Sublimation on Metal for Beginners

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi everyone, in today’s video I’ll show you how to take this galvanized metal hanging mason jar that I purchased from the Dollar Tree, and turn it into a one-of-a kind home décor item.
I’ll be using sublimation for the project and will share my technique for creating a software template that makes alignment and designing for this shape super easy and accurate.

    I came to this video only to learn what temperature and time to use to sublimate on a metal license plate. What a great video, well done, very thorough, no BS. I watched the whole thing and learned a lot. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it. 😊

    @@PoppyHillDesigns I will most definitely share your videos. I wish there were more videos like this. I don’t think I have ever seen one and I have really needed it. I do sublimation, htv, rhinestones, designing, etc, but being able to get those measurements will make the project look better and go faster. You should keep at this as time allows! I get it. I have a farm that takes my time. I Have to grab my time when I can.

    Really great and thorough tutorial. Quick question: Will the laminate peel off on the edges over time and/or is this only for items that are not touched? In other words, if it's something that someone might handle or touch on a regular basis would it wear off on the edges like say a metal ornament or a smaller cut out metal shape for a sublimated lapel pin?

  • @PoppyHillDesigns

    @PoppyHillDesigns

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's a great question. I have done several projects using this method and haven't had issues with the laminate peeling up, however, these are things I don't handle often. I did several metal tag ornaments last year and when I unwrapped them for this years Christmas decorations they looked great, no peeling. As for the items you are considering I can't really say as I have no experience with them. I would be very interested to hear your finding with the lapel pin.

    @@PoppyHillDesigns Thanks for your feedback! I am planning on sublimating some of my designs onto some metal like you did with laminate sheets and I also have the Dye Press Poly Coat as well. I will def let you know my results! I need to do some experimenting with subbing onto diff gauges of metal as well as cutting methods like with tin snips and if necessary using a jewelers fret saw.

  • @PoppyHillDesigns

    @PoppyHillDesigns

    I don't think so. The heat press needs to press the image firmly to the top, and wouldn't be able to press the sides.

    Yes, I use Rust-oleum High Heat White spray paint, costs around $5.00 a can. I did another video using metal tags with different topping that may be of help to you, here's the link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWmCk7SOp6m9d7A.html

    Do you know if this would work with infusible ink? I saw a video explaining how to use infusible ink by painting a poly? something on it then applying the infusible ink. I can't find the video anywhere. Just wondering if the laminate would work the same way.

  • @PoppyHillDesigns

    I haven't used infusible ink so I don't know if it would work or not. Maybe ask on one of the Cricut groups, they might have the answer or point you in the right direction to find it.

    Thank you for this video. I purchased this exact item from our local Dollar Tree yesterday, so I decided to try this same method. I followed your video exactly, but mine did not transfer. Laminating pouch matte side down, preheated, placed sublimation printed image face down and pressed for 60 seconds on 400 degrees with firm pressure. My image did not transfer. Is it possible the colors of the design image I chose are too light?

  • @PoppyHillDesigns

    @PoppyHillDesigns

    10 ай бұрын

    Muted colors will come out light, but you should still be able to see them. Did you use the Scotch thermal pouches? If not it could be that the brand you are using does not have the qualities necessary for the sublimation process to work.

    I use the 3M brand, they are not sticky and have had really good results from it. Make sure you are placing the rough side of the sheet against the metal and apply heavy pressure.
