I don't listen to or play metal anymore...but Suffocation was always inspiration to me since day one, and even though i'm a guitarist [and he's no longer in the band] Mike's energy and spirit always kept me inspired...and watching a few vids of his drum sessions or live shows is always a great past-time IMO.

    I agree with M.S. on his point that Suffo' never really got the backing that most bands have in the past. I'm an oooooold Suffo' fan and always knew it but now I heard Mike say it I know my accusations where tru', they never got the respect they deserved in the past.

    Thanks for playing, Mike! I didn't know that the Suffo dudes had a "dark cloud" of bad studio mixes. I can think of a few albums with bad mixes, but I always thought Souls to Deny and the self-titled have some of my favorite mixes.

    I usually hate metal drumming that uses a ton of double bass, but that's because so many people just play mindlessly fast and it ruins the music. This guy is actually contributing to the music and while I'm not a fan of the genre he is really fun to listen to.
