One of the most useful tutorials I've seen. Anything you can share to help quickly and efficiently turn hours of video into the 20 min you actually need to share would be greatly appreciated. I regularly get handed a days worth of training video and asked to crush it down to a brief summary for future review by the students.

not in divinci resolve, but people (like me) offer review & indexing & transcript services. Resolve doesn't really have a way to decide what is and isn't important from video content... But pro's and amateurs alike have spare time and will watch and mark specific topic or subjects, or for example they will timestamp every time an instructor asks a question to the students. 6hrs can take me as little as 2hrs if subtitles/captions are already generated to help me speed up the process with visual aides aside from outsourcing (i've hired people to show up, set up cameras and audio, and then basically note how the training progressed and who spoke when and any significant timestamps), and I must say there really is no comparison to being there in person or having someone there just to absorbe the experience and better understand. I guess editing what you've watched happen in real time is just more in tune with how to express that same training on a video for future training. Hollywood uses the timestamp clappers to speed up t heir sorting and scene shots, etc. Obviously you don't do this at a client's events. BUT you may be able to convince them to use a loud clicker to spike the recorded audio (easier to find) when they are beginning a section or things like that. Otherwise you should be charging for every hour of video they make you watch, because time is the only commodity no one can gain more of without outsourcing. Get paid!

There are new ai programs coming out that week actually do what you're suggesting. I can't wait, the premise is promising.
Yes super. Sub Clips, the object of my wet dreams. Finally. Just finished a VBLOG yesterday for a client. That was so much b-roll, I could have used it so much. Also jumping back to the source clip with "Q" -> So great.
I spent 700$ on an intensive 3day DV course. From your several films I acquired 10x more know-how than from the course. Thank you!
We love you Alex, hope you realise what a legnd you are, without your tutorials i would know where to start with Davinci resolve

I came here to learn how to do subclips I left with a wealth of knowledge about not just subclips, but other things I actually need to use in my video editing too
Happy weekend Alex class video as always ....
Great tips as always Alex!
Been learning Resolve for my own channel and this helps me so much! You're my main go-to for Resolve
Great! So much knowledge to speed up editing in such a short episode! I always watch the videos you upload with interest. Cheers and waiting for the next one!

Awesome tips there mate 😊
Thank you for the review and update. Super handy. It may take me the whole life master Davinci resolve (base on my own circumstances) 😊 But I will. Thanks to you tubers like you, Casey Faris, and many others out there that are dedicating time and energy to share with us what you guys have already Martered.
you always give good tips ... thank you ! Now I have a tip for you ( since you are going to be in 'Vegas for NAB) Don't gamble the house wins.... wish I could be there to say hello but.. Work beckons
How many of you think MrAlex is doing amazing helping many DaVinci Resolve end users develop their skills way beyond expert hit the like!!! Thank you so much Alex!!! You are awesome and helped me a lot develop my skills and I am still improving. I have so much respect for you and what you are doing to DaVinci Resolve community 😎🙏🏼🚀 Keep doing what you are doing and will keep supporting you!
very useful tips. saves hours on scrubbing clips
very helpful, thx a lot
I guess this is the best option for what I have always been missing from Davinci which FCPX has. I breeze through my clips in FCPX mark in and out points and hit F and then can just view my favorites and build my timeline off of those clips, I have always wondered why Davinci never did something similar as it saves a ton a time. I guess this kind of could work even though it is slower having to drag files around instead of just hitting a keystroke, Thanks. Now if Davinci would only fix the fcpx xml timecode problems with Sony Cameras, I could really work in Davinci for color grading
THE MOST USEFUL TUTORIAL EVER!!!

Sea of knowledge
Nice tips!
Fantastic tutorial, Alex - i had no idea about "Sub Clips" 🤯 Cheers as always sir 😁🙏🏻
I’d love a video on how to to manage timelines that have multiple video and audio tracks. Things start to get really confusing when I want to start cutting up one video track without it affecting the others above/below it. Keep up the great work - your videos have been a great help 👍🏻
Have fun at NAB - wish I was going also.
A useful variation / add on of these great tips is using the media manager. First thing after importing raw media I do a rough cut of ins and outs on all my clips. I then use the media manager to losslessly copy the used portion of each used clip to a subfolder and relink my rough cut timeline to the new clips. I then delete the clips in the top level folder on my hard drive. I also delete all clips in the media pool that have not been used in the rough cut. This means I have got rid of all the dross and gives me a tidy setup for all subsequent editing. I then if needed create proxies of my rough cuts. Saves a lot of space on the hard drive, makes creating proxies a lot faster and keeps things tidy.

Did davinci never have the ability to create Subclips from Timelines?
Thanks for all the content you share! It really makes the switching easier. I wish they steal the Favorite and Rejected clips workflow from Final Cut. It's so much better and more powerful, since it's way faster compared with create subclips and have to organize everything manually every time. You can have multiple keywords (or bins), option to view favorites (or rejected) only, and Resolve still needs a lot of steps/clicks to do smth simple. But it's nice to see how they're improving the software.

