I’ve always said that any version of Megatron that deliberately tries to mimic his G1 design should include his own pistol mode as an accessory, just like his fusion cannon. Then, you can just give the gun accessory to one of the other Decepticons, and have the actual Megatron become a tank.

As a collector who appreciates vehicle realism it bugs me Earthrise Optimus has a completely different grill design from his robot abs and a trailer that falls short in height, (yet looks fine on Volvo Prime) and also small for a truck compared to Deluxe cars. SS86 Prime could have a broader appeal for even the casuals and I’m for it.

I think there is too much focus on MP44. MP10 was awesome. I have no problem believing that with how long MP10 has been out they can bring a lot of MP10-isms to the commander class price point.

I do get it, but I do think they both have problems, like mainly the fake grill. I think it would be great to use what works from them, but to also implement new ideas like (just for example) how reactivate optimus flips in the legs.

MP 10 was a fantastic figure in 2011. Engineering has moved on to the point where the mainline Voyager Siege version is categorically better than MP 10 in basically every way. And yet even that's still not perfect

With the release of MP-44s coming in 24' I doubt they will use that mold

I saw a post on TFW2005 that theorized the designers pitched SS86 Optimus in order to get Magmatron and Tidal Wave in United. Sure, Tidal Wave was a necessity after Armada Megatron popped up in Evolution and Magmatron’s alternate mode/modes are dinosaurs (winners with kids no matter what), but Optimus is a guaranteed seller no matter how big he is or who his audience is*. That, and this way G1, Beast Wars, and Armada (the one that lit the flame and the ones that reignited it) are all represented by the big ticket items of 2024. *the jury’s still out on whether or not a Titan Class Optimus would sell. Maybe that’s how we get proper updates for Powermaster Optimus and “Apex Bomber”/Godbomber.

I WOULD LOVE A TITIAN CLASS POWERMASTER OPTIMUS PRIME. I've seen how he is every size class except titian, so that would be huge (literally). I would like a new powermaster optimus prime, but I would like it to not fake form (although that is its identity)

Regarding what my ideal Commander Optimus would be: -Siege proportions/leg and abs engineering (Siege OP beats the pants off the Earthrise mold anyway) -Roller (bonus points if they give him the ability to transform AND he’s got the IDW robot mode a la Unite Warriors Roller) -Trailer that can actually do things -Big beefy ion cannon -new mold for the Matrix -solid Energon axe -Megatron’s gun mode (think an upscaled version of Kingdom Megatron’s pistol) -blast effects designed to be movie-accurate and an alternate scuffed up head (ideal for a Shattered Glass repaint)

i understand why a lot of people aren't crazy about yet another G1 optimus but as someone that passed on earthrise prime because i just wasn't a fan of the robot mode, plus the lack of accessories, this could (and probably will) be exactly the G1 prime i've been wanting

If they do it right, they have a ton of repaints with and without the trailer. Printing their own money if done right. Can do a no trailer version, a toy accurate version, a shattered glass, Nemesis Prime, Toxitron...what am I missing?

I really hope this is a completely new mould and not just an Earthrise Optimus retool with a bigger trailer and a few accessories

Yeah, same here. Coronation Starscream proves that they are capable of doing that, but to make it a commander class does hint towards a new mold/tooling. So hoping for a Magnus situation here :)

I think it will be just for the fact they recently re-released the preorder for Earthrise Optimus again to milk it for its last run.

This will never happen, but I'd love to have a six-inch Peter Cullen figure bundled with the character he made famous instead of a bunch of accessories I'll probably never use.

I think for 86 Megatron, you'll want his Walter P30 as an accessory, then have him turn into maybe a double barrel tank? Spin back panel, butterfly arms back, collapse legs up and flip out treads. That's how you solve the US gun laws and the mass shifting.

When you mentioned the thing with Trhust on the grille I now hope a 3rd party employee heard that idea and is ready to get working on such a thing.

