Hello Alex, what a varied selection of finds. I’m envious of the time periods you have finds from. We Americans on the West coast are relegated to hopefully older coins along with some being silver and the much rarer gold one. Beach hunting we still regularly get gold and silver jewelry. My old favorite spots along rivers have been absolutely ruined by the homeless who camp and trash everything up. Of course they don’t lose any silver or gold crack pipes or syringes. I’m relegated to hunting the foothills for the occasional gold nugget or a coin of hopefully silver and the illusive gold one. Thanks for taking us along on your hunt… John

Sounds epic shame about the trash situation but the river I detect along doesn't have a homeless problem but I still pull out tin foil coke cans (vintage) and dozens of old ring pulls but I've found a couple of coins and a buckle nothing mind blowing but still awesome fun.

I laughed when you described the thimble as ‘quite nice’ and ‘lovely’. You sound like me and Roman coins, although I’m not sure I could be as convincingly interested! Love the strap end - there’s nothing missing from it, yours is complete. You can get two types, one more vase shaped (my description, not the proper one)and the type you have which is round. It’s very lovely. Thanks for the big up to the Detecting Hub, we always appreciate it! Great video (as usual) especially as there were no Roman coins! P.S. stop peeing about and buy the controller for the signal sounds - it’ll be cheaper than all the equipment you keep buying. You don’t need to ever look at it (I don’t and I know you won’t want to either) but it’ll save you so much fiddling

Cracking array of finds as ever, Alex. I get what you're saying about the "set square" being a little flimsy for a furniture brace, though maybe it was purely decorative. Being incomplete, we don't know its true original form but I'd be leaning towards its maybe coming off a thumping great book cover. Maybe identifying what the etchings in the finials are might give a pointer, too.

As for thimbles, when one is found with a sappy saying like the one you found, I think about the poor young man who probably saved his money and gave it to his love. And she probably cherished it and wore it with pride and was very sad when she lost it.

Hi Alex, I always have my doubts when the consensus is a furniture fitting. It seems to be the default for ‘Don’t Know’. If it is crudely made it might be Roman or amateur made ? But most periods items were generally very well and accurately made. Metal values were much higher back in the past because there was no mechanised mining so great care was taken during manufacture. I assume the Romans used slaves to mine metals so their metals were relatively less expensive. It would be good to research which periods accepted sub regular artefacts. Not many I suspect. Coins were obviously Sub Regular because they needed to be mass produced at near zero cost and the value was in the base metal. Only in the last 300 years or so has perfect regular shaped coinage been possible due to modern machinery being available. 👍

The ‘Hoop’ at 26:20 on the left looks like Bronze Age Ring Money. Crudely made as most coins were and I believe the bronze in these was dated to 2500-800 BC. But you need to put up better pictures. The patina and way it is made and finger ring size points to that.

@@HolzHammerSagas Many people also still believe that the Flintlock Jaw Screws are furniture fittings. These ‘coins’ would have been cast by the million so were made very quickly. On some you can see the remains of the Sprue! Have a careful look around the edge. I have a few where the Sprue has not been totally clipped off.

Two dolphins 🤔(20:00 mins). Possibly dropped by a Viking? The two raptors as depicted in Easylife’s example are a common motif in Anglo-Saxon culture (check out the Sutton-Hoo treasure). Dolphins, if they are Dolphins on the other hand are not, so a real head scratcher. Excellent video yet again.

Dave it could be one of several Emperors you will have to do some research; that reverse started with Constantine the Great I think, but could be one of his sons or successors too - look up "Gloria Exercitus" two soldiers and standards and good luck - let men know what you come up with!

@@HolzHammerSagas Yeah, I spotted that. I thought you had shifty eyes from the moment I first watched one of your videos so it came as no surprise 😉 Just kidding - people are always trying something on, so it's better to learn that while you're still testing the water, I suppose. I haven't sold on eBay for years, so I can't say with any authority, but I'm sure it won't be a common thing. It's a bugger to get one early doors, though. Anyway, at least I know who to ask when I'm short of empty envelopes 😉
