Lost Wax Carving Technique for jewelry making and Book Review
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I show how to carve a simple signet ring using the lost wax technique. Plus I also review 2 books, the must-have lost wax modeling books from the 80's that are now re-printed.
Some things I used:
-a purple 'Ferris File-A-Wax' tube for carving
-twisted saw blades for cutting the wax
-wax files
-my favorite saw frame (the red one) is a Knew Concepts saw frame
-the wax model was casted in sterling silver by a local casting company
-sealing wax to make the wax seal on the envelope
About the books:
BOOK 1) "Basic Wax Modeling - An Adventure In Creativity" by Hiroshi Tsuyuki

BOOK 2) "Practical Wax Modeling - Advanced Techniques for Wax Modelers" by Hiroshi Tsuyuki and Yoko Ohba www.artisanideas.com/product/...

The discount code still works for me today. Yay! Cant wait for my books. Thanks for sharing Karolien!
As someone a bit lost, and wondering about how and where to start with wax carving and lost wax technique, I found this incredibly helpful! I'm going to get those books and have a go. Thanks so much
Thanks for sharing. Last time I often think about CNC and 3D printing for jewelry, but I must admit, freehand wax carving has some charm I can't explain. Like vinyl or a glass of good old cognac. Great books, I need them.
So informative! Thanks for sharing. Btw you have such a beautifull calming voice!! Groetjes, a dutchie!

Hello, Thank You for sharing your ideas and handful techniques of waxing. I have a question in regards to your wax molding leaf pieces. After you glue the piece (leaf) in wax , do you cover the entire leaf in wax? then cast in which ever metal but and leaving inside the actual leaf? I am a little confused. I will appreciate your advice. Thank You 😊
Hello 👋 like 44👍 I also have this book, very good job 🌼🌺🌼🌺

Hi ! Thanks for sharing. What kind of wax do you use for the free forming ?? Is it soft or hard?? Thanks :)
You may have answered this in one of your other videos; do you use separate files for the wax technique or do you use the same files for both wax and metal. Very informative video. I live watching you work 💖

I have separate files for wax carving, they are specific wax files, because your usual jeweler’s files will get clogged up easily. Thanks for your support! 💛
Hi Kornelia, do you know an easy method that I can use to hand polish my rings after they’ve been casted? I don’t know where to start. I’m hoping to find a method that doesn’t involve a lot of tools or expensive tools overall. Thanks! 🙂

When I was just starting I just started with sand paper and a glass fiber brush. If you want a matte finish, you can go through all the steps of sandpapers going to a finer paper every time and after that use a glass fiber brush as the finish. But easy...no, polishing is something that will take time (a loooot of time) and tools and technique before it will become more easy (sorry). Just start learning with sand paper, because if you know how to do that, it will help you a lot once you are able to invest in the tools.
Wow, I didn’t know signets were use are forms of “signature” or for wax imprints

I’m looking for a page where you could buy this that shops worldwide. I buy almost everything from a local company that sells jewelry supplies. As soon as I know, I’ll give you a link.
