This footage was recorded in early November of this year while the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford was engaged in Independent Steaming Exercise 3.

Was the AO shop supervisor on night check for most of our 7 month med-cruise , I liked it better then day check but was far more dangerous for obvious reasons , Those E-2 hawkeye props spinning were def not to be near of course and given lots of room , Sure miss my Navy days its been a minute , VFA-131 Wildcat here AO2 based out of NAS Cecil Field fla 1985/1988 !
My father pioneered night carrier operations during WW ll as a TBM Avenger pilot aboard the USS Enterprise CV(N) 6, December, 1944- May, 1945. At that time the N stood for night, as the Big E was designated as one of only 2 night carriers. He was a member of Night Torpedo Squadron 90 who flew the first night and foul weather low level attack missions from an aircraft carrier.

I remember night ops, sometime it was so dark you could not see your hand if front of your face, and it always seemed louder at night.

Wow! Those electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) completely did away with steam raising from the catapult launches.

I'm a ADC retired in 97.
Miss the huge cones when F 14s went to full afterburner. Super Hornet doesn't even need afterburner for takeoff

That would be FOD. If you got caught doing it, which you surely would, you'd be standing tall in front of the man. I can't even imagine an attachment method that would stay attached.
