Stung By Bees But Honestly, That Wasn't The Worst Of It!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Mr. Dale called me about a colony of honey bees that had taken up residency in his daughter's crawlspace & that he wanted to keep the bees. No problem!
The colony had definitely moved in the previous season & due to the Chinese Tallow Tree nectar flow having just kicked in, the hive was extremely active!
The bees themselves were fairly gentle albeit I did take at least 20 stings removing the hive, but I never get mad at bees I'm evicting with zero notice!
The real pain in the you know what on this job was twofold: I was sandwiched against hog chain wire fencing & this main water or sewer line & the fact that I had to lay on this pipe the entire duration of the removal process!
Everything worked out in the end even though I had back & neck issues for at least a few days afterwards & Mr. Dale got a delightful, productive honey bee colony out of the deal.
Thank you for stopping by to view my channel, glad to see you here, JP.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? Haven’t seen any new videos for 4+ months. Hope you’re OK! Roger in Pierre South Dakota USA ,
JP. It's great to see you uploading videos again. They are so refreshing to watch, among all the craziness these days. Keep it up !! 👍
It is amazing how you can capture the queen without squishing any other bees. Easier than finding her in the vac. Your tenacity in saving them in the most uncomfortable positions is amazing.

6mm opening allows workers to pass through but the queens big butt won't fit through. Even the end of the clip has a 6mm opening. Hard to crush them if your gentle as you should be.
You are so fun, JP! I regularly watch your old videos and it's amazing how much your quality & entertainment value continues to increase!! You'll always be the best! 🎵 💯

Someone was thinking when they came up with that vac and transfer system - that is a great way to move the bees!!!!
@JPthebeeman
Жыл бұрын
The set up is my design, my idea anyway. A guy named Guy contacted me 8-9 years ago, something like that, said he wanted to put out a commercial bee vac so we talked it over. He had several ideas but I knew exactly what it should be. He even sent me like 5 or 6 of his ideas but finally listened to reason & decided to put it together like I had envisioned. “Betterbee,” sells them now through their website as Guy officially retired from making the bee vacs. It’s a great design, very user & bee friendly & that was always my desire. I was tired of shaking bees out of boxes on the tailgate of my truck, 9:00 at night, lol. This system is so much easier.

@@JPthebeeman Well - congrats - that is one cool devise - good for the keeper and the bees!
I wish all my beekeeper buddies could see how slowly & carefully you handle the frames. People say how easily their bees get riled up, but then I help them do inspections & see that what riles up the bees is THE BEEKEEPER! 😆
Looks like the 🐝s have ‘leg warmers’ on…(pollen leg warmers!) Great video Mr JP, thank you 🐝🤛🏼💛

Just great seeing the follow thru post removal. I could watch you doing removals all day long, JP, but seeing how you handle a hive and hearing your decision process while you evaluate what is going on is sauce on the goose!

Glad you're back regularly and in good health! I've been watching bee-wrangling videos for several years now and I'm pretty sure I got into them after watching one of your videos of a removal of a swarm that was on a car in a parking lot. I really enjoyed the videos during the pandemic - made a huge difference to me. Take Care.
That pizza and Italian music cracked me up JP 😂 A beautiful hive! I hope your back recovers quickly from that pipe!
Moved that colony into their new home. They hadn't been there long , almost all their comb was white, but they are taking to their new home quite well. Wouldn't have been able to do it without your inspiration JP. Keep up the good work.
I hope you come back! I miss learning from your channel.
Damn JP Man, I missed you a LOT and was worried what the heck happened?!! Great that you are back.
With that skinny a queen (at capture) and the way those bees built comb, I would suspect a fresh swarm in an older colony if it weren't for all the capped brood. Congratulations to the new owner for a nice hive.

Hey Betty! ✌️🐝✌️
JP, When I'm working on my truck whether that be on my back or knees for a long period of time, and me getting up there in age, one thing that has made a world of difference is when I started using Interlocking EVA (foam) Floor Tiles, seen used in children's room or for gymnastics which are thicker. I used to feel sore without using them, but after using them once you will always have some for the job you just had, and you can also buy EVA (foam) blocks which you could use on each side of that pipe to make it almost a flat and as comfortable as a bed. ~ Hope that might help, Mark

Love to see JP helping the Bees. Those girls look like they are so happy and doing great. Have a fantastic day JP
wooh a JP video while doing laundry! Perfect to watch while waiting for the machines
They certainly are a productive hive! Even my untrained eye can easily spot all the comb they've drawn out on the plastic frame, the attachment if old comb to the wooden frame, the nectar, the removal of the rubber bands - and of course all the eggs and larvae, thanks to the queen. Mr Dale got very lucky that it turned out to be such a big strong colony.
The new "voice from beyond" is very interesting. Ha! 😮
thanks for sharing JP
Holy smokes JP, that's a whole lotta bees. Bless them and you!! 🐝
I used to live in Algiers Point over a decade ago, but listening to you talk makes me miss NOLA so much. My favorite place to have lived. Just found the channel today and already watched like 4 videos 😋. Just love your voice, the attitude you have towards the bees, and the skill and knowledge you clearly possess in handling them. 🥰👍

Thanks for another interesting JP. Hope your back has recovered. Nothing worse than laying over something like that, for that length of time. Stay Well.
Hi JP. When I am working on the ground, I use those 2ft foam squares they have at Sam's for kid's floors. Maybe that would help your back. Take care.

Thanks for publishing your art for the rest of us to learn from. Aloha!
I find it incredible how geometrically perfect the hexagonal cells always are. Not to mention the fact the bees somehow know that shape maximizes the space.

Hi JP, the Bee whisperer!!! I've always been afraid of bees due to having a bad reaction when I was in Elementary School: I got it in the face, I wanted nothing to do with any of them. Ever since I've been watching you, you've given me a new perspective towards them and now I am in a trance with how good you are with them, I especially like the lessons. I race with you on looking for the Queen: to see if I can recognize them. Thank you so much for your tutoring on these beautiful creatures and how not to get stung; by NOT waving or swatting.

There are many basement type houses where I reside but they all tend to be older homes. Almost all have sump pumps to pump water out when the basements flood. They’re really not the best design for my area, being we are at or even below sea level in certain areas.
All this time watching you I never knew you was from my town
JP, I want to see a video showing what you do months later when the the frames are all wonky and what you do about that and what you do with the bees and how you remediate frames that aren't straight comb.

U can see the bees coming back absolutely LOADED with polen on their back legs! Crazy. I got a ant colony I keep. Love how bugs can be so complex.
I always enjoy watching your videos JP, keep up the good work!
Take care of your body, JP. You work very hard and those bees need you in the community for the long haul. Just like you take a car to the shop to get a tune up, also don't hesitate to get some regular maintenence. A good physical or massage therapist can work wonders in keeping you feeling alright after such a hard day's work. Plus, maintenence is usually cheaper than repair, God forbid we have to consider removal 😂🩹 you deserve just as much love and care as you give those bees!!! 🐝🐝🐝
So very cool to see them doing so well good job PJ.
