    Yeah! Especially for international students :( A lot of Masters do offer CSP funding which is great tho! My total HECS debt for undergrad and masters will be around $35,000 (~$26,000 Undergrad + $9000 Masters) which is pretty decent. However, I'm three years behind my peers who completed a three-year degree and get into the workforce straight away :') I'm still happy to invest my time into a rewarding career tho, so its worth it for me :)

    Thank you so much for making these videos!! Your vids has helped me a lot, thank you :)

  • @yash9801

    @yash9801

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you so much Macarena, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! This is going to be a long answer so feel free to ask any questions if something doesn't make sense. I think the first distinction to make is the difference between a diploma and a bachelor's degree. The arts diploma is designed to help students transition into a bachelor's degree at Monash. Therefore you might as well try to get into a Bachelor's degree from the start (whether that be a bachelor of arts, science or psychology (honours). This will not only save you time but also money! From here you need to decide if you want to do the psychology (honours) degree [www.monash.edu/study/courses/find-a-course/2021/psychology-m3005?domestic=true] or complete an APAC accredited psychology major within your arts degree [www.monash.edu/study/courses/find-a-course/2021/arts-a2000?domestic=true ]. If you're set on psychology, I recommend the bachelor of psychology (honours) degree as the grade requirement to get into honours (4th year psychology) is lower than if you did an arts or science bachelor's degree. You can have a look at pathways to becoming a psychologist here: www.psychologycouncil.org.au/pathways_registration_psychologist

  • @yash9801

    @yash9801

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Jahanvi! I'm glad this helped you out :) Choosing a uni can be so overwhelming, but to answer your question: there is not really a best uni academic wise per se. Once you get into the workforce, it's more about what experience you have rather than the prestige of your university. The deciding factors would likely be the cost of the degree and whether you are eligible for any scholarships! You'll need to double-check which universities have the course you want (For example, Monash doesn't offer a Masters's in clinical psychology). And yes you could do your honours at Monash, given that you meet the grade and requisite requirement. Feel free to ask me more questions :)

  • @yash9801

    @yash9801

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey A M! Congrats on graduating highschool! As long as the degree you enroll in is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council Limited (APAC), then you will be able to practice as a psychologist in Australia! I know Monash has a Malaysia Campus, so it could be worth looking into a B.Psych/ Arts/ Science Degree over there. However, I would suggest getting in contact with Monash Malaysia Campus to double-check before you enroll! In terms of getting a job as a psychologist, you will need to complete a master's degree first. Most universities in Aus reserve a few spots for international students. I believe securing that master's spot is the most difficult part. I have not had experience applying for psychology jobs as I just finished my bachelor's, so I can't comment on that too much! Sorry for the long answer but I hope this helps and feel free to ask me any other questions!

    Hi Rach, I am also still not very good at maths, but when it's placed into teh context of psychology or a project you are interested in - you begin to appreciate it a little bit. I know it's hard, but try to see it as a tool that will help you understand more about psychology, as opposed to a subject. It's good to know your area of weakness so you can make sure to set aside enough time to really understand the material and make sure you ask for help! That's what your tutors and lecturers are there for! Good luck :)

  • @yash9801

    Hey Melisa! This is definitely a tricky question as there are two sides to the coin. Monash Psych expects a very high standard of work for D and HD marks, which can often be discouraging. Unfortunately, feedback is often minimal, so understanding how you can improve for the next assignment can often seem impossible. For me, I looked to external resources (e.g., reading high-quality research papers) to understand how to write a good paper rather than relying on my tutor's comments. Sometimes there can be inconsistencies between tutors' instructions, but along as you do what YOUR tutor wants you will be fine. Psych forces you to do A LOT of self-learning which is annoying, yet the best way to learn. Overall I enjoyed the challenge and it pushes you to produce work you didn't think you were capable of! Let me know if this answered your question/ have any more questions :)

    @@yash9801 yes thank you that really helped! i was just deciding whether to do psych at monash or melb uni through the bach of arts after hearing all the negativity surrounding monash. what sort of stuff do you learn and do most of the assignments require you to write papers? also do you know if this course will allow me to go into forensic psychology in the future or is it just mainly toward clinical psych and neuropsych. thanks :)

    @@mel4065 No worries :) I had to make the exact same decision as well! I chose Monash for two reasons. 1) Physically closer to me 2) The B.psych has a guaranteed entree into honours if you achieve a 70% average in your 3rd-year core subjects, compared to other unis which did not have that. I'm not too sure what Melbourne is like in comparison to Monash, but either way, they are both highly regarded (although that doesn't really matter in the job world). You have lecturers throughout the year which teach you just straight content and then you have tutorials that help you with your assignments. The content of your assignments aren't all explained by your lecture so you need to always do additional research by looking at journal articles. Luckily you don't have to write an actual journal article for assignments, but you do lab reports, lit reviews, case studies etc ( maybe ill make a video on this haha ). The job opportunities lie in clinical psychology whereas forensic and neuro-psych aren't as high! Although this could change, it's been the trajectory for some time!

    @@yash9801 yes, i was struggling because monash is further from me but the guaranteed entree into honours is the main reason im leaning towards it! you say that not everything is explained by the lectures so do you think that it will be a struggle to keep up? and yess you should definiately do more videos about this!! also are you going into your honours year this year and are you planning to do your masters as well? i just thought that neuro psych was also an option as well as i saw that you could get a 'doctor of psychology in clinical nueropsychology (DPsych (ClinNeuro))' in your postgraduate degree. do you mean that the job opportunities for neuropsych and forensic psych are not as high? but do you think they will still be an option if i do this course (i havent decided what type of psychologist i want to be and want to see if they can still be an option). thanks! sorry for bombarding you with questions haha:)

I will be studying full time for the 1st year/semester then transit to a Part-time basis. I would like to find some volunteer or part-time jobs later next year so gain some practical experience. If you go into a straight psychology degree as opposed to a general science or arts degree, it tends to be more complex. I wasn't able to do exchange for this reason sadly :( Doing a master's degree overseas may be difficult if you want to practice in Aus in the future. The requirements to becoming a psychologist significantly vary between the US and AUS! Definatley try to volunteer as much as you can in first - third year! It gets pretty hard to do this in fourth year :)

    Hey! I got an equity and community leaders scholarship as an undergrad student! I'm a domestic student and have CSP-funded courses that go on HECS, so it is not as financially stressful for me.

    I don’t think it matter where you go, employers don’t really care about that. They care more about your experience and why you want to do psychology! I’m thinking of making a video comparing courses shortly, so keep and eye out for those :)

    🤣 Student loans is the biggest cash grab for the Government. Some smartass in Government just made it expensive 1 day. It's not just honours for the students....it's honours to the Government aswell

    It sure is expensive! Especially for international students. However, since psychology is such a growing field, most masters have CSP funded places which is amazing! For example, mine costs $9000 for two years which includes great teaching staff, placements, clinic staff to help me, partnerships with the community etc! But without a csp place, things start to get a bit exy !!

    @Yash Jay I'm a highschool Drop-out. My Resume is only worth $30hr with me being a Employee. When I'm running my Businesses. I earn average $70-$100hr. I am aware that to be compliant with some fields...a Certificate is needed. But it's sad sometimes meeting people that are paying off a Highly Educated Course. That only get the same rate as me. It's sad to see

    Governments want everyone to be a Employee if they migrate.. So Yes. Paying for a Employee Study is compulsory. Great tool people to pay tax
