StuDog tests and gives a Frank review of the 300 Series Landcruiser

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

StuDog makes a triumphant return to KZread as he gives his thoughts on how the 300 Series Landcruiser performs while towing a caravan and what development Wholesale Automatics will embark on to improve Toyota's latest Land Cruiser.
StuDog also discovers just what it means to join the caravaner's fraternity

Well done StuDog, brilliant, loved your opening comment " It's good to be back, though I haven't been anywhere." That echo's my sentiments exactly. I think you're like me, prefer a vehicle that assumes that you can actually drive, rather than one that wants to take over, HJ45s forever!!! Looking forward to the next StuDog extravaganza!!!!

I found in both my auto 4WDs that as soon as I put proper LT tyres on the T/C lockup point moved to higher speed (speedo speed, which of course also means road speed) because of the extra engine load needed to drive the bigger tyres. This was on LT tyres of the same size as factory as well as the larger tyres many people opt for. It affects lock up while not towing and more when towing, obviously. If the 300 is faffing around locking up with standard rubber you will definitely see a demand for a lockup kit, valve body, and cooler for the big tyre brigade travelling in the hot outback. Those folk might see some pretty interesting temperatures in the hot V as well :)

Well done Stu, you offered some very good technical insights! I have two suggestions for your future productions. Number one is to look straight into the camera lens, as if you are talking to a person in real life. As hard it will seem at first, it will make a huge difference. Secondly, the editor needs to hit -1 decibels for audio before uploading. Currently the volume is to soft. Otherwise, looking forward to your next uploads. Cheers!

Us Pajero owners used to wave to everyone. But over the years as Landcruiser owners never waved because they hadn't perfected their "Royal Waves", we sort of gave up. As for Patrols, my best guess is that they tended to keep both hands on the wheel as they were driving so fast waving was unsafe.

What is it with Toyota programming gearboxes to keep unlocking the torque converter. Surely it would be more efficient to drop a gear if more torque is needed rather than slipping the torque converter.

Not bad for a first time effort Stu, I'm sure that you will master the task quickly and I will keep an eye out for future videos. If I could make one suggestion, that is, if you take someone with you get them involved, eg your wife, as she would more than likely have been able to provide some interesting input from a different perspective to yourself. Even your dog, did we get a name ? was there any acknowledgement that he was even there ? etc. There were a lot of comments received about the wave, which didn't relate to the assessment of the vehicle, so you can see how little things can add to the interest. Not criticism at this stage but something that may help you make it more entertaining for your viewers. Keep it going.

Its not a sports mode. Its a manual mode. There's no sports function to it. The sports mode would be ECT button. It does hold the gear until it can't, unlike the select mode on the 200.

@@kippen64 how long it takes to get your 300 depends on spec, colour and trim, my local dealer said that it’s its VX and Sahara’s in colours like white and graphite with black leather have the most demand, therefore it will take the longest, whereas someone ordered a GXL in Merlot Red, and it took them 4 months to receive it..
