Suffering Up for that Sweet Sweet Scottsdale DownHill | Biking East End and Bell Pass
Colin has a special skill for picking rides that require a high level of suffering. I love him for it. The descents are always well worth the sweat equity it takes to reach the top, and I'm always grateful for that sweet Arizona chunk on the way down. Riding East End and Bell Pass requires one to hike-a-bike up Tom's Thumb, past the tourists and into what I would consider Scottsdale Backcountry. If you're watching this video because you too are considering riding this ride, it comes highly recommended - but know I had to keep the hike-a-bike footage down to a minimum to keep the story moving - but it was absolutely brutal. Type 2 fun for sure.

Thanks for posting your long ride. I ride and hike these locally. May I suggest from Desert Park you cut across WIndgate Pass to get to Bell Pass to cut out the hike-a-bike up and down Toms and East End. Also, adding on a left off Gateway on Paradise to Quartz is a fun trail. Then left up Quartz over to down Taliesin and right back to Westworld and on to Gateway TH. Another challenging loop is Westworld (or Horizon Park) - up Taliesin - across Lost Dog Wash - up Sunrise Peak - across Andrew Kinney and Sonoran Lower - Dixie Mine - Prospector - to Bell Pass - to Gateway - Paradise - Quartz - Westworld (or Horizon Park) (26 miles or so). Get a map from any TH for Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve to show these trails and the connections to McDowell Mtn Park.

We still actually Mountain bike in AZ. You have to carry to get some.
