They ALL had a meeting with the kid the day he had the gun in his backpack, demanded he get help but then just.... let him go back to class? Parents advocate for their kids. This isn't shocking. But the school 100% failed to protect the other students at that school when they didn't kick the kid out.

    I'm not sure the school had grounds to do anything else unless they had an indication that he posed an immediate danger to himself or others. Did that drawing prove that one way or another? I don't think so. It would have been different if they knew that he had a weapon on him or access to a weapon. This is something the parents should have told the school about in that meeting. In which case the school would have probably acted very differently. I guess it would depend on what the school actually knew. It seems that the parents knew that their child was unstable but were more worried about him not getting into trouble than what harm he might cause to himself or someone else. It's not a good idea to buy someone, especially a kid, with mental health or behavioural problems weapons.

We always taught gun safety when target practicing, one at a time shoots while others watch. We would have several people shooting at the rifle range here. Most of us are Military Veterans . Safety first. Guns go into safes for the most part, Most of my guns rarely leave my safes anymore. One should buy a safe before buying any gun!

    I’m so glad they are holding the parents responsible. What were they thinking buying this kid a gun when they knew that he was depressed?! I’m by no means anti-gun, but kids are not responsible enough and they’re not emotionally mature enough to be given firearms! Parents have been given a free pass in this country up until now. Parents these days don’t want anyone telling them how to raise their kids, so our society relies solely on the parents to make sure their kids can understand rules and consequences and can behave accordingly. It’s long past time that we start holding them 100% responsible for the actions of their children when they don’t. The actions of these parents turned, what could’ve just been, an depressed awkward kid who needed counseling into a killer. The responsibility for the deaths of those victims sits squarely on the shoulders of those parents.

    An Oxford parent whose children knew Ethan wrote this: “Ethan had problems but he also had many friends. He acted no differently that fateful day than he had in all the years that my OHS kids have known him. He gave a friendly fist bump to a fellow student just minutes before he walked into the bathroom and killed his first victim. His fellow classmates and friends had no idea. They talked to him daily.” Then she proceeded to talk about how the school didn’t know who left the bird head in the jar of piss in the bathroom (prosecutor reveals it was Ethan’s doing). Then she says the only people that saw a change in Ethan was his parents and knew of his depressive state.

    Screw them, but your argument is literally against the constitution. There are 2 questions that are required, IMO. 1. Are they a flight risk? 2. Are they a threat to others? I would argue no to both. They withdrew 4 grand to hide out for a few days. What can they reasonably do in America with 4 grand? They clearly don't have the resources to sustain being in jail and are likely already fired/ to be homeless upon release. This is a severe case, but it''s also a terrible aspect of our legal system.

Side note, the fact the DA turned to the news/media before speaking with the police about the arrest shows the lack of professionalism that led to their flee anyway. What new surprise is likely? He was shaken and expressed to me his fear that the suicidal person could have killed him. I told him, the guy was suicidal, not homicidal and literally everyone can kill you daily. If you live in fear, it's a choice. Be cautious, but driving is the single biggest threat daily. At worst, they committed criminal manslaughter, which has to be proven, btw. After being confronted with the drawing, while knowing the events of the prologue, and having knowledge they recently purchased him a firearm lays this squarely on the parents. The school can only straddle the line of public safety and individual rights so long. All the school had to work with was the failure of the parents to disclose the reality. The PARENTS should have taken him home and had him evaluated by medical staff. (Which would be a no-brainer were we to provide each other with universal healthcare.) Perhaps they feared another $12,000 in medical bills and rejected the idea outright? The US has nothing to be proud of. This is where our greed and apologia for preaching "profit, first / people, last", and even worse - codifying it into LAW! All while people sleep on steam grates and tents. @Jody Owen I'm mixed in the KR case. I think a charged, it never should have gone to trial. However, i think he was incorrectly charged. Legally, he was within his right to be there, but he was there as an agitator his actions leading up showed that (but those actions weren't allowed to be used). Regardless, as charged, i would have voted not guilty as well. Also, the Arbery murderers got exactly what they should have. I would argue Roddy was actually the most egregious one as he "angled his truck" at Ahmaud repeatedly. Still, these are jury trials we are discussing. Judge only trials may differ. Idk which is more likely, getting a single competent judge or getting a single open-minded juror.

