Boat prices are absurd, I could see some manufacturers start going out of business in the next few years. 4-5 years ago new boats were like 50-60% of what they are now. On top of that, people are selling their used boats for what they paid retail or more with hundreds of hours on the outboard. Phoenix 921 elite was 75k in 2020, now its like 110k with the same options. I'll hang on to my Champion for now.

Pat is is going to be an interesting couple of years in the entire industry, not just in boat sells.

Very valid points. In early 2022, I sold by 2016 BassCat Puma/SHO for $49,000. Purchased it new in 2016 for $60,000. Then purchased a new 2022 BassCat Cougar with better graphs and TM for $82,000, So it all evened out. Also purchased a new 2023 Chevy Silverado LTZ for $6,000 under list in March of this year, 2023.

I think the value-added stuff you talked about may vary according to the geographic area where the boat is listed. For instance, power poles may not be as important in areas with mostly deep water lakes. A trolling motor with spot lock might be the better option for a lot of folks. As an example, I fish a lot with my brother-in-law and he has a single power pole on his boat. In the last 2 years when I was fishing with him we never used the PP, not even once, but the spot lock gets used every single time we go out.

Best deal right now is Seth Fieder’s Ballistic on Bass Boat Central. 23 Ballistic 204 with warranty til 2030. Priced at $62,000. As for buying a new car/suv/truck. Take your time there are deals out there. I recently bought a 23 F150 with $12,000 off and 3.9 intrest. Thanks for doing these videos. I look all the time at boats for sale.

I brought my boat to Carlson’s marine owned by Stephen Johnston two days ago, the mechanic said parts are still hard to get.

I haven’t really seen prices normalize. I’m from Canada but you want a new boat it’s 120k plus 8% interest.

I was privileged to ride in a new Icon and wow what a boat, but, at a base price of $96,000 it has a defect in flotation. Should not be that way in a boat at that price range!

I personally would monetize graph/electronics value buy what you could buy one for used from RMP, or Hennessey or BassFishinElectronics. And on his to add a Lowrance HDS 12 PRO for $1000, that's a steal of a deal!

Ken another thought in used market: Repair: with the technology of motors, electronics etc what is the age cut off for repair shops to be up to date with training, parts , etc Starting to run into that issue- own Z521 w two stroke 250XS - 2006 model ( only owner) , engine was built my the merc racing division thanks

I think that has a lot to do with how guys fish, structure guys that idle a lot are going to put 100 hours+ a year on a boat. My boat I just sold was 30 months old and only had 130 hours, that's around 50 a year, somewhere in that range would see normal to me.

Many guys are trying to recoup the money they spent on the electronics and trolling motors. That rarely used to be the case years ago. You see a lot of price with and without electronics nowadays on used boats.

TFF it makes sense, if it's a few years old the electronics could be 40-50% of the boat value

So It's about $10,000 plus a year to own a new, fully rigged bass boat in the first 2 years. When you sell. How long, value wise, should someone own a new boat? Maximum resale at the lowest cost per year used. I would like your opinion on this also, Ken. It's going to be interesting. Thanks

If you buy a new boat to get a good resale value out of it then you are buying one for the wrong reason. Or even a used boat for that matter.

Good video, I am looking for a new used boat right now as well. What graphs, batteries, accessories, or trolling motor they have added to the boat means very little to me because that stuff can be easily added on or changed later, 10-15K worth of accessories doesn't add 10K of value for me. What does matter the most is that the boat is not underpowered below the max hp rating, the layout and storage on the boat, how good of shape it is in, and how well it was maintained and taken care of.

Interesting, so let’s say a boat A is 1-2 years old and it’s got 4 graphs and FFS, say retail cost for those electronics is $14k. Boat B is identical but with two 9” graphs, cost of $2000 new. To you how much more is boat A worth?

@@KenSmithFishing Depends on the buyer. I would go with B since you could likely get a better deal on it. I like to rig and wire everything myself anyway so buying a boat with a bunch of accessories already rigged on it isn't really appealing to me since I would have to go through it all and make sure it is done right or how I want it. I have seen some really bad rigging jobs done on boats over the years. Also I don't know if you noticed this or not but when buying a boat new the accessories like, graphs, jack plates, power poles and chargers cost more to add on to your boat than they do if you buy them separate.

never buy a used mlf boat either!!! guy in my club bought one from luke C and it has been great, ranger merc 2 stroke-- always buy from a deep water guy, never an "up the river guy"!

I have always tried to keep a boat less than 2 years. I tried to order a new Lynx last August but couldn't get a motor. Now that I have a motor, I can't get a Lynx!!!!

Unless they go back to the 1995 through 2000 prices there are no deals. I was adding up the cost of the trailer and boat and trolling motor and electronics was $24,995 So Electronics and new trolling motors and new 4 stroke motors are $75K I don’t think so... chemicals used to make these boat have not gone up that much. Take 33% off the sticker price off any pickup truck minimum and the dealer gets kick backs the faster they sale a car. Manufacturers also give bonus bucks to make deals. I usually get $10k to $14k off a truck 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn listed $51k I paid $38k bought it new Aug 2020. KEN I HAVE A NEW 2022 RANGER 520R and it runs maybe 25 hrs. This Biden economy is killing me. 15 months old loaded I have never been a Ranger fan boy Charger was always my Pick. The Ranger 520R is the bomb that girl handles the great lakes, St.Lawrence like no bodies business. Fishes the best and to me is the best bass boat I have been in the new era. Hands I would put it up against anything. Two people loaded ass out 70mph on the St.Lawrence enough said it handles the rough.

I always said my Rangers handled big water well, lacked speed but never worried somebody could get somewhere I couldn't. But it's not just boats that went up, houses, car's, crap a gallon of water was $0.95 2 years ago, it's a $1.35 now, so 40% in 2 years

Everything you’re saying is true, but if you don’t have cash, you’re not saving any money because now you’re paying that extra interest versus paying the over sticker cost it’s still about the same

Matt understood, to some degree we are all a little tilted due to the incredibly low interest rates we have enjoyed the last…what, 10+ years? Many young consumers have no idea, I think my first mortgage in 1987 was 9.5% and I thought I was getting a great deal because I had good credit. Actually I remember I financed right at $100k and my mortgage payment was $850 a month…I remember because that scared me so bad!
