For anyone thinking the timestretch didn't sound good in his example, he accidentally had the timestretch mode set to "Drums". That loop he was using was not drums, so it didn't do the best job. There are other algorithms in Studio One that timestretch melodic stuff much better. There is a "Sounds" mode for chords and a "Solo" mode for melodic stuff or vocals. Choosing those options will give much better results.

Primarily use FL Studio. However, I love how Studio One condenses the instrument/plugins into a single tabbed window so that you don't have a ton of plugins on all of your screens.

Try loops in Ableton in Session mode. Just throw them into the empty clip slots (the rectangles) and you can now play them in any order, at any time, all time stretched and syncronised perfectly! Hours of fun can be had! 😃

@@BoloDaProducer It would take less time to do in Ableton. That's what Ableton does. You also have lots of options on your time stretches called "warp modes". Not everything sounds on point stretched the same way. So they offer lots of options.

@@fakshen1973 Yeah I agree I think he's shillin for Studio One here. :) (that first loop sounded like a$$ the way it stretched it too - like unless one wanted that effect, it wouldn't be usable with the chipmunk vibe...) Anyway yeah I made great drum rhythms just throwing different percussion and snare and hi hat loops together for a few songs (in Ableton), gotta get back to that workflow some time. I will say I did like S1 for loops though when I was using it for several tracks - even though then I also felt the stretch'pitch didn't sound too great, it was pretty neat how easily it changes the key of any MIDI OR Audio track to match any key changes you set up. (not even sure Ableton has that yet actually) S1 just ticked me off a bit cause I paid for V5 Pro upgrade and didn't get around to it for a year, then V6 is out already? Too fast and I don't like companies that push major versions too quickly as paid upgrades.

Session mode is good for coming up with ideas quickly. Throw some loops in and many happy accidents can occur. These can inspire and gerenate ideas that you perhaps wouldn't have throught of. It's possible to have a banging beat withing 2 minutes. One disadvantage of Session mode is that it is very easy to get stuck in a loop! Once something starts to take shape it is important to try to move over to Arrangment view quickly so that you don't get trapped in a cycle. I believe having fun is an important element when making music. Amateur or professional, how you're feeling at the time comes through in the music that you produce. You must enjoy what you're doing. This is why a lot of music nowadays sounds dead - there was no vibe in the studio at the time when they made it. If you don't care about or enjoy what you're doing, why should the listener care out or enjoy the music that you make?

  • @Emily_M81

you can also set up a command (or just right click) and send a loop to Impact XT's pads if you want to do the chop and rearrange thing. Someone already mentioned the Chord Track; Studio One is fantastic. I mostly slept on the DAW side and just used the Project mode, but I've since fallen in love with it again.

It simply cannot handle the plugin count like Pro Tools AAX system does. It’s frozen and lost me hours of work. @@BoloDaProducer wish I could say the same because the assignable shortcuts and effect chains are way better than Pro Tools. But, when you do clip based effects you have to begin rendering in order to save it from overloading. Happened on my Mac and Windows. The crash’s do happen in Pro Toolls occasionally. But I have it set to auto save at 2 minute intervals. You can lose some work. True. But when Studio One freezes more than my session has disappeared. Plus random stuff that was lost when they send a small update. Like relocating all of my macro bars and macros that stopped working randomly and you go all the way back to reprogram them the code is correct? Yes. When it works it has some great workflow. But if you are producing 300 projects a month, if doesn’t hold up. Glad it’s been try for you. No I’m not employed by Avid and Ableton is my favorite. Just read comments like mine when I was deep into Studio One Pro videos and found out why.

As a Studio One fan I have to say drums still hit harder in FL because it's samplers have all the pro stretches in them. Sample One doesn't have Elastic Pro or nothing else just the audio tracks. Also, the step sequencer is hardwired to the piano roll still makes it king.

Nothing against Studio One...but Ableton was literally made and boasts the king of what you were doing in this video. And it does it faster and more acurate, more tone correct.

@BoloDaProducer I love your videos bro...I've seen quite a few. Aside from FL studio (I dont own a mac, so skip those others) Is Studio One in wide spread use? I mean, how often will I come across another producer using it? (Genuine question) And as an Ableton Live Suite user, do you think I would benefit getting it so collabs are easier? (Not sure if my babbling ass is makin any sense here.)

So after months of testing, reading articles and so on, I can confirm Studio One still has serious midi jitter issues. What you play is not really what is being recorded.I've run many tests, with other audio interfaces, DAWs, computers, equipment, versions of Studio One. I have even done some clean windows installations, but nothing seems to fix it, so I can only say that Studio One is at fault. I have played drums and piano parts, arps and sequencer and the Atom, but no matter what you do, the MIDI notes ALWAYS have MIDI jitter. Some notes are recorded perfectly (a few of them actually), some ohters have midi jitter, placed here and there in a confusing way.I have gone through many tests with collaborators, even programmers and technicians (we even changed settings in the BIOS, system drivers..) but we were not able to fix it for good. There is no solution to this problem. Presonus Studio is a CRAPPY Midi DAW, terrible.

Studio one lags totally in content stuff and it´s onstock effects and synth are boring and flat as hell... So sad. Cubase in these days does this way better, I must say.
