I'm unsure if that's the future for this creature's revival or if it was just a teaser paying tribute to the sea emperor of the original Subnautica, I would assume the telepathic stuff will be removed for something more flushed out later down the road, I thought it was pretty cool

Personally, my hypothesis is brain size. Think of a human, brain size of small watermelon. Think of leviathan like reaper, much bigger brain, hence more thought, but above a certain size is a near guarantee of telepathy. Sea emperor and the like have very big brain, and have room for area of brain of telepathy. The garg and other very big leviathans might not know how to use it. There is now 3 (2 uncanonical) instances of telepathy, and all of them are big leviathans. Hence, big brain.

I can see the Frozen Leviathan being an amphibian of some sort, able to live on land but also being able to navigate the ocean. If they introduce a swimming animation (thinking similar to how Godzilla swims) and better walking animation where the body adapts to whatever environment it's on, it'll be top tier.

It's base shape is very similar to a salamander; broad head, stubby legs, and long body that tapers into the tail. I want to say the inspiration may have been a hellbender salamander.

I can imagine the reactions compilations videos when it says that I think most of the reactions will be “ wait WHATT” mixed with a bunch of “ oh shit oh shit oh shit “ and “ AHHHHHHHHHHHHHGHGH “ when they finally get a look at the Leviathan

Really wish they'd have done something like this: if you go back to check on the Frozen Leviathan after some period of time, you begin to notice clear cracks on the ice and eventually if you return to the site, you'll find the creature gone. Whether or not the Leviathan would then be encountered on the map as an enemy is up to people to decide which they prefer, but I think it would be cool if it just came out of nowhere to feast on a ice worm that's attacking you. PDA did say it was a land based creature.

There was actually once a planned scene in the game in which Alan’s memories of the past, when the frozen leviathan was still alive, would affect Robin’s perspective allowing her to see visions. When Robin approached the frozen leviathan it would burst out of the ice, roar, and jump over her before the vision ends and she looks back to see it still frozen and dead. At least thats what I remember hearing.

Since The Frozen Leviathan is the oldest leviathan species in the game, but it still has a lot of power to break the ice no matter how young or old they can be.

Well, denying laws of physics is not smart, since if the blood is either a jelly, or ice how the hell would liquid move? And if heart is not beating, again, how it is supposed to move?

The quotes make it seem like the Frozen Leviathan is a living weapon that is trying to reject its purpose. Unlike most stories like that where the living weapon is small and usually (but not exclusively) cute, though, this guy falls into the "They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy" category. I like it.

“Get off my planet” Gargantuan: It’s rude of me to not introduce myself to newcomers. Hello, I am 50x your size.

I really miss the earlier versions of the story in Below Zero. The final version has no driving force to motivate you. Just "she's dead, figure out why whenever you feel like it. Oh, and here's an exposition buddy." In the first game, even though there was never a real time limit it motivated you like there was, and pushed you to advance. This mod has more of that feeling than the entire game. All it would have taken to instill a sense of urgency was a few voice-lines about needing to figure it out before all the evidence gets destroyed or swept under the rug by Alterra, and it would feel entirely different.

@@yes1708 The MC was working for Alterra groundside while her sister was up on a satellite. Everyone else evacuated due to weather conditions threatening the base, but she got separated. Survival with extremely limited support was pushed as a goal at the start and was when ALAN was picked up, then it shifted to Corporate wanting secrets secured once you regained contact as she hid ALAN's existence, then there was a industrial spy involved who you would follow around through audio logs which culminated in an Architect Shield locking down the entire area and destroying a sample-containing rocket you sent up. That's when that build ended, but there was supposed to be more in the final game. There was always something pushing you forward, and a goal you _felt_ was urgent even when there was no real time limit imposed in the game. It recaptured some of the feel of the first game a bit better, but with a bit of a spy-thriller twist.

Do you want to know what I think is honestly terrifying? The way that biology often works, at least on our planet, is that prey creatures have side-mounted eyes, which gives them a larger field of vision, and therefore, a higher chance of seeing a possible predator. On the other hand, predator creatures have their eyes on the front of the skull, which allows them to focus on their prey. That's why a horse doesn't look at someone directly, but sideways. This frozen leviathan has side-mounted eyes, which could mean that there is something else that considers this titanic thing as prey. While this could be true, it's also possible that I'm just reading too far into this, and that they are just for seeing more prey at once. But hey, just a theory.