If they are smart with the legs, they should let you have the option to have the wheels out or tucked away depending on if you prefer cartoon or toy accuracy. Additionally, they should have swappable eyes so you can choose blue or yellow

Like SS86 Ultra Magnus, I hope that this commander class Optimus Prime is near masterpiece style engineering. For hasbro to make it a downsize less complicated version of MP-44 and for the trailer/combat deck to be colored like the original G1 toy. With the hose, nozzle, and fuel pump. Energon axe and ion blaster. Heck give him two, since there were two different G1 ion blaster designs. Roller, repair drone, this 18:00 drone too, blast effects, Matrix of Leadership of course, and swappable parts to represent his battle damaged head and fatal wound for his side. For the display backdrop to be the battle of Autobot City. -And with Optimus Prime on the way, a SS86 Megatron should be in the works. Heck, a SS86 Galvatron and SS86 Rodimus Prime should be on the draw board as well.

And then inspiration struck like purple lightning: a Leader class Megatron that transforms INTO Galvatron!!! That would be awesome!

There are three routes I can see them taking. 1: Have it be like classics megatron where it is a gun but not accurate. 2: Have it be a gun but very abstract so it doesn't raise any flags. 3: Haslab because it would sell and can be a gun because it isn't going to stores and isn't specifically for children

Considering the upgrade from Kingdom/Seige Magnus to SS86 Magnus, this new Optimus is going to be a major improvement on the Earthrise. Not likely a Starscream situation. He'll have new engineering to get a more accurate form. And a TON of accessories. Roller, matrix, energon axe, ect. There are going to be limitations. I dont think they'll be able to hide the wheels on his legs.

Just my opinion but I’m okay with that. I like seeing the wheels on Prime’s legs, G1 show accuracy or not, because combined with his torso it further illustrates that Prime turns into a truck.

I thought the Netflix version of the Earthrise mould made a really excellent G2 Comic Prime. The jank proportions suited that version of the character really well, as opposed to just looking bad as a G1 Prime

@@Spootprime because none of them are correct in terms of being a G1 Prime. Yes the Classics and Siege are both fantastic, but they are also both stylisations. And the Power of the Primes was also very good, but it doesn't fit with the rest of a mainline movie collection. We've gotten the be all end all versions of other characters, but never Prime or Megatron. And if you're happy with those other figures then that's great. I know we haven't gotten the definitive Optimus Prime yet, and I'm still waiting for it. I'm really hoping this will be it

I think that we are gonna get everything tj said about the main figure, as well as a good trailer, but for the accessories probably only the ion blaster, axe, swappable part for his side, roller, and the battle station. Possibly some blast effects, too. I think that’s all they can really get out of the commander budget, realistically.

Earthrise Optimus Prime is currently my second favorite Transformer. I also got the Centurion Drone accessory pack to give him Roller, his energon axe, and a better Ion Rifle. The remaining flaws in the figure are so small to me, I don't see myself caring. They'd have to find a way to achieve absolute perfection to even tempt me to buy a new G1 Prime, and even then, I'm still willing to settle for what I have.

ER Prime is seriously fantastic. I’m excited to see what they do with SS86, but I agree that I am super happy with ER as my main Prime.

