These things usually get confusing when watching a recap, but I would think that the gold probably fell into a sinkhole during the civil war and traveled to 12000 years ago.

I'm pretty sure the implication is that the first version of the "Sky People" were from the American Civil War - given the fact the villagers mention they constantly fought amongst each other. And then they buried the gold that they brought back with them.

Id go to the 1880s or 1920s. You can buy most drugs over the counter and you could build an insane fortune. It would be an amazing time to be alive, for the personal freedom as well.

Modern day skinny people, entering a prehistoric time with wild animals like wolves and saber tigers; Over powering them and making them escape with a small handgun. Those same people used to fighting saber tigers and other giant wild animals to defend themselves, gets overpowered by a guy with a knife. Yup.
What a train wreck. Natalie Zea (who was great in Justified) really needs to pick better projects.

They can either stay or go home by air but. The actual past is better because you have the world reset and 12000 years ago and you can gather all the people and rebuild the whole world and what better that the climate and how the world used to be so nice back then
