    Have been binge watching your study techniques and I was exactly at the burn out stage before I started applying your ideas of pre study, big picture thinking and mind mapping. I've only just started to do it but i am suddenly seeing literally my entire study material in a different light. I'm someone who actual draws patterns and connections on my own and really enjoy curious researching into random concepts and I realise that i was doing the exact opposite of this with my academic content. Just passively absorbing the information from my linear notes , and all the hard work i could possibly do in this inefficient way just made me start to feel like a failure. Now I'm feeling like I can tune into how my brain actually will study on its own and use that for my academic purposes. Something that really hit me is whenyou said learning happens in the brain and not out in notes or paper.This is still the beginning but thank you so much for enlightening us 🙌🙌 , I have a big exam coming up and I really hope I can do my best in the right way 😊

I enjoy the extra length in your vids with how you explain the little details here and there. It makes the topic much easier to absorb and relate to. This is one of my most favorite vids from you and I hope you continue to help and educate us more. More power to you, man

    Thank you Dr, I have been investigating study methods. Recently I decided to take the Google Project Management course, but using mind maps and very low literal notes. Probably from the whole course I have like 4 notes, my mind maps still require more technic but my retention is incredible, beyond my spectation. Still have to work on some areas, like for me as engineer is harder to find relations with things like soft skills, but proceses are extremely easy for me to find relations. By the way there is poem from the Mexican poetist Ruben Bonifaz Nuño called Que fácil sería, that also make the relation between a fly constantly crashing in the window and the human psyche.

    interesting how you describe that cycle - sounds abit what huberman says about procrastination - he says when you do stuff for whatever reason you get a neurotransmitter high, but this wears off and becomes somewhat negative to baseline - so you procrastinate and wait until it returns to baseline zero and you feel recharged - or to speed the process up, you could force yourself todo something that sucks (in his example he says it has to be unrelated to the original task) - then your body would produce more neurotransmitters to decrease the difference - so if you stop that task - you should have more neurotransmitters compared to when you were procrastinating and feel more motivated again. (but from your example i see how it can become a negative spiral too)

    12:46 that's what I needed to hear I discovered your channel early and I didn't care really it only hit me at around the end of the year exam when I really lost all motivation to study and rediscovered your channel. I saw the video about the .1% of students (Archer Newton and Derick) who study 5 hrs a week and get top marks and I thought I could be like them in a day and that hard work is useless but now the bigger picture here is that hard work is the important PART of the equation but it's not all and vice versa.

    I like your videos in general, but this one was really a time-waster. 22 min and the only take-away is not to study hard, study smart and if your "study smart" strategy is correct, don't think twice. Did not see a proper storyline in this video of yours, the story did not fit in well to deliver on what the title of this video mentioned. The loose connection that you drew between studying hard implying to bad form of note-making wasn't good enough. Don't get me wrong, lot of great ideas being highlighted in this video, but net take-away was hardly anything my friend. Have great expectations from you, keep up the good work otherwise. Cheers mate!

    Seems like lots of viewers get the wrong idea. Yeah yeah, work hard is th key of success. However, we often forget one thing: HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH? and the answer may shock you but if you lack of sleep, can't attend some events or outdoor activities, you feel like you don't have time to do all the stuff and sleep at 11pm and wake up at 4am is a common strategy, then you are working too much. You may surprise to know that most of success students often wake up early not because they work up early to work or study but because they have so many free time to do what they want so they feel energetic and wake up early. You may think those genius are lazy because they don't seem to study much but sti score high marks. Then you are right: genius are lazy, why? Because they can lazy, and they enjoy their life happily when people who don't understand judge that working hard ia everything and then a bunch of time management occurs. There is no point of working hard when you work wrongly or on the wrong thins.

    Call me cynical, but it seems like you're just saying "you're doing it wrong" for 20 mins., slightly hint at a better method at the end, then do it again for another video, which creates more content than simply stating step-by-step the most effective and most efficient method to learn specific to a subject, with maybe an update every 6 months. Idk maybe it's my asperger-y approach to learning things of "that's a nice story, but what's the correct reading material, exercises, and testing procedures I need to do for how many hours, in what order, exactly at what time, how to intersperse it, and for how many rounds?"

  • @grilla4464

    I think these videos are just meant to be broad introductory content to the concepts which constitute his learning method. The more in depth and precise information you want is likely reserved for his courses. The content is more valuable than you suggest though. It may not be as intricate and precise as what may be preferable but it does provide enough information for us to investigate it by ourselves.

    He did. It's just that knowing better techniques make things easy. Easy as in, you still have to study for 8 to 10 hours, but it isn't as mentally exhausting because maybe you used priming and active recall, maybe order control. Because, 10 hours of studying doesn't feel like 10 tedious hours when you are in an optimum state of focus, infact it is actually really motivating. And if you're someone who has above average intelligence, studying techniques that are more stimulating lead to insane conceptual clarity and problem solving skills.

    I've got a great question: Could you have made it through medical school studying only 4 hours a day or less? I would say absolutely not. If it could be done everyone would be a doctor. Here's another question: how long would it take to go from arithmetic to calculus? That should take you actually less time because math is literal and unambiguous compared to literature. You couldn't even learn your timetables in only 4 hours of studying. Pure repetition over maybe a weekend and a child can do it. Teach me all of mathematics in week or hell, even a month and the world 🌎 would beat a path to your door.

  • @novusstudios1744

    @novusstudios1744

    Well medicine is a special case obviously. For most other subjects this could work out. Also no you can't realistically say that if it took 4 hours then everyone could do it. There are alot of variables to take into place such as how they are studying, whether they're focused or not, whether they focused in the lectures prior and so much other stuff. Heck, the reason it would take four hours for the timetable is cause you don't learn a timetable, you memorise it. Once I understand how 2 x 6 = 12 I've learnt multiplication. I memorise the timetables so I can remember those answers without having to think too hard about it but easily recall it from memory.