I would like them to go a little overscaled compared to the movie for his matrix chamber so that the matrix can be held more like Neo Big Convoy can (ideally, therefore, some conversion parts for commander Magnus and leader Galvatron to hold the new bigger matrix in the chest/round the neck - although this is not how they normally go about their business so would be very unlikely). What I think we'll actually see is a completely new mould for the main figure with a full-size trailer that does all the things you would expect of it. I wouldn't be completely surprised if the repair drone and roller were disassemblable to use them as weaponisers (perhaps allowing us to recreate the jetpack or the missile firing backpack that was originally intended in Diaclone or even some bigger G2-style guns - this could also be a way of doing the alternate look for the weapon drone from that one episode). It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we might get rubber tyres as they have recently implemented this with Beachcomber to some acclaim. I doubt we will see new blast effects - I think we'll maybe get a couple of the Jetfire effects as the big base one would be quite a nice matrix glow and they look, fully assembled, closest to how I recall Prime's blaster firing of the existing blast effects (it would be nice to get two for the drone's guns). I do think we'll see the battle damage but as swap-out parts rather than blast effects (they have shown a willingness to do alternate heads in the recent Buzzworthy 4-pack). I would like to see some chrome - they've done this for both the Haslab Victory figures and Commander is quite a high price point for Prime - it probably needs one-or-two 'luxury' features to justify the price. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that they might bundle in an accessory pack with the trailer to add extra weapons to existing releases (toy style missile launchers and swords for the SS86 Dinobots would be really appreciated; maybe a shoulder launcher for SS86 Jazz) The craziest addition would be a voyager sized actionmaster Megatron to face off against him! (the best, by the way, approach I would hope for for a Megatron release would be if they did Origin Megatron - as we never saw him transform in MTMTE part 1, they would be free to do a very anime accurate robot mode and try to dream up a very Sunbow style cybertronian transformation for him - my preference would be that he transforms into a tetrajet-derived weapons platform with the legs forming the lower two wings and the upper wing replaced with a massive cannon formed of the upper body of the robot mode)

Ok, yes good. Here's the requirements: No faux forming. That truck grill needs to become the robot ab grill. The wheels need to fold up into the side of the torse just like we see in the movie. It needs to *at the very least* have the head off the VNR, but preferably have a new mould. A swappable battle damage head at least. But preferably also a damaged waist piece to swap out. The accurate ion blaster. The Energon axe A properly proportioned, coloured and full featured trailer, with roller included. Those are the requirements. I've been waiting for a CHUG G1 Optimus that is good enough to replace my Classics Voyager, and I'm really hoping this is the winner

@@DanDen-gh7si look, I absolutely think that the wheels being visible is better. Bro turns into a truck. I want to see the truck parts. However, considering this is the Studio Series line and they try (most of the time) to make accuracy their priority, I am perfectly ok with the hidden wheels in this case because that is accurate. And if the wheels were visible then I wouldn't consider it to be achieving the goal of the studio series line

They could give him his "heart rate" monitor from his death scene

I'm pretty sure that thing that comes out of the trailer you want is meant to be the repair drone and MP-44 actually does do that.

Honestly, I have a feeling that Optimus is going to be a semi-involved leader class with a trailer and goodies (Our first leader class Optimus in a long time) with a simple trailer, Roller, the repair bay, and blast effects. I don't expect much else out of him because in my opinion that's all he needs. Earthrise Optimus was a figure I was hyped for when he first came out, but over time I gradually began to dislike it for how much it failed to reach what I wanted out of a G1 Optimus toy to the point I sold him knowing I'd likely never get another one since I just didn't mind if I never did. This needs to hit it out of the park, this needs to be a figure that gets everything right, and considering this is both the 40th anniversary Optimus Prime, and part of the 86 series, this is a figure I don't think Hasbro is going to take the chance to cheapen out on. Optimus is their biggest money printer with Bumblebee being second, and with the recent Primes we've gotten that have just been hitting it out of the park (Volvo, Gamer Edition, Armada, and now that new Reactivate version that looks fantastic) I have no doubts this SS86 Optimus will be a figure worthy of that title. Quite frankly, he has no choice but to be since the circumstances of his release won't allow him to be anything but amazing.

I’d say that earth rise Optimus prime pulls off the iconic pose from the 1986 movie well enough, but I still think that there could be some improvements in the hip joints. That’s probably where this studio series listing comes into play.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the announcement for studio series 86 Optimus prime is actually on the day of the transformers 40th anniversary a.k.a. the original air date of the “more than meets the eye“three part special in 1984.

I hope 86 Optimus Prime has butterfly joints so that we recreate the Optimus’ Final Blow on Megatron.

I'll probably be tempted by this since i never got the earthrise version and i also very much hope it doesn't just reuse the legs from that version as well, And since it's commander but probably won't be very large it defiantly needs to come with all the essential items like the trailer, roller, axe & gun and then whatever other extras they want to throw in from the cartoon.

