Studio Vlog - new jewelry collection - how I prepare wax models for casting

This studio vlog was filmed over a couple of days, showing the design process of wax models that will get casted and finished in silver in next video's. I will launch this new collection on March 11th! I got the question "How to prepare wax models for casting?" so answered that at the end of this video.
I used the "NO. 6 Red Mold-a-Wax (soft)" by Ferris for making the prototype.
And the "NO. Black Mold-a-Wax (regular hardness)" by Ferris for the finished wax models.
The book about the lost wax technique (review video coming soon!) shown at the end of the video: www.artisanideas.com/product/...

I've been enjoying your videos a lot! I am pretty familiar with wax carving, and I had never heard of Mold-a-Wax. I have played with a red sticky wax in a class, but I found it too sticky. Is the red mold-a-wax similar to red sticky wax? And can the black mold-a-wax be carved when it is cool? I would also love to see a more detailed video about all the various types of waxes. I found a handful of different videos about waxes, but they are all pretty introductory. A video about different waxes for intermediate / advanced students that included less common waxes would be great. It is hard to get a real sense of their working properties by reading about them, and I don't think anyone has made a video that shows how they work. Thank you for your videos!

Thanks, a more intermediate / advanced video on wax is a great idea! The red mold a wax is sticky, yes. The black mold a wax is almost not possible to handle once cold, because it than is very brittle.

Hello! Your videos are lovely and sooo inspiring! Interesting material and a lot of knowlage! Thank you so much! I would like to ask for help with wax models for casting. I have a lot of Swarovski Crystalls that I received from an old jeweller. I would love to create delicate rings with these crystalls. How can I design the ring like that for cast? Should I just leave the space for the crystal or the stone? How can I do the "claws"? I can't figure it out. Please help

Nice vlog! I enjoyed seeing how you prepare for a new collection. I actually really like both your different types of designs. The new collection reminds me of Commedia dell'Arte or the movie Labyrinth (do you know it - David Bowie).

So glad I’m not the only one who likes both styles 😄 Yes, Commedia dell’Arte but also James Ensor are some of the sources of inspiration for these pieces. I have never seen that movie, but Jim Hensons’ movies are on my “want to watch” list 😉

Hi! It depends what you want to make. If you want to sculpt/model by hand I suggest to use the "NO. 6 Red Mold-a-Wax (soft)" by Ferris for making the prototype. I also write the type of wax I use in the description of the video. Hope this is helpful.
