As a retired longhauler and an rv'r...I find it interesting that rv's can tow multiple trailers and not have to have an indorsement. While trucking and even today, a lot of them have no clue of what they're doing 🤦‍♂️

In the early 90s, I towed my 1207 Jayco pop-up camper trailer behind my 37' Fleetwood Class A Motorhome. I had a motorcycle rail attached to the back of the big RV for my motorcycle. The pop-up had a roof rack that I packed my 2-seat kayak and 3 mountain bikes and a tandum bicycle for me and my kids. It was great to have all our toys with us, and the kids slept in the pop-up camper like a guest house. As a single parent, this allowed them to each bring a friend camping with us. It was a lot of work to pack up to go home in.

Star Waggons was started by actor Lyle Waggoner back in 1979 when he was co-starring in the original Wonder Woman TV series. He discovered that the studio was renting the motorhome he was using on set from a local resident. He went out and bought up a bunch of similar RVs and started his own business leasing these to studios. A short time later he formalized the business into Star Waggons and formed another company, Zio Studio Services, to do shorter term rentals. In 2021 his sons sold Star Waggons to Hudson Pacific Properties for $222 million. His sons still run the business for Hudson. Waggoner passed away in 2020. He had been a regular on The Carol Burnett Show from 1967-73 and earlier was a finalist for the role of Batman in the TV series in 1966. He lost out to Adam West.

Apart from the fire engine turducken all the other ones look downright dangerous, too much weight down the back and not enough over the drive, just because you can doesn't mean you should It may be legal in some states and your tow vehicle may be strong enough but give it some sway , maybe a bit of frost or heavy rain on a downhill run and hello spaghetti tangles !

Probably the coolest retro rig I've ever seen, was where someone took a big old Peterbilt cab and chassis, then set a 40 foot 1956 Spartan Imperial Mansion trailer on top... The work was done by a retired Machinist and was executed so flawlessly, no one but an expert historian of Spartan trailers would have known that it was a "make-up". Of course since the trailer's frame say on the frame rails of the Pete chassis, there was plenty of room underneath for holding tanks, a generator and lots of storage. Oh... The coolest part of the build was how the guy set the trailer BACKWARDS on the Peterbilt frame, then fabbed a walk-through from the cab into what was the rear wall of the trailer. This left the huge "front picture window" in the Spartan's living room to remain a panoramic view. I saw that rig in person about thirty years ago... I wish I had the pictures I took... Can't find them ANYWHERE. I'd like to build one for myself.... I think I'd use one of those killer looking International Lonestar cab and chassis.

I remember back in the late 60's there was a guy that lived on Overland hill in West LA that custom built hover cab campers that fit on the back of the big sedans of that era. He'd take the trunk lid off and build them so that the floor would be in the trunk and a full-size bed would be over the roof. I was just a kid of around 9 or 10 at the time. But I always thought those were so cool.

I've got one right up your alley...., and will get a picture of it to you in a day or so. BTW, I also built a camper on a factory built 32' fifth wheel trailer back in the '70's, built it like a house, but still light as possible. When my plans changed and I bought property, I off loaded the tiny home onto some piers, and sold the trailer for what I paid for it, and that was my downpayment on the property!

@@victoryrider Kansas is pretty lax about enforcing motor vehicle laws. I've had an expired 2017 tag on the back of my truck since 2018. It's registered and every year I put the new sticker in the glove box, so far I have never been pulled over or had anyone say anything about it. It's became sort of a game to see how long I can get away with it before someone notices it.

I disagree about covered wagons being an rv. Those people spent the entire summer moving across country. There was nothing recreational about that.
