I had to remove my LCA yesterday and I watched this video before doing it just in case, I slid in my 3 feet pry bar thinking it'll be hell since its seen salt for the last 7 years, then... it just came out with almost no force, no pop no grind pleasantly surprised. Now hope I can get the joint out with a few hammer blows.

I was worried about breaking a bolt, so I went to my mechanic for this one. Took a lot of torching to get the pinch bolts out. My car spent about 94k miles (12 years) of it's life in an inlet in New York. So the bolts are all very Rusty. Luckily the body is very rust free. Just a good bit of surface rust that I've been brushing at whenever in under the car. And I undercoated it for this winter.

Hey, those extra hands let you keep your control arm torqued in. I had to pull the ball joints from chinese aluminum control arm, oversized, wrong pinch point, and pushed in with a air hammer 😅. I had the $20 harbor freight ball joint tool for the boss link. The ball joint shot to the other side of the garage. Great video... I need to go back and put that washer under the castle nut. The joint runs loose without it.

@@TheMechanicj I do charge more for heavy rust, especially if it impedes normal repair. I.e. broken fasteners, having to drill, tap, replace, modify, etc to complete a repair. Flat rate doesn't accommodate for those things. 2010 Outback front wheel bearing pays 0.8hrs. That's for a normal, rust free car. If the hub bearing assembly is seized into the spindle, and the axle is seized into the hub assembly, there's no way you're replacing it in 0.8hrs.

Where I live there is so much rust that we forget about the cotter pin, put the impact on it and shear the pin off and if you want to reuse that ball joint we just drill out the pin and get back to work

No rust makes this almost look enjoyable. Rust makes this an ordeal.....at least for me. I could have filmed this for days. 100 % Chance the pinch bolt breaks, guaranteed the link ends require dremmeling off and the ball joint itself requires Hercules in chains. And I live in Maryland, god help those in Ohio, pa and ny that receive lake snow.

Heat it up, zip it out. Anytime you see lots of rust on a pinch bolt dont even mess around with it. Just grab the torches, you'll break a lot less bolt when their rusted if you heat em up first.
