Im on my third forester now, the last one was one of those JDM EJ20G, me and all of its 250hpsprs went into a tree at 100km/h. I walked away without a scratch. I loved that car, it gave its life that I might live. The new one is flasher, not as fast, but it's still a forester, perfect.

One reason I love the Forester is how versatile it is. Like a Swiss Army knife there is no role it can’t play. It may not be perfect for every role but it can be easily tailored to do so.

I’m so glad I have a gen 2 forester. It’s got so much build potential, and it’s still great before it’s been modded.

Subarus are awesome vehicles... especially the Outback. I went through four Subaru station wagons, three of them Outbacks. Good for hauling around the family, the dog, go to the ski resort, go to the beach, general road trips, running errands, etc. The AWD system is amazing, the quality is superb, and they even have good power if you get the 6-cylinder version. We just wanted to move on to something new and we wanted to move out of the station wagon crowd. That said, the Outback works for everyone from the single, young, outdoorsy type to yuppies with kids. Edit: They are also very safe vehicles. They use the horizontal engine, which not only lowers the center of gravity for good handling...it also drops under the car in a frontal collision. Our family knows this all too well. My brother-in-law was saved because of this.

I just bought a 2017 Forester 2.0XT Touring. It is basically a WRX with almost 78ft³ cargo space, 8.7" of ground clearance, & and all the comfort features. I freaking love it & can't wait to upgrade and tune it.

I have a 09 Fozzie. I regret not getting the XT. I lowered it 1.5” and put a RSB. The looks I get from those luxury snobs when I take a turn is priceless. Also driving pass almost every car in the snow storm. Love it! Amen!! Save Evvett!!!!!

Love everything about the my Subaru Forester, except one thing, the CVT transmission. I was told that the CVT transmission on the Forester was not the best but wanted to find out on my own. Unfortunately that is accurate. The transmission jerked a lot when accelerating. My Forester does not even have 100,000 miles and the transmission is gone. I love the Forester AWD performance but I will not be buying anotherone because of the transmission issues.

1st gen is the best forester 2004 taillights look like elf ears

They control really well too, actually pulled the ABS fuse (so no stability control) on my 2015 in a snowey parking lot a couple years ago and still had to really work to get it to loose control. Even then, if I let go of the wheel and gave it a little gas, it would streighten out all on it's own!

Had the 2001 GT (2l turbo) in Australia. Had this ride for 11 years. Best car I have even owned!!!!

My dad bought a 2006 forester ans he has kept it since it has been super reliable and slays offroading it has just has been taken care of and has 150.000 miles !!

Cool to see you helping out a small business. I miss the hobby shop that was like Evett's where I live. Happy Hobbies.

Most of the hobby shops are gone where I live too. I loved hanging out and building cool models, and launching model rockets with my Dad as a kid. It's definitely something that I want to pass onto my son.

Just bought a 2002 Subaru Forester S model back in March and I absolutely love it

I know nobody cares but last week I bought my first Forester 2004 2.5xs, bought it on a pinch cause my daily died on me and needed to haul the family. Was looking for a Rav4/highlander but this one came outta nowhere and and ticked all the boxes on my car bucket list! So happy to have one!

Hell yes. Support local hobby stores. My local one was here for 37 or so years. Moved and came back a year later to drive 45 minutes to closed doors. They truly don’t exist and need to stick around for other generations.

First car was a 00’ Forester that became my first daily right after I learned to drive. Liked it so much that I decided to get an 05’ XT and it is splendid. Even doing hot wheels customs. Mostly dedicated to Subaru✨. It is one darn sweet ride.

Great review. Had a fair few cars but nothing comes close to my Forester 2.0 turbo manual XT, absolutely love it!

Wow a Forester, this gives me hope to hear something about other sleepers. I need one on the Buick Regal. With it's 70's and 80's history, then the badass '03-'04 GSX models from SLP Performance, the small modding scene behind the '97-'04 GS Supercharged model, and then it's come back in recent years. It would make a great addition to the Up to Speed sleeper videos. I need to hear James say "more powa baby" to the modding scene behind the GS, which can almost be doubled from stock.

Had a 2nd gen Forester 5-speed ... think it was a 2006. Bought it out of guilt shortly after I bought my 2007 BMW M5 since after buying that I had to commute more so I needed something practical while the M5 sat home looking pretty. That Forester was one of the most fun around town cars i've ever owned and you're right ... cops never gave it a second glance! Unfortunately she ended up having some issues and was replaced by a used Prius about 2 years later. Look on the dealers face when I traded in a M5 and Prius at the same time made me smile :)

I used to work In a pizza place and the cook owned a modded 2007 forester and i just remember every time he left all I could hear was his turbo spooling elegantly as he sped off into the night. a true chad.

I bought my 04XT 5 years ago and drove it across Australia. When I got over the Nullarbor desert it went in for a service and found out the timing belt was 30,000kms overdue. No sweat. I'm typing this now, sitting pretty in the driver seat and reckon I will keep her going until it's lights out.

One factor that significanlty increased the popularity of Subaru model sales starting in the mid 2000s that I don't think is common knowledge, is that they started an aggressive leasing program. Prior to the mid 2000s, Subaru did not have attractive leasing options, so almost all Subarus that left the dealer were purchases. Combine the lack of attractive lease packages and Subarus slightly above market purchase price with the limited niche customer base, the cars simply didn't move quickly off dealer lots. It was only after subaru started a modern and affordable lease program that they attracted customers outside thier traditional niche market. Once they expanded thier customer base, word of mouth quickly spread how great subaru products were and sales exploded.

I like the gen1/2 forester the most. You can replace the back hatch with a completely different colour (like black) and from the rear, it looks like the car is black, but from all other sides it's (let's say ) red. So it's really easy to blast down roads going 100 meralspers and not get caught.

the bumper and the part under rear light will still be painted red then and it will just look like a mismatched rear hatch :) Edit: The part under the rear light only applies to 1st gen facelift version

I bought my first car 5 days ago and it's a 80,000km 2008 forester xt. Bit rough around the edges (scratched rims and cracked bumpers) but it's amazing