Not quite, foreward-facing eyes (binocular vision) are used for depth perception, and side facing eyes (monocular vision) give a wider field of view. The reason most predators have forward facing eyes is to be able to aim for their prey, while most prey have side eyes so that they can have a wider field of view to see more enemies. Even the most dangerous aquatic life have side eyes because when enemies can approach you from any direction, you need to be able to see them. The binocular vs monocular vision rule most holds true for birds (think about birds of prey vs your common Robin, most birds of prey have binocular vision) and also fairly true for mammals, but crocodiles, for instance, have side facing eyes. The ocean is a dangerous place, with ice worms drilling through everywhere and possibly other frozen leviathans swimming around, so monocular vision would be a *much* greater advantage than binocular vision. TL;DR it's more complicated than predator vs prey and side eyes are always preferable to front eyes in the ocean

Since my theory about Kharaa is that the Kharaa in the Natural Selection is a weaponized mutation of this one, it would make sense he would say that, because of his telepathic abilities, he knows what Alterra is doing. And he´s not happy about it. He also said "I don´t want or like this. I want to leave. Cure me". That could be that he knows Alterra will make him a weapon. Of course he doesn´t want that!

17:54 first thought, a "foresty" plateau that it ends up flattening & clearing out (to really drive home its no longer a peaceful area) that would be a pretty good justification, with the plateaus connection point blending into probably multiple biomes depending how big they wouldve gone

I would very much welcome this new story. I have unfortunately played Below Zero to death... SPOILER WARNING. Alterra wanted to weaponise the Kharaa bacterium, samples of which they got from the Frolo. Sam tried to stop that, but got herself killed when trying to orchestrate a cave-in. Sam's death drove Robin to come to 4546B, where she met Al-an.

Mutations are also induced to try and turn viruses/bacteria into useful tools such and vaccines, antibiotics and such, penicilin was made from mold if i recall right, Dubnautica is too much of a chill game for Bioweapons plot.

I think it should have camouflage and maybe have textures of something partially see through crawling across the tumdra. Or like it ripping an ice worm out of the ground.

I'm so excited to see how they polish this thing up! When the Frolo sent you away, I thought it was to save you because you saved it...but then it ate you, so I scrapped that thought. Maybe they had plans for you to return with the C4 because it was just a beacon when you found it? Either way, I love it! Also, happy late birthday!

I believe they'll change that, they needed an ending to the beta.

At first I thought it was saving you from demise, but instead It gave you a head start. I'm surprised it knew how to find you, Frolo looks like it has mad cataracts.

If I remember correctly you didn’t need to cure the leviathan in the end. It was an optional thing you could do to finish your sisters last act. I think I’d gotten to the point in the game where I could step through the portal to end it, but had not cured the leviathan.

I genuinely enjoy watching these videos where these devs are adding more creatures to subnautica. Personally my favorite leviathan is the bloop. I hope they’re not done with the first one though. There’s 2-3 more ancient skeletal remains that I wanted to see brought back to life from the original. Where can I download return of the ancients and what specs do I need for my PC to run it?

I quite literally haven't played, nor seen your channel since they announced the Frozen leviathan was technically just a prop. My disappointment was pretty intense.

Seems like that creature, well obviously, is intelligent and clearly territorial. Maybe they sent you on a wild goose chase for the C4 because it was a bit difficult to have a animation done for it breaking out of the ice.

I just can't believe this even though its just an on work type of thing, it's amazing! Best birthday present for an amazing person..I'm very excited to see further expanding for this game or even see a Sub3 which would be amazing, take care anth! Hope U had the best time on Ur b day U deserve it

If they make a Subnautica 3 they should def add a massive leaviathan in that game. We already have a Gargantuan Leviathan which is basically a fossil now and this frozen Leviathan which is probably dead/hibernation state. We want to experience a massive Leviathan official from Underworld entertainment. Mods are not bad but if they add them officially then it would be just so much better. I just wish they add one in the 3rd game if they make one

The protagonist (Not gonna say its Robin since it may not be) is definitely AI, the voice lines have that slight jagged ness but I'm not so sure for the frolo

Eh. I feel like making this Leviathan talk takes away the mystery and ambiguity of its origin and what it was like. Kind of removes that fear of the unknown for me because it was like a glimpse into the planet’s past where creatures were essentially gods of their time, yet it highlighted how deadly and impactful the Bacteria was that it could slay these titans that possibly predated humanity. You have a bit of that still but it’s just diluted a little bit.

Side thoughts: -Some of the cut-but-still-kinda-there areas from Below Zero could be worked on to give a place for the Frozen Leviathan to do cinematics with (given the map vs. creature size, I feel like that using the body to do cinematics that could kill you would be better than a full-on creature). -Could give more background to Sam to make her less of a side note, and have the Frozen Leviathan tear down an abandoned version of the original research base. -Could add in the Dragonfly and Kitewing Skyray....and/or some of the cut plants
