Not sure where I would fit in so perhaps a bit of my background would be helpful. I dropped out of a BSc in comp Sci to go to Drama school and train as an actor - at a very traditional Drama school with heavy emphasis on voice training. I was very successful at being an out of work actor so I did a fair bit of corporate stuff and some voice coaching. Gave up acting and eventually did a CELTA course and worked as an EFL teacher for quite a few years. I am a bit...gob smacked by the fees - SO much more expensive here in the UK- especially for overseas students.

Hi can u help me with this question? a) A woman entered who was eating a chocolate enchilada. b) The man that Bill said that Mary disliked loves beef waffles. With sentence (a) assume that the relative clause [who was eating a chocolate enchilada] is a modifier of the woman. Assume that the man is both the direct object of the verb disliked and the subject of the verb loves. Is it possible to draw trees for these sentences without crossing lines? Explain why or why not.

I love this video, Hilpert, it's very instructive and clear! I am from Brazil and the interest of my doctoral research lies on neologisms and lexical creativity, under a cognitive perspective of linguistics, more precisely involving construction grammar. Does University of Neuchâtel offer any specific program of doctorade exchange for non european students? Thank you for the great contents available on this channel!

Hi Constanza, if you are accepted into a Masters program, you can apply for a visa at a Swiss representation in your country of residence. The visa application needs to be done at least 3 months before the start of the university courses. A student visa allows you to work up to 15 hours per week, after completion of the first semester. I added links about these issues to the info box. Good luck with your studies, and let me know if you have other questions!

Martin my daughter is thinking of studying in Neuchâtel, but missed the open day? Have any of your colleagues in the English department posted videos talking about their courses, teaching, the place? It's a challenge to decided which is better, Neuchâtel, Geneva or Lausanne.

Hi Klarina, many thanks for your question! I wrote this in a response to a similar question: I might make another video with tips and strategies for prospective PhD students. For the PhD students that I supervise myself I have a golden rule, namely that I only take on candidates if I can pay them a salary. That means that I have relatively few PhD students, and openings are not every year. I also make sure that the dissertation projects align well with my own research interests, so that I can optimally support the PhD students. I wish you the best of success!
