I spent some time in Belgrade Lakes this summer in July. Managed to see and hear loons, it was really the highlight of my trip.

You are a most fortunate man to live on a beautiful lake in Maine and be serenaded by the haunting cry of the loons. Great information and video Bob😊👍

Great video. I was surprised to see a juvenile Common Loon diving the surf off of Monterey in Central coastal of California. I thought they were more of a Northeast bird, but no they winter along the Pacific coast as well

I recently saw a juvenile Common Loon diving in and out of the surf off the coast of Monterey, California. That’s surprised me as I always assumed they were a northeast bird. But according to Audubon and Sibley, they are also found on the Pacific Coast.

I’ve often wondered about the complex relationship between the eagle and loon. I once witnessed an adult eagle (on Little Pushaw) land amongst a group of loons, and then let himself drift back to the piece of land where his nest was. Bathing? Surprisingly, all of this occurred without the loons saying one word. On that day, there was a truce. That was such a great video!

I visit from Colorado to relatives in MN - where I have the pleasure of seeing and hearing loons. I'm addicted. Thanks so much for the info. I have a loon whistle and needed to be reminded of the distinctions in their calls.

I am not a birdwatcher, but I just wanted to let you know that your shots look fantastic and I can tell that you put a lot of effort into filming this, also great audio in the bird calls!

Please trade your lead lures for non-lead to protect the loons. Loons are twice as big as an adult Mallard with an up to 46" wing span. That's my little 2 cents. :) I love loons. Thank you for the entertaining and informative video!

LOL. I chaired the Maine legislature's Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee when small lead sinkers were phased out. I'm not in the legislature now, and you're right, there is still more to be done.

Nice story! For me, it is annually great to see (usually hear one first) the arrival of that first loon sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving along the MS Gulf Coast. They serenade late fall & all winter into early spring on quiet days as I kayak by at a distance.

The fun part is, they know who you are and they do communicate. They'll tell you what they want and don't want. They're lots of fun once you get to know them.
