I'm a first generation Nigerian-American Physician in the U.S. One of my patients who happened to be Indian asked me where I was from. I answered that I was born in Lagos Nigeria, but that my parents were both from Ogun State (more rural part of Nigeria). She told me about one of her relatives that helped set up one of the first steel mills in Ogun state, he apparently lived there for 30 years. A lot is said about what the West and China did/are doing in Africa, but Indians have contributed immensely as well. We are forever grateful.

@@airsay I would venture to say that 99.9999% of all countries on the planet likely have rural areas (Vatican City likely being the only exception). I merely pointed it out to recognize the fact that the gentleman spent 3 decades of his ONLY life away from his home country and possibly away from the usual comforts of urban life to help people he most likely wasn't directly related to (although I suspect he was handsomely compensated for his efforts). I disagree that acknowledging Nigeria has rural areas like 99.99999% of all countries on the planet denigrates the country in anyway. Have a good night.

In the mid-70s-mid-80s Nigerian government came to India to recruit teachers, accountants, doctors, engineers etc.. to rebuild Nigeria but many left by mid-80s after overthow of Buhari by Babangida. Similar story with Idi Amin's Uganda but that was much worse. After being colonized and subjugated for over 250 years by british and 800+ years by mughal rule before that, Indians know what not to be and what they need to be in a host country - rarely you will see an Indian violent but rather help the local economy to grow while they enrich themselves and the local community. My parents were work8ng in Sokoto for 5 years leaving their kids in India. I have heard awesome stories from my parents and wish to visit Nigeria one day.

Palki, this is my third time correcting you on various issues. In this video, you said Sudan is located in Western Africa, but it is in East Africa. And also, you said the relationship between Sudan and India started in 1856. However, it goes way back to the 12th century. Artifacts in Sudan and Ethiopia suggest that trade between the Indian and Nubian kingdoms of the Sudan civilization occurred via the Red Sea. Sennar, the border between Sudan and Ethiopia, was the hub for Indian businessmen. Some percent of the Sudanese Hamatic population believed that their ancestors came from Indians. The Indians contribution to this part of the world is still a living testimony. Between the 1960s and 1980s, the generation was taught by Indian teachers. They were the most honored after the students' parents. Long live the relationship between Sudan and India.

