We just bought a 2019 Crosstrek with the crossbars installed by the dealer. They made a terrible whistling sound any time over 40mph. I was searching the internet for a solution when I happened upon your video and discovered that the dealer had installed them backwards. We flipped them around and the wind noise is gone. Thanks for this helpful video!

I just got a 2021 crosstrek. I have the same problem. Hopefully turning them around will stop the annoying whistling sound

Any suggestion on best way to better secure the cross bars to the vehicle? I'm concerned of someone unscrewing the crossbars to get to bikes locked to the bike rack. Yes, take bikes inside overnight, but if my Sube is parked out of sight while having lunch or walking around town,..... Thanks. Great video.

I have a roof basket attached to my crossbars. When I'm somewhere where I'm worried about someone taking it, I run a cable bike chain through it and lock it to the crosstrek cross members. It doesn't prevent someone from unscrewing the crossbars but the basket is chain to basically the frame of the car and that way it will prevent theft. You could run that cable through your bike and lock it to the cross member frame.

@@Subariblet Thanks! Yeah, that would be simpler than epoxing over the screws.

Would these get in the way of opening moonroof ? I just ordered 2019 crosstrek. Thanks

I am using genuine Subaru crossbars so I would think they would take a moonroof into account. My gut feeling is that they work but don't quote me on that.

hi nice video! btw, do u know what the static weight capacity might be for a crosstrek rails/crossbars? I called subaru america and they don't have that info! I do know my 2018 crosstrek rails have a 150lb dynamic weight capacity. Thx!

My guess is that it would be close to 400-450 pounds. The reason I say that is I have a friend that has a Subaru and he and his wife have one of those roof top tents. He told me that he and his wife have had no problems sleeping up there in the tent, and even had some of their gear in there with them.

HI I have the thule rack and wondered if you have any idea if the factory made crossbars are less noisy? I get a lot of cabin noise and wondered if it's because my roof rack is not the factory installed one. I have thule crossbars and the foot pack. thanks

I don't get a whole lot of cabin noise while just using the Subaru crossbars. However, I now have a cargo basket installed to the crossbars. I have the Rhino Rack X Tray. That's not so bad up to about 50 mph, but when you get up to highway speeds, I get a lot of cabin noise. I swear it's like I strapped a giant waffle to my roof. But, if I don't have it on, and just have the crossbars, I hardly notice any cabin noise. Thule is a top notch premium brand though, so I'm sure it's very durable, but it may be noisier than the factory Subaru ones.

They all make noise. I put mine in the trunk and install them when I need to transport something large.

Not that I'm aware of. There might be an aftermarket type lock, but I personally do not have a lock on mine. I've thought about looking into it though as it wouldn't be difficult for someone to take them off.
