I'm new to this hobby, and have watched many videos. Everyone seems to have a different method - wet, dry, near water, dark, light - and they all apparently work. This is the first video though that has stressed the amount of time needed to get a real plant going and the patience involved. Thank you for that! I believe I'll enjoy the hobby more now with realistic expectations.

Thank you Jessica as this is a timely and very helpful video. I especially liked seeing your 4 month propagation. I was getting a little discouraged as the leaves I have producing pups are still so tiny. Some are as you say just producing roots. It's been 2, 2 1/2 months since I started. I moved my leggy succulents outside & began leaf propagation and last week I beheaded a few. We'll see. They're on a covered outside porch with filtered east & west light. It's been extremely hot here in 80s & 90s with high humidity in western NC. Am a bit more encouraged.

@@reshamishah5204 I'm not an expert myself, but propagating succulents was always successful for me. I watched this video a long time ago, but I think this is a pretty good method to propagate and I do pretty much the same thing. If you want to propagate Echeverias or other succulents that have plump leaves it's very simple. Find some healthy leaves and carefully twist them off right where it meets the stem. Then put those leaves somewhere away from direct sunlight. Wait for a day or two and then lay them down in a small soil pot or plate with soil also away from direct sunlight. Mist them with water once a day to once in three days, depending on how high the temperature is and how humid is the room. After a few weeks the leaves should start to grow roots and maybe even new baby succulent leaves. Then you can transplant the leaves into a pot with soil for succulents. Bury the new roots of that leaf a bit and leave the baby succulent above soil. And that is it! Then I take care of it like a normal succulent and it grows perfectly into an adult plant. Sorry if my made mistakes, English isn't my first language, and hopefully I helped you. I can also explain another medthod that doesn't need soil while propagating if you want. 😊

I hope to do this one day soon. I am so attracted to the little tiniest ones with little leaves and the chubby rosette looking types. I think I’ll go to the nursery and buy one already arranged that has 6 or 7 varieties in one medium pot. Care for them my best and watch them grow until they stretched out maybe ready to to be repotted to make more. I have much more to learn but excited to get started. Omg looking at your little babies that propagated. I’d like to make a super tiny garden with super tiny pups with many varieties. So neat. Thank you 😊 🌳🌱

Hi Jess I have been into cacti and succulents for about 2 years now, the problem that I have is running out of room for them, I have propagated many by off shutes now, but some time ago I watched your previous video on leaf propagation so I thought give it a try and low and behold I have many little babies forming on the leaves now, as you say it takes ages for anything to happen but it is so rewarding when you see the new plants forming. I use my own homemade cactus mix which seems fine. The only worry that I have is when should I separate them from the leaf and repot them. Learning a lot about succulents from your videos making the hobby more interesting so thank a lot Jess Regards Peter from the UK

  • @AngelsGrove

Hey Peter, I'm glad you are having so much fun with them! In terms of removing the leaf and repotting, you should wait until the parent leaf is completely dried up ( as you might have saw in the video, I was not patient and did it early) or you can leave the parent leaf on and it will eventually fall off on its own.

stanese sinziana hi, you can leave it til it gets roots or set it on some soil. Benefits- leaving it with no soil or water prevents rot, putting it on the soil allows roots to grow directly into the soil. Since you are new, I would leave it be til roots form, beginners are likely to overwater and rot their plant

Great video, as usual 😊. I wondering, when you decide that you’re going to remove the leaves from the succulents that are stretching, and taking them from the bottom, can to you then snip the remaining plant (like shortening the “trunk”) and replant it in the soil, having it start fresh being snipped short? I hope that makes sense, lol. Also, I have what I’ve identified as an Echevarius Ruffles, absolutely love this succulent, I have tried leaf propagation sooo many times but the leaf keeps dying before anything can happen 😢. I done my googling and such.....just don’t know where I’m going wrong. Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed! Thanks for your videos...love them all and I’m a repeat watcher too!😁👍🏻

leah walker yes you can do that! I usually do. For ruffles, I have only got it to propagate by leaves once. Cutting it and leaving a few leaves on the bottom stem might be your best bet. I am making a video about this soon but that is what I have found to work for them.

I just looked at the plant identification card that accompanied my plant - I have a Bear's Paw (Cotyledon Tomentosa), not a Panda (unless these fuzzy guys are related?). A newbie mistake on my part. The video is literally titled “everything you need to know” and she said at the beginning of the video it was going to be more in depth because everyone had a bunch of questions on the last one. It only took her 10 minutes to begin showing how you propagate the leaves. This video is tailored towards beginners and is jam packed with information because of that and the video from two years ago. You could’ve literally just skipped the intro and not commented anything. Being mean isn’t going to change anything. And if you lost your patience ten minutes into the video before seeing her how to, I can’t imagine how well your succulent props went 😂
