I have finally begun to understand the mysteries of SU's! What is great is that Adam really likes them and feels comfortable working with them - most sites malign them. I have 4 to deal with, and my mechanics are working on backfiring issues (73 E-Type). I am referring Adam's videos to them - so all of us will be on the same page when discussing maintenance and repair. The pace for me is perfect - between patient and painstaking - so I have time to appreciate theory and practice. He is to SU's what BABBLE is to languages!

Hey Adam, We are new to SU Carbs. Took apart my first one while you did and stepped through all the things to look for. Great explanations and easy to follow. We now have two SU equipped cars . A 1959 MGA Roadster 1600 twin SU's and a 1958 Morris 1000 948 & single SU. Keep up the good work.

Loved this one. I admire your patience and resourcefulness ! You and I have a lot in common when it comes to amateur restorations. But.. full disclosure... I gave in and bought a vapor hone machine! #vintageairheads.

Great video, as always. By the way, last week I finally got my XJS convertible from 1995. Dark blue with light cream leather, it has only 37000 miles (120% real), and the car was so well cared for that it looks almost like brand new. Everything works perfect including electric stuff. I cannot believe how lucky I was. If one day you come to Barcelona for vacation, please let me know.

Another general polishing compound you may try is cream cleanser, it cleans and polishes chrome, stainless steel, aluminium etc. Also you can use kerosene to do the primary wash and clean of your components and then final clean with carby cleaner. Fantastic video, you achieved great results. keep the video's coming. Aussie.

Take care you don’t build up too much heat buffing the dash pot, it’s very easy to distort and you end up with a sticky piston.

Very nice job, so impressive withou special tools ! Apparently, you need gloves to do this kind of job. I hope we’ll see the carburetor tuning and balance on the xj !

I'm very pleased with the results too! I'm trying to get better at using gloves to save my hands a bit. It's hard to get used to

Some safety tips to add if I may. Having done this process several times I can not stress the importance of gloves and a dust mask. The fine dust can be harmful to your lungs. The sisal buff can be really painful when touched at high speed. I also have used a rope through the dome when buffing, as it is inevitable that one gets too high or too low on the wheel and it gets grabbed. Amazing how far they will fly! I also use a thick blanket to absorb the dome in case it does get launched. My buffer is not mounted directly to a table. As noted this is along and arduous process when done correctly can give amazing results. For touch up in the car I use Mothers metal polish with a microfiber towel.

You should have sanded more consistently, and used 3-4 grits before moving to the rouge. That would have given you a much better result with almost no more time invested.

Hi I have watched Part ! & 2 - Excellent - Have you got a Part 3 Reassemble of SU Carburettors?

I'm restoring a Rover TC , ( better than Jags any day :-)) So anyway the Carbs. I disassembled over winter, rebuild kits done, but I didn't pay attention to the linkage between the two carbs, and I had difficulty with the springs. Put the whole thing back together when I discovered the problem. I'm starting again tomorrow. If you could do a video, that would be cool!

I do have a P6 but a V8 one. Nice car but wouldn’t call it better than a Jag ;) Not sure when I’ll do a carb video again. It depends on which work I have in the workshop

There should be a tag on the carbs with a number that should help. Otherwise check Burlens website. That should help

Hi Adam, if you don't have a power polisher as shown in this video. What would you recommend?

It's like there's a world shortage on cleaner,,,,,,get a half litter of diesel put the carb in it and then clean,,,,you'll get it cleaned much faster..