If we do end up getting battle damaged alternate parts it would be cool if we could get the medical bed and the monitor shown in his death scene so we can perfectly recreate it. We already have all the characters from that scene done as figures and since this is a movie version Optimus it would be one of the bigger scenes to recrate. Hell they could some how figure out how to get the trailer to turn into to the medical bed. It would be crazy but considering we got both Prowl and Ironhide mid death its not impossible.

Having and loving the earth-rise I still can’t help but be extremely hyped for a commander classed Prime. This has to be the absolute pinnacle we’ll get from generations/SS.

What about making prime taller? And I say that because they always make Megatron tall and taller than prime and they always make magnets taller than prime. But in a lot of ways, they're kind of close to the same size. I'm not saying that he has to be as big as magnus but a little bit more taller cuz sometimes when you put them next to Magnus he looks like a little kid. So if they give him more with and more height I think that would be a good move but that's just me

If a leader optimus prime nowadays is literally just a voyager+ trailer, what will a comander have? Optimus doesnt have a combining gimmick so would it be a leader+trailer? Or would it literally just be an old leader size optimus

I’m guessing it’ll be along the same lines as Kingdom Commander Class Rodimus

I kind of like the idea of not only having a storage bin on the underside of the trailer but also having a way to fold Roller and the repair drone into that storage bin so the whole trailer is open and available for Autobot cars to fit inside. Extra steps in transforming the trailer like that, and the ability to slightly transform and combine Roller and the Repair Drone into the unit from the Fire in the Sky episode would go a long way to making that trailer feel like it's worth the money. A crazy touch would be to find a way to lift up the 86 movie deathbed for Optimus out of the floor of the Repair Bay - having a repair table inside makes a lot of sense and would allow them to make an unexpected callback.

SS 86 Optimus will sell like gangbusters.

Please be good. Please be good. Please don't be another ROTB SS Optimus Prime.

As much as I like Earthrise Optimus, it's got one major problem that ruins it for me to a good degree. It's not only that the proportions are a little off, it's also a good bit under scale in both modes. This kills a play feature that I think is actually pretty important for Optimus. Since the trailer is scaled to his alt mode, it can't accommodate the majority of car bots. I have the BPF Commander figure (aka OS KO Siege Optimus) and he's SO much better than ER as far as scale, and he's even a little too big. I'd be happy if this SS86 Optimus is properly scaled to the Deluxe car bots. The trailer needs to be FULLY FEATURED if they expect me to pay Commander Class price point. The Ion Cannon needs to be screen accurate and in proper scale. Removable battle damage parts. Brand new blast effects would be appreciated. Hell, I want the metal shard that Megatron first injured him with. It's the 40th anniversary next year. They NEED to pull out all the stops on this figure more than any other.

Optimus Prime’s trailer needs to be bigger and come with Roller.

Roller is something that deserves to appear more in media. It would be cool to see him get one of your "How I would use X" videos.

Personally, I skipped out on Commander Ultra Magnus in part due to him being too big (IMO). I've been loving things being more in scale lately. So I'm hoping Optimus doesn't end up dwarfing the leader class dinobots. Past that, I definitely want a bigger trailer, Roller, an accurate gun, and extra parts. It's definitely not happening, but given the price. Id be happy if they skipped the extras, and just gave us an accurate, non transforming Megatron as an accessory, lol.

What I think would be really cool is if they took the trailer being a command center to its fullest extreme. Throw accuracy to the wind and just give us a trailer that can fully unfold out into a command station with terminals and battle stations, turrets and such. Instead of just being an unfolded grey box on wheels, it would be super cool to see it become its own playset. The trailer has the unique potential that all it has to transform into is a big rectangle, and I think there is untapped wonderful things they could do with that. Yes, it wouldn't be accurate to the cartoon but we also never saw the interior of the trailer in the 86 movie itself so... there's plausible deniability that maybe by the year 2005 Optimus had the thing refurbished.

Honestly when 86 Magnus was announced I was convinced a commander 86 Optimus was likely going to happen. Likely will share engineering notes with the ER/MP44. But either way they really got to whoa me to buy it. So, the trailer needs to be big enough to carry a mini-bot, roller, and Energon ax with ion blaster. Have to be a must to justify the price. As the ER prime was good enough for CHUG G1 Optimus.