  • @cameronno6039

    @cameronno6039

    @Jody Owen Arbery's murderers were over charged, but the felony murder charge was correct, as are the ensuing hate crime charges. Felony murder in GA is not the commonly discussed 1/2/3rd degrees. Further, intentionality can be derived instantaneously. They had no reason to do what they did and proved multiple times they were a threat to everyone with their vigilante provocation tactics. They committed felony assault and kidnapping. Regardless of intention, Arbery died. Death in the commission of a felony is the standard for felony murder in GA, regardless of intent. The neighbor was essential to the crime. He admitted multiple times to aiming his truck at Ahmaud and cornering him. If you are interested in the case, watch Legal Eagle discuss it, but also watch the actual trial video and review the written charges as they are written in that state. He was guilty of everything by the letter of the law. Again, I argue Ahmaud would be alive if not for Roddy. The number of charges is wrong though; I agree with that. 1 death shouldn't have 9 charges all with essentially life sentences. Still, they are guilty and one or three alone were sufficient. I also agree about KR as charged. However, he did set the events in place to commit murder. Obviously, he was also attacked at that time, so he got what he wanted in a legal loophole. The question needs to be better defined. When can you be the instigator and claim self-defense? I think that answer is very muddy.

    Technically, he hadn't done anything worthy of disciplinary action yet. If they suspended every student over a drawing, it would cause huge problems. Plus, legally it's not possible. Students have rights as well. I am playing the other side of the coin here, but what exactly had he done that warranted removal? He hadn't hurt another student YET, and a drawing doesn't infringe on the rights of other student's educational process. One of my former students murdered his mother, chopped her head, hands and feet off and dumped her torso off of a remote highway. The student had no friends, no one in my class wanted him in their group work assignments and no one wanted to next to him. But... he was new, we had not received his records yet, saying that I went to the counseling office twice over issues I thought needed attention and he refused to talk to the counselor. Technically, he had done nothing wrong, but he was strange and gave everyone the creeps. You can't remove a student for making the hair on the back of your neck stand up! Legally he had done nothing violating the school's code of conduct! I used to have my students journal everyday in class... sometimes they wrote some pretty dark stuff, sometimes I found out personal things about a student that made me cry but you can not judge a person for something they not yet done. Now, his parents should never have given him a gun, that is true... if they are making the claim he was depressed then they knew there was a problem! I have seen my fair share of bad behavior from students, I was an intervention teacher for part of my career... but none of those kids ever killed anybody. My point is, how do you judge when behavior has yet to happen?

I feel particularly bad for this one kid who lost his dad to alcohol abuse a month before, and then 1 month later, had to witness Ethan gunning down his classmates in the halls and was forced to run for his life. His friend was shot to death. I cannot imagine being that kid and having so many losses in such a short period of time. I worry for his mental health, because he is traumatized by what he saw in the hallway. I really hope that kid has his mom’s support and a good support system overall. I now understand why the prosecutor added the terrorism charge. Those poor kids will never be able to unsee what they witnessed that day.

Teachers and the school faculty who are involved and any that had knowledge of this situation should get neglect, multiple child endangerment charges and not be allowed to work around kids. Kid should receive death penalty same as he gave to the kids. To be carried out within 3 months. That's time to suffer waiting. And not wasting too many tax dollars on him. Really think they should let each parent of each kid murdered or injured or even anyone that had a kid or relative they was worried about in the school spend 30 minutes with him individually with no penalty for whatever they decide to do. And if they didn't take care of him then anyone that wanted to got 30 minutes with him. Same penalty every child killer should face.

    Just like the shooter's mom in Sandy hook, she knew he had emotional baggage, but thought it was a good idea, to buy him a gun!😢😢😢

    Wrong, in Sandy Hook he took a family members gun, he was also 21, six years older than this situation. In this situation he is only 15 and was bought his own handgun by his parents

    What upsets me about all of this is his parents failed him. What he did was wrong and there’s no excuse; however, it could have been prevented if the right steps were taken. Every child deserves a parent but not every parent deserves their kid. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their family. I hope justice will prevail on this earth towards the kid and his parents and they get what they deserve.