I am forwarding a wonderful and enlightening comment made by Rajeev Prabhu on the JDs that had my hair standing straight up. Never felt more thankful and happy to have such wonderful people protect us. Please dear people read it and count your blessings that we have our armed forces and wonderful journalists like Palki who bring us such fantastic news. I thought this will complement her informative piece on Sudan. By the way I have his permission to repost his comment. Rajeev Prabhu 1 day ago (edited) As the G20 Meet goes on in Goa, the Indian Defence forces won International acclaim, for its daring lighting operation, in the war torn Sudan. It is said, this Operation almost matched Israel's historical feat, in Uganda... uplifting India to the next...Super Power level! With this action of the Indian team, esp. of the Indian Air Force, the World got to see the rise and tactical capacity of India. Yes! The age of India has begun !! The incident was so shocking and thrilling.... It happened in the lawless, war torn, Sudan, on Saturday April 29, 2023. 121 India citizens were trapped in this ongoing Sudan's ruthless, civil war. Now, the earlier rescue operations of Indians, from Ukraine and Kabul, by Indian Air Force planes and Foreign Office, were done with proper understanding and communication, with their authorities. This was not the case in the Sudan operation. For, first of all, there is no proper governing authority over there. All connectivity with the country is blocked. Sudan's airspace is closed and no aircrafts are allowed to fly or land within its territory. Several citizens of various countries, including those of Islamic Nation, are still stuck there. Our concern was the 121 Indians who were trapped there. Now, rescuing them was a big challenge. Sudan's main airport was dilapidated and well guarded, in case Indians or any other country, tries to land and rescue their people. The rebels had threaten to kill our citizens, if we try to enter their space or interfere in their matters. A perfect hostage situation! So, PM Modi gave full authority to the Indian Air Force and our Foreign Affairs Office. With this backing, the Indian Air Force entered the fray, with enthusiasm, joined by the Indian Intelligence Service and the Ministry of External Affairs. The Indian Intelligence probed Sudan and discovered an unmanned, abandoned airport 50 kms. away from their capital. But it had its problems. The unmanned airstrip had no operator, no guidance to control air traffic, + no electricity, no lights, ...and petrol refueling facility ...!! The risk was high, for both, landing the aeroplane and its take-off. Plus, ofcourse, the armed Sudanese must have been on their alert. Inspite of the numerous problems, the determined Indian forces selected this Airport, ..as there was no other option. A perfect operation plan was designed... As per their plan, the Indian Air Force, first landed their commandos and planes in Saudi - Jeddah, which is nearest to Sudan. From here single refueling flight became possible. The trapped 121 Indians were told, ( in various Indian languages, which the Sudanese could not understand), to gather and hide in the bushes, at night, around the abandoned airport. Which, they did bravely, under the cover of darkness. After that began the feat of the Indian Air Force. The hugh, Hercules, our military trasport aircraft, took off from Jeddah. The plane flew in the dark, with no lights. Though, the Sudanese may have heard it, they could not see it. Must have got confused. But, how did the pilots fly the plane without any ground support? Well, India now has night vision attack equipment, and under satellite guidance the Indian plane flew perfectly well in the dark. In the Swift operation, the pilots landed the plane safely, but they did not switch off the plane's engine. As the plane's door opened the Indian commandos jumped out, fully armed to the teeth, ready to face any attack. The ruthless Sudani rebels could have surrounded the plane, thus the commandos were ready for them. Fortunately, the place was quite far off and the ground was difficult for any vehicle to move at a speed. The plane stayed on the airstrip for just 7 minutes, not giving any time to the rebels to react. The, 121 Indians, hiding in the bushes, ran towards the plane and with the support of the commandos, boarded it. This was an excellent teamwork, and everything happened with lightning speed. They flew, back to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After refueling, the Indians were flown to India..... No country has ever taken such a challenge, except Israel, and perhaps the US.... and India has done it...! While the World is appreciating, our adversaries and enemies are stunned ( and silent) to see India's groundbreaking tactical capabilities...! With this 100% flawless military operation, India, under PM Modi's leadership, has shown the World its tactical capacity. Other than a strong leadership and political will,...advance technology, daring team work, help from friendly Nation, meticulous planning and execution....all have played an important role. Indian Army is showered with praise from all over the world, Modi has gone down in history, like the Israeli Prime Minister. The BJP Government has proved, that the Modi government will go to any extent to protect its people. The details of the pilot and crew chief who accomplished this feat are yet to be released. We will definitely like to know their names...once the awards are announced! A great achievement has been achieved by the Indian Air Force, and it is time for every Indian to raise their chests and salute them with pride. Now, ofcourse, as usual, our luthiyans, smelling their political defeat, will ask " why should we give credit to Modi / the Government ?? " They must understand the importance of a Nationalist, capable Government, headed by a leader, who has the required intelligence and the political will! Consider where we were, during the Congress regime : ...It took two days for the commandos to arrive from Delhi, when Rajiv's assassins were ambushed near Bangalore. It took a day for the commandos to arrive from Delhi, during the 9/11 Mumbai terrorist attack, where more than 230 people were killed on the Indian soil. And, after that, the Sonia- Modi Government continued to remain impotent and did not even react. In contrast, today we see that Indians are being rescued, from a ruthless Islamic, war torn, foreign country, in just 7 minutes - under Modiji. Definitely the ability and political-will of the leadership has made the change, and this event is our historical achievement.

First post and Ms.Palki, I bookmark all your news because you talk truth and facts and I shall always refer to it. And again, it gives me goose bumps when you say that *Indian convoy* was given safe passage, it's not only in Sudan but also in Ukraine.

Su-Dan is a Sanskrit name Good-Donation, once was also known as "The Kingdom of Kush" with the capital "Karma". Lord Ram send his second son Kush in west direction from Singh. You can still find vandalized Shiva Lingums and Nandi statues scattered in The Kingdom of Kush.