No faux parts! Take how Classics Deluxe Prime used his truck mode grill and hid the front fenders by utilizing it as the waist. We've had too many G1 Primes that try the same thing over and over. The trailer of course, would also have to be BIG in order to fit Autobot cars and all of the battle platform features like you said. An '86 Megatron on the other hand, is something I've been thinking about, and Im pleased to say that I have a clever answer. Turn him into a gun resemblent artillery cannon. His handle/grip folds down, combines, and sprouts a uni-tread, the back folds and flips around to become the front 2 treads, the stock which can fit a core class figure now, fits inbetween the combined legs, and both the scope and stock recieve purple paint on the inside of the barrels to replicate charging fusion blasts. What do you think? I think personally that its a genious idea, and that Hasbro could consider this option.

I agree with you on this option. Basically Galvatron but G1 styled. I never liked the idea of them changing size to become tiny guns compared to a full sized item like a cannon or tank. Even as a kid this didn't make good sense.

I expected this but still a wee bit disappointing that our first two Studio Series Commanders so far are just G1 truck guys who already got figures as recent as 2-3 years ago. 😅 I’m not saying they should never get updates, Magnus seems pretty cool! But it seems like a bit of wasted potential to keep dedicating Commander to solely 86 stuff there are so many other cool characters that would be WAYYYY more deserving of a Commander even if they aren’t necessarily as popular as someone like Optimus (i.e. RotB Stratosphere, AoE Scorn, WFC Destroyer, DotM Devcon, TLK Infernocus)

If it’s anything like Kingdom Rodimus. It’s going to be peak.

What about a “dead mode” to make him grey? Or, a blast effect from getting shot by Megatron?

This is a wild one but imagine if 86 Optimus comes with a silver gun barrel so that when they make Megatron he has a orange tip BUT you can swap it with the one that comes with prime

If Hasbro announces a swappable grill piece with a reversed picture of thrust to replicate him being reflected in it, specifically as an April fools transformers thing, that would just be the highlight of 2024.

I find myself fiddling with the Earthrise Optimus prime every now and then. It’s probably my favorite Optimus prime toy that I have in my collection. I don’t know if the next trilogy of toy lines are going to come out with a figure that somehow tops this, that might be your chance, studio series 86.

I’m specifically thinking about a blue lightning blast a fact that would go over the right side of Optimus prime’s torso, and could be malleable enough to go over his hand and about half of his forearm. that’s the type of battle damage that I think of when I’m remembering the 1986 movie. Sure, there’s others, but that’s the main one.

I also hope we get a bigger Ion Cannon.

Eh, I think your expectations are too big. I would actually be surprised if it comes with a lot of stuff since SS86 usually just includes things that appeared in the movie and Optimus didn't use a lot of his classic accessories there.

I'll be surprised if they don't even break out an alternate head for this Prime, cuz they're capable of doing it for special retail figures. Shattered Glass Magnus with Delta Magnus' head, Antagony with that alternate TM Scavenger-inspired alt head, the Animated Autotrooper figure in that troop builder multipack with the friggin Kiss Players-inspired head. They're capable of doing it, its just a matter of 'will they?'. And frankly, given this Commander figure's uphill battle, its gonna need as much as is possible : P

If it’s just a new trailer with new accessories, I really want him to come with a megatron gun. Would be so nice to have him or star scream hold it

The one thing that was lacking from studio series 86 ultra Magnus, was the base mode of the combiner wars figure.

That's what I've been saying when they showed off the new Magnus. It doesn't deserve commander class price, because it does everything that leader class CW Magnus did.

I do understand why they made him a commander but I also very much feel that hes kinda boring, but I think that's not really the figures fault. I believe that really is the problem of g1 accuracy and just the way he is in the movie and there isn't much to work with

I wish they took some engineering inspiration from the Ultimate Battle/Universe Special Edition Optimus mold. That mold is overlooked for being ugly as sin in truck mode, but the lower torso design is genius, and doesn't cheat the grill/abs (fake parts is my top design pet peeve). If they could do the same with the front wheels/grill, get rid of the gimmick, and engineer a more proportioned truck with modern techniques, that would be the best prime ever.

