One of the most useful tutorials I've seen. Anything you can share to help quickly and efficiently turn hours of video into the 20 min you actually need to share would be greatly appreciated. I regularly get handed a days worth of training video and asked to crush it down to a brief summary for future review by the students.

not in divinci resolve, but people (like me) offer review & indexing & transcript services. Resolve doesn't really have a way to decide what is and isn't important from video content... But pro's and amateurs alike have spare time and will watch and mark specific topic or subjects, or for example they will timestamp every time an instructor asks a question to the students. 6hrs can take me as little as 2hrs if subtitles/captions are already generated to help me speed up the process with visual aides aside from outsourcing (i've hired people to show up, set up cameras and audio, and then basically note how the training progressed and who spoke when and any significant timestamps), and I must say there really is no comparison to being there in person or having someone there just to absorbe the experience and better understand. I guess editing what you've watched happen in real time is just more in tune with how to express that same training on a video for future training. Hollywood uses the timestamp clappers to speed up t heir sorting and scene shots, etc. Obviously you don't do this at a client's events. BUT you may be able to convince them to use a loud clicker to spike the recorded audio (easier to find) when they are beginning a section or things like that. Otherwise you should be charging for every hour of video they make you watch, because time is the only commodity no one can gain more of without outsourcing. Get paid!

I guess this is the best option for what I have always been missing from Davinci which FCPX has. I breeze through my clips in FCPX mark in and out points and hit F and then can just view my favorites and build my timeline off of those clips, I have always wondered why Davinci never did something similar as it saves a ton a time. I guess this kind of could work even though it is slower having to drag files around instead of just hitting a keystroke, Thanks. Now if Davinci would only fix the fcpx xml timecode problems with Sony Cameras, I could really work in Davinci for color grading

A useful variation / add on of these great tips is using the media manager. First thing after importing raw media I do a rough cut of ins and outs on all my clips. I then use the media manager to losslessly copy the used portion of each used clip to a subfolder and relink my rough cut timeline to the new clips. I then delete the clips in the top level folder on my hard drive. I also delete all clips in the media pool that have not been used in the rough cut. This means I have got rid of all the dross and gives me a tidy setup for all subsequent editing. I then if needed create proxies of my rough cuts. Saves a lot of space on the hard drive, makes creating proxies a lot faster and keeps things tidy.

  • @diegovalente_

Thanks for all the content you share! It really makes the switching easier. I wish they steal the Favorite and Rejected clips workflow from Final Cut. It's so much better and more powerful, since it's way faster compared with create subclips and have to organize everything manually every time. You can have multiple keywords (or bins), option to view favorites (or rejected) only, and Resolve still needs a lot of steps/clicks to do smth simple. But it's nice to see how they're improving the software.

Good tricks, definite will use in my future projects. Also I want to mention we still can't choose between alt and control as hold to zoom/move to side on edit page while fusion allows you, and cut page is neglect because you still can't turn off thumbnails which make it preety much ususeles cause how heavy it gets for cpu after too many clips. Do you think they will ever fix that?

Anyway of making those sublcips without having to click and rename and save? Seems like a time consuming process if you are trying to quickly go through a lot of clips.. I would like to use it for saving my favorite parts of many clips and then throw them in a bin to use to build my timeline of my favorite sub clips... Kind of like FCPX's Marking as Favorites which is just hitting the F key. Thanks

😇 Hi there! I have a question: How can I add a color outline to an existing ellipse circle cropped video clip that I have in the corner of another clip? Is there an easy way to do this? I feel like there is and this is a case of Occam's Razor, but I am missing it and every other explanation starts before the circle is even made or happens through several steps in the fusion page which is not my area of expertise. I generally do most things through the edit page with the inspector. Can you help?

You can easily color correct at any point, before or after adding clips to a timeline. Flag each camera's footage with a specific colored flag in the media pool. The flags will automatically link to any clips you've already placed on your timeline. Then open the multicam in timeline and in the color page filter by flag color from the top right. By disabling tracks you can control which clip you see. Then just group each camera into it's own group and do your correction. Ez
