Sublimating on a Dollar Tree Glass Cutting Board (Vinyl Method)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I show you how I sublimated on vinyl on the backside of this Dollar Tree glass cutting board. It was very easy, with the hardest part being setting the vinyl on the cutting board. I tried to be detailed as to what I was doing, including temperature and length of time when using the heat press, but if you have any questions or even suggestions, please let me know. Thank you so much for supporting my channel:)

Heat Press (15 x 15) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08...
Oracal 651 Vinyl www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...
Koala Sublimation Paper (this one has 120 sheets versus the 100 sheets in the package I ordered - and it's barely more than what I bought) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08...

    Instead of removing all the paper on the back, I have used self sticking cork. It covers all that up and looks finished.

    That's a great way to handle it! I recently bought some of that cork in the The Dollar Tree Store. It was the first time I had seen it there. Since this video, I bought some TexPrint R sublimation paper and it peels off. It is expensive, so I only use it for cutting boards. Your way works just as well, though! Thank you so much for sharing the idea!

    I know this video is older but I enjoy your style and teaching. You may or may not see this question but I think you will have the best answer as you have obviously used DT glass cutting boards a while ago. I’m wondering if you found that the ones you used 651 to sublimate on have faded quickly. I want to make them for a small club as raffle items but don’t want to find out they fade quickly. Hoping to hear from you.

    Thank you so much! Over time, the ink has migrated some, resulting in a somewhat blurry effect. It didn’t happen quickly but it seems like someone told me once that their’s got blurry in a couple of months.

    Thank you Ms. Marilyn! I couldn't get my vinyl to adhere flatly on the smooth side... it's like lifting gorilla glued mess, so I'm trying this on the textured side. Much easier. Letting it cool now and will use the water bath method for releasing the image.

    I hope it works out well for you. What brand of sublimation paper are you using? I have seen that TextPrint R supposedly doesn't stick and you can peel it off after the vinyl cools, so I ordered some off of Amazon and it arrived. If that is true, then I won't have to use the water bath. I will test it soon. Also, I ended up buying some liquid that helps you get all your bubbles out. Thanks!

    get a spray bottle and put a drop of Dawn dishwashing liquid in it. cut a round or square piece of vinyl in your cutting machine 7.75 X 7.75 spray down smooth side and get wet. put vinyl on wet glass, you will notice it's moveable now. when you have it positioned correctly, use your squeegee on a towel to smooth vinyl , use towel to dry. I sublimate for 170 seconds at 350 then open press and look, then sublimate another 170 secs at 350 and let cool completely. Don't try to peel paper off, put glass and paper in a sink of water and let soak for atleast 30 mins, paper will peel off easily. I have made hundreds of these using this method and have messed up very few.

  • @MakingwithMarilyn

    @MakingwithMarilyn

    2 жыл бұрын

    I am sorry to hear that! Is your vinyl on the bottom of the cutting board so that the heat of the press platen is not touching it? In other words, the layering is (from bottom to top) blowout paper, sublimation paper, vinyl, glass cutting board, blowout paper on top (may not be necessary), then heat platen?

    I find that sublimation paper works better for me, but some people sublimate using regular printer paper. I do not. know, but I suspect regular printer paper might stick a bit more but you could wipe that off with water and a rag. Sublimation ink is required though for this project.