The question for SS86 Megatron is how and when? It would make sense if they did both characters during the actual 40th anniversary. With all the leaks I don't think there's been an indication of Megatron coming, unless they sneak him in (SS86 Leader class)? I had almost envisioned Hasbro doing a special 40th anniversary 2 pack of both characters.

I want Megatron to have his gun mold and an extra transformation into a tank !

I doubt that they would do a “zombie prime“ accessory set down the road, but we’ll see.

I believe that we will get in SS86 Optimus Prime what we didn't get in Siege & Earthrise, that we had to go spend an extra $30-$35 in upgrade kits. Looks what they did to Starscream for example! Siege, Earthrise & they didn't add his coronation stuff until the 3rd release! I believe that Hasbo sits back to see what other parties will do to these figures especially when Hasbro doesn't include the right or correct gear such weapons that goes with the character(Bee with a big bazooka) & has unnecessary stuff, gaps, & 5mm ports all over the figure! Notice ss86 & Netflix figures were clean with not having 5mm ports all over them! Add a bunch of blast affects to hit the price point of commander class or $80-90!

I'd pay extra for a transforming Roller with the robot mode based on the IDW version. This has been done by a 3rd party at MP scale. I dearly want one at Generations scale.

Finally studio series 1986 is going to be doing an Optimus prime. I really think that this figure is going to be a new mold, or it could just be a re-release/repackage of the Earthrise Optimus prime.

I wouldn't count on the flight stand at all. This commander class is going to be $35 more than Earthrise leader class, so if we're getting a better figure, better trailer, and better accessories/blast effects, I don't see Hasbro being generous enough to throw in a flight stand as well.

Tbh, I feel like they should make a longer faceplate/head bc the earth rise and siege Optimus heads are round

If they can work out how to hide the back wheels and retool the legs and remove the siege parts, that’s already a win. Then if they give us a bigger trailer with roller and all the trimmingsas well as his energon axe and everything, then yeah.

Loving Studio 86. Only felt a bit let down by Arcee. They need to make all of this series easily available.

I know this isn't going to happen, and I know it's not something that happened in the movie, but for $90, I want the trailer to form a super mode.

ss86 megatron should transform into an artillery cannon to not comprimise his show model too much, plus keeps his gun like body roughly same

Like you, I like Ultra Magnus. I have more than 1. Have his IDW CW version, and I think it stomps the SS86. It has nothing special but being, big… too big even, and I wasn’t wasting the money. Can they make Optimus worth paying the commander price? Well, they did pretty well with Armada, but he does have a super mode. I hope for something amazing and definitive like Rodimus Prime, but 5 years better.

ToyHax can give us the grill with Thrust in the reflection.

I'm hoping for no trailer but a flight stand, accessories and swappable damaged parts.

I don’t really like the newest Ultra Magnus as much as I do the ones that have the cab transform and then have the trailer become armor

Yeah I really wish that magnus had a core robot. It would be that bit of play that the figure needs

it would be funny if the optimus prime was just a downscaled mp10 without chrome and rubber tires and megatron was like the transformers devastation design but with a secret gun mode

Prime himself should not be voyager size. He is noticeable bigger than starscream in G1. He should as a bot split the height difference between coronation starscream and ss86 magnus. He should have enough plastic to be leader class without the trailer, commander class with the trailer. Everyone who says earthrise prime is a good chug G1 prime is mad. Earthrise is way too small and his proportions are comically bad. He has stubby little arms and too short of a torso.

18:02 This was actually done with MP-44. You can combine the anti-aircraft gun and Roller to resemble that.

Actually you don't even need roller. The whole base comes out and has a folding wheel mechanism. You can tow it with roller, but you don't need roller to look like that screenshot.

Can we have white legs this time, rather than grey? It's a really minor thing but will make all the difference.
