Be sure the visor is sealed properly. Fill the gaps around the chin straps with cotton, The best help with wind buffeting is a scarf or collar around the bottom ot the helmet to stop the airflow between the should and bottom of helmet. The other mods are to add winglets to the bike! Makes huge improvements and adding vent holes into the lower part of the visor. This adds pressure to rear of the wind screen pushing the turbulent vortices further back...

Great advice about the advantage of a "flip front" helmet. Loose or worn air vents were the cause of a mystery rattling noise in my full face recently so I taped them down. Thanks again.

Modern ventilation makes helmets noisy. I didn't need earplugs in my old AGV from 1978 when I wore a scarf.

I recently bought a LS helmet, which is affordable, comfy, ECE approved, but far from quiet. I thought I might be able to improve the noise attenuation by adding both cotton balls & high density foam pads into the space between the helmet and my ears, however that didn't make much difference unfortunately. The best solution was custom fitted earplugs.

@@JCBigCat Putting sound damping material within the helmet adjacent to my ears didn't make any improvement, but I'm glad I tried it anyway. What worked for me was custom molded earplugs, which are far superior to anything else. Money well spent :)

@@amyk9813 Hi Amy, the best earplugs are the custom molded ones, and luckily where I live in a city of 2 million people, there is only 1 custom molded ear plug guy who does the job fast & affordably. He's also a clay target shooter & motorcycle rider, so he understands people's needs. A lot of his customers are riders & shooters, plus he supplies to industry vertical markets. The audiology clinics just don't seem to understand what motorcycle riders need, because the audiologists have never riding a motorcycle or had any experience with wind noise when wearing a helmet. Luckily, the guy I go to is an outright problem solver. I'm surprised that he doesn't have any direct competitors. But the custom plugs are the way to go. When I'm cruising at 60mph, the wind noise is at an absolute minimum, and I know that my helmet is a noisy one. Anyway, if you can't get a custom fit earplug, you could try a DIY alternative, such as the: Decibullz (www.decibullz.com) The DIY molded are a bit cheaper than a custom fit, however I've never used them so I can't say how effective they are compared to the custom fitted ones. They look similar, so I would be happy to try them if they were the next option after a custom fit. Another alternative are these: earinc.com/product/self-fit-diy-custom-earplugs/ Here's a tip to maximise noise attenuation ... when you're wearing your earplugs, hold your nose, close your mouth and take a deep breath in as if you're trying to pull in your muscles that surround your ears. It's hard to describe but easy to do. This will help seal your earplugs and help to put the 'parking brake' on your ear mechanism. When you arrive at your destination, take out the plugs, hold your nose and breath out, just as if you're trying to equalise the pressure after descending from an altitude (eg when you're on plane that's coming down to land at the airport). Good luck!

I'm having an issue with this helment that when I'm riding faster than 70kph it starts to whistle at the front vent. When I cover it with my hand it stops, so thats definately that area thats problematic. Also, when I crack my visor open, the noise almost disappears. But sometimes I want my visor closed and can't always be riding covering the vent with one hand, obviously. So, how do you suggest to resolve that issue? I ride a naked bike.

A couple of things: first - great content, thanks, and keep making videos. 2: You speak quickly, 25% too quickly. Combined with your accent, which many viewers are NOT used to makes your quick speaking all the more difficult to understand. 3. You’re using a microphone on the camera, not a lavalier mic on your shirt. Your non-existent microphone and the poor acoustics of your room was the VERY FIRST THING I noticed about your video. Instead, use a lavalier mic. - it’s far cheaper than fixing the room you’re in, acoustically.

I have studied this wind noise for years. Now, I suspect the issue still persists due to dummies. Some wind noise will happen since it's natural for the speed to cause the mass of the air to pound the helmet. Lately, having the J-Cruise helmet, I realized that the enclosure of the helmet creates a boxed sound chamber. Not much anyone can do with that design. I'm not in position to experiment with internal design, but, I know that irregular surfaces work in the audio word to dampen resonances. Why not at least try it in motorcycle helmets ? And, I strongly recommend ALL motorcyclist try the SHOEI J-Cruise. It's a motorcycle experience all should at least try.