You are the Bob Ross of Davinci Resolve
So helpful.. Do you have a dedicated tutorial on the F shortcuts and how to use them effectively..
Do you know if you can change and adjust the Resolve workspace like you can in Premier?
@MrAlexTech

Not really! You can make some changes but it's not as flexible as Premiere pro. You can't detach things or move them around unfortunately.

Is that a secret product picture coming soon 😮 that you holding 😮
Thanks for another great video Alex. Is it possible to pre-color grade clips before we cut them up? For instance, if I have footage that was shot on different cameras that I want to cut together and want it all look the same (color matched). Can I do that before adding to the timeline.?
Спасибо, очень полезно!
it would be fantastic if one could also colour/flag bins. So within Resolve one would have a clear visual reference from the bin to the media to the timeline.
Good tricks, definite will use in my future projects. Also I want to mention we still can't choose between alt and control as hold to zoom/move to side on edit page while fusion allows you, and cut page is neglect because you still can't turn off thumbnails which make it preety much ususeles cause how heavy it gets for cpu after too many clips. Do you think they will ever fix that?
Hey Alex, those are really good tips and you as always, " The Best". Alex, the same way that we could change the clips color, there's a way that we could change the bins color, to can put green clips into the green bins, could you please explain that, thanks.
Nice tips as usual :) Apart of one thing that I don't understand - the purpose of subclips and how they can be helpful.
@MasterboxProduction

I'm wondering too what the purpose of subclips. I imagine it's just a way to have a media bin more organized ?
Anyway of making those sublcips without having to click and rename and save? Seems like a time consuming process if you are trying to quickly go through a lot of clips.. I would like to use it for saving my favorite parts of many clips and then throw them in a bin to use to build my timeline of my favorite sub clips... Kind of like FCPX's Marking as Favorites which is just hitting the F key. Thanks
Hi there, Thanks for another great video, can you please make tutorial on movie poster in davinci resolve studio version!!! Thanks in advance
😇 Hi there! I have a question: How can I add a color outline to an existing ellipse circle cropped video clip that I have in the corner of another clip? Is there an easy way to do this? I feel like there is and this is a case of Occam's Razor, but I am missing it and every other explanation starts before the circle is even made or happens through several steps in the fusion page which is not my area of expertise. I generally do most things through the edit page with the inspector. Can you help?
With the shortcuts for Ins and Outs, one issue that I keep having is adding clips to a timeline where I locked Audio 1 and Video 1. The selection won't get added to the timeline. Do you know how to overcome this problem or do I have to resort to manually placing the selection?
Hello Sir, would like to know how to apply a color grading I have save before and a blur in an area of the video at the same time? apparently you cannot blur an area and give a better color to the whole video, they both apply to the same area, the blur area its the only one having better color, how to fix this?
Hi mate, how change project setting from arri to blackmagic!!
What's the difference between this subclip method and doing 'Convert In and Out to Duration Marker'. Is the latter another way to turn a longer clip into lots of mini 'subclips'? A video on this would be super useful :)
Off topic question mate but could you do a vid explaining what the numbers mean that are generated for clips that are colour graded and why some are red and others are blue? Cheers pal
Does anyone know how to export individual clips while keeping the SUBCLIP file name in tact? I’ve tried every combination under File in the export page with individual clips selected and davinci renames them. Any help would be soooo appreciated! Thanks!!
Does creating sub clips only work in the studio version? I do not have the option to create a sub clip in the free version. 😥
It will soon be as good as FCPX for logging.
create subclip is greyed out for me HMMMMM wonder how I can change that. thanks mate!
Why cant we drag and drop folders to Timeline, So Annoying. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi Alex, thanks for the video! Is there an option to automatically enlarge the video after I rotate it on 0,5 degree? It’s so time consuming and I can’t find the solution rather than do it manually

Same 😅 when I record with my phone it sometimes keeps it vertical and having to rotate 90° and zoom takes a lot of time. I did learn to do it ones and just copy paste the clip attributes to the others 💡
Newbie coming from FCP. How can I set several In and Out Points on - say - an interview clip, without having to create subclips each time, let alone naming them
Q just takes me to the start of the timeline...
I can't believe I didn't know about subclips. A couple hundred hours of my life I would like to reclaim.
Davinci always crashes while rendering 4k footage. I am using gtx 1650 please help if there’s alternative way to deal with it. Premiere pro seems to render 4k easily. But I really wanna switch to davinci. 😢
I won't be there so I'll just say hello here.
I wish you didn't need to confirm creation of Subclip each time and set it somewhere in the settings
Next job: Colour Correction BEFORE adding to time-line. I find multi-cam colour correction difficult because of this. I came over recently from Premiere and this is the last job for me to work out..
@markkukeskioja
Жыл бұрын
You can easily color correct at any point, before or after adding clips to a timeline. Flag each camera's footage with a specific colored flag in the media pool. The flags will automatically link to any clips you've already placed on your timeline. Then open the multicam in timeline and in the color page filter by flag color from the top right. By disabling tracks you can control which clip you see. Then just group each camera into it's own group and do your correction. Ez
