Stuff Beginner Guitarists ACTUALLY Need
Музыка
If you're new to playing guitar, it's tempting to think you need lots of fancy kit straight away to make you a better guitarist... you don't. If you've got a guitar and a love for learning, you're most of the way there. That said, there are some items that, in my opinion, are essential in your early guitar playing journey.

I will agree on most of your advice, exception for the acoustic guitar part. IMHO, if a guitarist enjoys shredding on an electric guitar, and is good at it... there is no point for him in playing acoustic guitar... exception for improving his acoustic guitar skills. You train on what you plan to play. In the same way, I won't train to play tennis so that I could be better at badminton.
I think the most important with an exception of those obvious is the stand :-) Really helps when you can just pick an instrument and start playing :-)
Given a like entirely for mentioning keeping your guitar visible. Just having it sitting and ready to be played at all times makes a huge difference mentally. Dont just set it on a stand in the corner you never look at. Keep it visible. Next to the tv, your desk, next to the bed, or even in the kitchen/dining room. I kept mine in a case when I had very limited room. Even if that case was sitting against the wall next to my bed, I would still barely ever crack it out to noodle. But with the case in the closet and the guitar on a stand next to the bed, I would grab it constantly. Seeing it more makes you want to play more. You play more, you learn more. You learn more, you want to play more.

Mine is next to the bed :-) I also think this is a great tip.

It’s so true. Such a simple way of improving, just having it to hand.

Thanks so much Jhonn! That means a lot 😊 Will try my best to keep it up!
Great vid 👍as newbie guitarist only playing for a year or so I’d like to chuck in a couple of suggestions. 1 - a subscription to the Ultimate Guitar app (or something similar). It’s great to choose from thousands of titles to get chords & tab, you can play the kind of stuff you want to play at whatever standard you’re at rather than what mags etc want (we don’t all want to play Metallica! Some of us are in it for the Motown 😎) 2 - one of those small multi fx units so u can work out what different effects do without forking out $$$ (the NU-X Mighty Plug is the best $60 I’ve ever spent on FB marketplace 😅 also the Zoom G1-ON is good/cheap) just another thing to remove the barrier to practice. Anyway, love the vid, keep ‘Em coming 👍
Nice personality, good sense of humour, great content, entertaining to the end, really enjoyable!!!

Thanks Brent! So glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
My second guitar was an acoustic (Tanglewood Blackbird Superfolk). I am glad I started on electric at first, because I th8nk they are easier to play. But an acoustic can go anywhere.
I agree that playing an acoustic is totally different from electric. I got one 2 years into playing my electric. At first I hated it. it was like going back to being a beginner. But now I love the thing (I have two now. Fender dreadnaught and Yamaha APX600) They really do make you a better electric player. They are unforgiving with a sloppy or lazy hand technique, you can get away with on an electric.
Great video! I just found your channel and dig your sense of humor. Keep it up man!

My father never used a tuner. He would tune by ear. He was a badass on the tele.

That’s cool! Tuning by ear is a really good thing to learn - it’s like navigating without a satnav 😂
The cactus got me to subscribe... lol
I think, instead of buying an acoustic as a second guitar, or an electric if someone has an acoustic, a person should buy a bass instead. If you know the lead, rhythm, and bass parts of a song, you have more opportunities to play with other people. playing bass will make Your fingers so strong, guitar strings will push themselves down out of fear. Also, you can tell people you are a multi instrumentalist. And seem more interesting at parties.
your channel will blow up eventually. your videos are amazing quality

@@MatthewFinchMusic no problem dude. At the moment we’re pretty close in subscribers, but given the quality of your content I’m sure you’ll outnumber me by a factor of 30 quite soon hahahaha.
What if you don't want to and go straight to electric I just need to learn the the basics because I am older time stays we go I don't want to mess my fingers up ?
The acoustic has leaped my progress to the electric a tenfold.. I am too new to the game, but if i was teaching it would be acoustic first.... great video Matthew!! I am totally guilty of gear accumulation lol. What stopped me DUDE you gotta play before you buy anymore CRAP LOL!! Now thinning out my herd, but never selling my first 4 guitars. The horror stories of selling their first guitar lol!

Glad you liked it man! Aghh, I find it really hard to part with gear. But yeah I agree, never the first guitars!
it pains me to be the smartass about a video that I've enjoyed quite a lot (it even recommends whisky!) but we do have our word for the plectrum outside the USA, in fact here it's plettro :P

Please make a video showing how to change your strings! I want to take care of my guitar myself and I really like your explanation style. Also what makes the strings sound different and how do you know which to try
@DantesGrill

I can answer about the string sound; a lot depends on the material used but also how it's manufactured. I think the best way to know what you want is to try out a bunch of different ones, especially since all guitars sound different. What works on one guitar might sound bad on another. Daddario has a good guide of which strings are bright and which are mellow that you can check out to get a gist of it and adjust for what your guitar needs. Other good way is to go to a music store and ask about it. They might have some guitars with different strings you can try out and feel and hear for yourself. I personally just use normal phosphor bronze though. It gets the job done and I don't need anything fancy.

I’ll add it to the list. Thanks 😊
Not "picks" in Denmark - as it sounds just like "pik" - which I will let you google translate into Danish. But good advice all round in the video.

😂 Just checked… ok don’t strum your guitar with a “pik” in Denmark 😬
Don't leave the capo or tuner on the headstock for a month, trust me.

Good advice.
I disagree about the acoustic guitar. You don't have to use effects or plug in your electric guitar to play so buying an acoustic just sounds like an extreme expense for a beginner, especially since I don't expect them to know how to set it up correctly and have it feel comfortable. Also kind of disagree about the wire cutters. Buy a small pair instead of the big one you showed. Small ones are easier to work with. Otherwise, good tips overall!
No an electric guitar will not make you sound good, no matter how many effects you use.
