Sarah, you are my favorite blogger. Love what you do. I now only buy white sheets, I have the cream tasseled velvet pillow cases like you, they are on my sofa, I put embroidered white napkins folded in triangles across my fireplace mantel,I bought a thrifted rocking chair and painted it black, I am collecting transfer ware when I can find any, I purchase thrifted baskets and I have painted most of them. I don’t have a style yet, and not brave enough to sew curtains, but you certainly inspire me to try new things. Thank you.

Curtains are the easiest thing ever. Can even be made with bed sheets. Use the wide top hem as the bottom hem on the curtain. Make a rod pocket of whatever length on the other end. Unless it’s directional print. Just as easy to make from scratch.

Regardless, the chandelier is beautiful and I like those unusual corner (and vignette) settings. Nice basket, pretty weave. I liked the wall paper as a contrast or mix with your painted/stenciled pattern. I have a smaller 3-paneled (Holiday decoration screen) that is ornate, bejeweled with bits of colored mirror, and textured patterns that is permanently sitting on top of my flat topped French entertainment armoire. So if you have a buffet or a space big enough, you could put your screen on top with an arrangement of decor/vignette.

My heart dropped when I heard you say you bought the Asian hand-painted screen for 6 dollars! I sold these in my aunts shop in Carmel back in the ‘70’s for $300-750 and up…how things change and trends come and go. These screens were meant to be hung either flat or slightly folded as you like on the wall or standing on a tabletop. Thus the front/back fold feature. And the paper backing was an Asian generic print. Yours looks to be in pristine condition with no tears or gouges in the paper. Love your channel❤️

  • @leslien1960

Yes, the "screens" are actually Japanese wall hangings and are meant to hang flat. My mom had one large one in the dining room when we were growing up-- One of the treasured pieces shipped from Japan. They traditionally were expensive, not mass produced, and Japanese families passed them down to their children, so you got yourself a deal!

I really hate plate hangers for walls. I had collected some plates and found the cheap medal/spring hangers to just not be for me. Here’s what I did and it works perfectly. I squeezed a dollop of bathtub chalk at the rim area, on back of plate, then press into the caulk a medal pop can ring. The rings have that tiny hole so make sure the chalk oozes into that hole. The big hole then loops over your wall nail. Mine have hung for years and NEVER have come loose. If you ever want to remove it, a razor blade would cut the chalk right off. ***Let caulk cure a couple of days, before hanging.

The Japanese screen is a phenomonal buy. It is called byobu in Japanese. Japanese do put effort on finishing things nicely. I have used the back of mine for Zoom calls, conference calls and it worked like a charm. I added a very large plant to the back/behind and it provides a bit of depth too. FYI, there are brackets that slide onto them so you can hang them on the wall.

You were right, your Scarborough and company jar was made in the eighties by Crabtree and Evelyn, the mother company so popular in England but in fact started in the States. Scarborough and Company was acquired by Crabtree and Evelyn at some point and they had a collection of scents that included this and my favorite Nantucket Briar as well as 2 or 3 others. They had scented soaps, perfume, talc and potpourri. The potpourri came in these containers. Mid to late 1980’s it was Scarborough. I don’t remember at what point Nantucket Briar scent went to Crabtree and Evelyn but not all the scents were continued in the switch. Nantucket Briar was discontinued a few years ago. I still haven’t found a new scent I like as well. 😢

Just wanted to make another suggestion for standing plates up without a channel: I like either the clear acrylic easels or cushiony grip shelf liner (or maybe it's actually for keeping your rugs in place on the floor). I cut a small rectangle out and place it where I want the plate to go and it sticks remarkably well with no residue or cleanup afterwards. I do this a lot when decorating my baker's rack for the different seasons or holidays.

I was also going to say - you could always glue down a long dowel onto the base of that shelf the distance from the back wall of the shelf, and that will keep the standing too

If you are still on the hunt for the wallpaper, why not try a different pattern that would coordinate with the stripe? Perhaps a floral or geometric pattern in the same color tones. Start the new pattern in the corner on the wall with the window, and it will look intentional.

By the way.... With regard to the Laura Ashley wallpaper.... Laura Ashley the company closed recently hee in the UK unfortunaty but their clothes and home goods were excellent quality and their wallpaper designs were always very classey.. I have always used their products and have never been dissapointed. My most extravagant purchase from them was a tan leather little reading armchair which I got fir £600 in a sale a few years ago and it is so pretty and vety comfortable.

The hinges are called piano hinges. They are used so whatever you install them onto can bend backward or forward. Check out te keyboard cover on an old piano. Thus the name. Sometimes you are not completely sure which way you may fold a project; therefor, piano hinges make for an easy problem solver. They are very strong.
