I'm a beauty consultant at Walgreens and 90% of products don't have printed expiration dates so it makes it harder to know when they expire. The only products that are required to have expiration dates are those with SPF and Salicylic Acid since it's technically a medication used to treat acne.

For the memes, gonna do a checklist as I go. 1. We store the makeup in the bedroom, next to the big mirror. 2. I meticulously clean my brushes, combs, and the like. I used to do it for my mother too. 3. Our household might be somewhat guilty of the expiration date issue. Not as much these days because purchases are more conservative. 4. Never had issues with influencers personally, but I know some stuff in the vanity drawers was picked up because of one guru or another. In summary, I'm an enabler who cleans and upkeeps everyone else's things so they don't have to. What a world.

I also think it’s worth mentioning the different cosmetics hold bacteria differently. A product in an airless pump would have way less bacteria on it than a cream product in an open jar. Same with A lipgloss wand that touches your skin and goes back in the tube versus a lipstick that you can sanitize before use. Something to think about :)

I got a 2/3 score. For things like foundation, Concealer, and Primer I do follow the expiration for those. But for Eyeshadow and blush.... You can take that from my cold dead hands, I spent $20+ on that pallet and I will be buried with it. I do spray it with an anti bacterial spray when I clean my brushes but otherwise its just there.

My psychology professor told me, "You should treat everything that you put in or around your body as medicine," and this was immediately what I thought of. I don't use makeup, practically ever, but when I go out I try to go out and buy small quantities of new stuff, because of this exact thing. When I got my first kit, it was a hand-me-down, and I hated the thought of it, I cleaned it all immediately. My mom and sister thought I was crazy.

See this is a pro for having eczemic and acne prone skin. After having a really bad reaction to adult makeup as a child I decided I just don't want to make myself suffer. The closest thing to a makeup I use as of now is the rose colored lip vasline and tinted sunscreen, but I do on rare occasions use lip tints and lip oils just because I find lip products less sensitizing in general. The rest of what would be my makeup money goes to skincare (avene, vaseline, adapalene, the ordinary, cosrx, etc).

Yeah I was wondering how these things all affected the amount of bacteria that reached the make up… Like I always close the toilet lid before I flush, the make up is kept stored away a closed cupboard away from the sink/toilet/shower, and since I just live with my partner and my clingy cat, I always leave the door half open when I shower (in addition to turning on the fan). I ain’t no expert in bacteria, but I’m sure that some of these behaviours would lessen its reach or quantity, but either way it would probably just be better to keep the make up in a closet

I used to perform in ballet and circus so I went through heaps of stage makeup but when it came to the things that expired quickly (like mascara) I only bought travel/sample sizes so I spent half as much and actually finished the products before they expired. Other things like foundation and grease paints that I went through a ton of, I would buy in full size, and when it came to eyeshadows, contour, highlighters and blushes I would buy as singles from colour pop and abh and keep them in carefully constructed magnetic pallets so I only ever had the colors that I needed/actually used as opposed to needing several small pallets or a giant pro pallet with a bunch of colors I'd basically never touch.

Possible Style Theory Idea: What outfit should you wear to a first date? I heard that wearing Red to a date makes you more romantic, but I want to go further. Should you wear a hat? A watch? What color, should you go monochrome Red, maybe wear a fancy suit instead? Should you wear a rose or floral perfume? Loving the new channel, Im definitely subscribing to this one.

Debunk Corsetry!!! There are a lot of common misconceptions about how it's oppressive, when tight lacing was just a fad for the higher class. And the lower class wore stays that were comfortable and used for working. Also modern fake corsetry is not made for a person, it is not one size fits all. When you got one properly sized for your hips and everything, they were actually very comfortable.

If Style theory sold makeup in amounts where it's actually conceivable to finish it by the expiration date, I would totally buy it. I think the big thing for consumers is they don't know exactly when it's going to expire, so they feel guilty if they have to throw out a ton of makeup because they couldn't plan on the expiration dates. Smaller palettes and portioning for tubes would go a long way.

@@GrizzlyBearable Sometimes, you need to. I never try them on my face, but I will swatch them on the backs of my hands so I can wash it off easily. If you need to color match or test whether a product causes allergic reactions, it's better to use a brand new applicator and test it on a small area of your skin rather than purchase something new and take it home only to realize it caused a reaction. I had my makeup done professionally by Smashbox and they had used a makeup holding spray as a finish. Well, later that day I started developing hives and I knew it had to be the spray because the other products had never caused a reaction before so I ended up having to return it after scrubbing my face in order to remove the spray. If you have an outbreak, it's better if it's a small, quarter sized swab on your hand that can be washed than your entire face.

Your best bet is to swatch the products on your forearm and let them sit for about 10 minutes. That way, you know whether your skin will react or not. If you know your skin is on the sensitive side, you should look into testing mineral based powders, but definitely look at the ingredients. If you can figure out which ingredient is triggering the allergic reaction, you can skim the ingredients list and identify it before even testing it.

I have a possible solution that will probably never happen. Make up companies put less make up in their products so they will be gone by the expiry date as well as coming with a little card that shows how to properly clean your stuff. Now this is the part that probably won’t happen, they make it cheaper as well. Giving how rich they are anyway they lower the prices for lowering the amount.

I think for stuff like that, it's best not to look to the popular brands like claire's and loreal. I know there are some men-focused beauty products who do leave cards that instruct what products to use in specific orders and how to use them, not sure about the expiration dates, though. Moral of the story, do some research, find lesser-known, but smarter cosmetic companies who know what they're doing, and order them online.

That's not how asbestos works. Asbestos is actually perfectly safe if it's just around skin and eyes, and is a heck of a lot less irritating than one of it's common replacements: fiberglass. ( _shudder_ ) The real problem with asbestos is that it gets airborne very easily, and hence can be inhaled into the lungs. The tiny fibers can sit in the lungs for years, decades even, causing just enough damage that cancer can eventually develop. So stop worrying about blindness and get any nasty coughs checked out.

If y’all wear makeup on the daily, my advice is to take note of your daily makeup routine and only buy the stuff that WILL get used - e.g., if you wear pinky brown eyeshadow and liquid liner, then just buy neutral tone palettes and liquid liner - even if that kaleidoscopic palette looks tempting, ask yourself if you’ll really use it or if it’ll just sit on your shelf for two years. Blame Beau Brummell. Look at men’s fashion and how fun it was before the 19th century, it was just as interesting as women’s, versus how it declined regency period onwards. Beau Brummell is a villain. Beau Brummell is my arch nemesis.

This is making me realize something I never realized. I used to do my makeup in the bathroom exclusively growing up, but for the last 3 years I've been doing my makeup in my own room at my desk. I always got pimples doing my makeup in the bathroom, or at least some kind of skin irritation. That frequency has almost completely diminished when it comes to getting ready in my own room. And I never noticed until this video- Welp, I know I'm never going back to getting ready in the bathroom.

I am a fashion illiterate woman who has NEVER used makeup. It has been put on me a total of twice in as many decades. I am SO glad I never got into it. Especially now! 😅 That said, I am super excited for this channel!!

I love this!!! I’ve been watching the Theory Channels for years now! So as someone who has gotten into environmentally-safe ornate fashion, I love that the Theorists are growing with me🥰🥰 I’m so ready to add the channel into my rotation😂. (Also soooo glad I caught this one on Launch day🙂)
