Hi, this is Jia.
I would like to share my favorite Korean recipes with you.
I've been running Korean cooking class and food tour company in Seoul, Korea for the last 10 years.
I wanted to share my secret recipes which are both easy to make and delicious.
I hope you enjoy my video!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bulgogi, Seoul Style
Ingredients
Beef (sirloin, sliced in3mm thick) 450g
Onion 1
Oyster mushroom 40g
Leek or green onion(green part, sliced) 1/2(half)
Salt 1 pinch
Vegetable oil 1 tsp
Marinade 1
Green or Gold kiwi (grated) 1/4
(**Green/Gold Kiwi could be replaced by 1/4 of grated Asian Pear)
Brown sugar 1 tblsp
Marinade 2
Leek or green onion(white part, chopped) 1/2 stalk
Garlic(minced) 3 cloves
Soy sauce 3.5 tblsp
Sesame oil 1 tblsp
Sesame seeds(toasted) 1 tsp
Ground black pepper 1/2 tsp
Directions
1. Cut kiwi in half and peel the skin off. Grate it
2. Mix grated kiwi and brown sugar in a bowl to make marinade 1. Add thinly sliced beef to it and mix well. Set it aside for 10 minutes
3. Slice onion. Chop white part of leek or green onion and slice green part. Shred oyster mushroom
4. Combine marinade 2 ingredients in a bowl and pour it over the beef(which has been marinated in marinade 1). Let it marinade for another 30 minutes(ideal time for marinade is overnight)
5. Heat the pan. Add vegetable oil and stir fry onion and oyster mushroom with one pinch of salt. Plate the vegetables and put them aside
6. In the same pan, add marinated beef and spread the meat using spoon and fork or chopsticks. Cook the meat in medium high heat. When beef is almost cooked add stir fried vegetables to the pan and mix thoroughly
7. Add sliced green part of leek or green onion and mix
8. Serve with green leaves (for example: romaine) and ssamjang

Thank you for your lovely recipe. Have enjoyed your video! I have 2 questions: (1) Can we also use Korean pear for this dish? If so, how much do we use for 450g of beef? (2) Can we use shabu shabu beef? Thanks!

Great video! This recipe tastes the closest to my mother-in-law's bulgogi. I used to watch her make it, but she didn't know the amounts. She just mixed one ingredient after another into the bowl of meat. She didn't use kiwi or pear (just sugar), so I think that is changing the taste slightly from her recipe. Can I adjust the sugar measurement if I omit the fruit? Thank you.

Teri Chong Thanks for the comment! The purpose of using Kiwi or asian pear is to tenderize the meat. Of course you may add more sugar to your taste:) ☺️👍
