Greetings from Canada. I must say Your video gets a top grade of A+ for Great Value. And You my friend Get a very Heartfelt Thank you. I love your way of thinking and I must say You are a Genius!. The way you came up with making the tool out of simple resources says to me You are a very Creative and are of good Intelligence. You gave me the inspiration to create the C clip that is needed on the crank to aid the belt on. Instead of a C clamp - I used a piece of Aluminum from a Sewer hose Ramp that folds up like a accordion which is made by Camco. With a small bit of Fabricating and cutting to size It WORKED!!! - I was so thrilled that your idea of a piece of wood was all that was needed to guard the belt on to the A/C pulley. Don't ever stop being creative Cheers My Friend😄

Agree, excellent trick! Found an old C clamp in the bottom of the tool bag, ground it down as instructed and bingo. Did the wood belt guide as well, used alternator bolt, and was amazed at how easy this hack is. Thanks!

Thanks, it worked for me! i used a heavier zip-tie instead of a clamp. parts stores near me rent small belt install tools, but they don't fit Subarus from this era. so i probably spent more than $50 worth of time going to two stores, looking up parts online, etc. I should have tried your trick first. It does look rough on the belt as it works its way around the crank pulley, but looked good once it was on and in all the right grooves. I think it would twist on like that even with the $50 tool though, judging by the vendor videos.

Do you have to remove the spark plugs in order to rotate the crank?

  • @rallycsx

Nope, you can rotate it no problem. You may have trouble with a small ratchet but I have a 1/2 drive long handle ratchet that works good.

I moved away from cars for a while. My Dodge is stored in a shipping container in the same condition as it was in the last video. I got married, had kids and now I'm thinking of getting back into making car videos. It's only been like 8 years :D
