very informative, thanks for making these. I have a model 500 and will be looking at more of these to keep her going. What a terrific machine but everything has its day!

Once you get a little ice in that area it’s all over. It just keeps accumulating until something freezes closed. Great video. Very interesting. Does that heater work on the 700 series also?

No that heater won’t fit in the drain, but we have other remedies.

One last question, you denoted the "Capillary Tube" for older model. What is that? Could you describe it? in the 550 the drain tube is dead center of the back wall. Perhaps you know where the Capillary Tube is in reference to center? Really greatly appreciated the video and help!!

The cap tube is the feeler bulb for the thermostat so it needs to be at least 4” from the braided heater that snakes through the coil

So the drain heater braided wire cannot be closer than 4" from the cap bulb?

With the 550, do you relocate the bulb bracket vecause from factory the bulb bracket is directly behind the tube. Thanks!

There’s also a plate heater the goes on the refrigerator compartment floor to stop ice build up Lon the back of the refrigerator. I believe it connects to the fan motor

Hi. I'm not a tech, but I have a Sub-Zero 550 and ice is forming on the back and bottom behind the crispers. I ordered the 4201290 drain heater and when it arrived I not only realized that one was already installed but I also had one in my parts inventory box. So, I haven't changed out the existing one, because it seems that these parts shouldn't fail. Do you have any other suggestions to stop the ice buildup. The fridge door gasket seems fine to me. Thanks a lot and I love your channel.

You can test the drain heater by pulling it out of the drain tube and holding it in your hand while you press the fan button in, if it’s good it will get warm to the touch. The drain heater is powered by the fan circuit.
