    what she didn't tell you is that they're low paying. Don't just take other people's word for it. Go on indeed & search the jobs for yourself. Also the reputation of your school doesn't matter to employers. What they want is skill and psychology is too general to be applicable to most jobs hence why a lot of psych majors struggle to get hired after school. You better just get a master's if you really wanna stay in psychology.

    Psych student here. I can absolutely relate because I felt this way before I found some career path ideas that I want to go into. If you are still discouraged by Psych but still want to go through with the degree and do something that you can get hired after university, then I suggest you doing a double major if it is possible. Some majors that can help are: - Informatics - Information Systems - Computer Science*( in some instances people say that it is oversaturated and doesn't help much in finding you a job with just an undergrad) -- Statistics - Maths - Geography( mainly for the GIS system analysis stuff that is in-demand and if you want to go into environmental/ sustainability consulting) , -- - - Economics ( it's a very good field for helping you to land a high-paying job with your undergrad) -Chemistry ( if you want to work in a lab ). - Data science There are more good majors but these are the ones that I know of * I also would suggest doing some qualifications in "Management" (i.e. project management, HR management if you are on the HR side of things or anything that has management in it that is related to the field that you are looking to work in) , Data analysis because it is an in-demand skill as well as any other tech-related skill or even something to do in QA testing NB: @Notmyname979 Psych isn't inherently useless because it does give you the soft skills and cross-cultural competencies that employers are looking for. However, it's not a good major to take on its own because it will be hard to find a well-paying future proof, AI proof and recession proof job out of undergraduate without some serious networking or getting additional qualifications. However, if it is done as part of a double major degree, especially if the second major is a well-chosen one, then it really can help an applicant stand out. Plus I think having as much information as possible about one's options can never be unimportant. And the advantages of a double major have been spoken about in financial media forums like Forbes. Which was why I was giving OP some ideas on how to do this in a realistic and sensible way should she still want to keep the Psych major, but also should she want to double major or look at some courses to take as credits to be able to apply to med / vet school or pivot to the more STEM-based careers or even look at some major options that do people can get jobs after college/ university when taken as standalone majors.

    @@medusavee8649 so basically the psych part of her degree is still useless? Employers will hire her based on these degrees, so why bother spending extra time & money to take psych classes at all? Why not just change majors entirely?

  • @Notmyname979

    @Notmyname979

    25 күн бұрын

    Girl, I'mma tell you rn, you better just change your major. Psych is only good paying at the master & doctorate level. Think about what it is you like about psychology & then try to find another industry that uses those skills (like nursing or healthcare for example). The best thing you can do is look at job postings on indeed or linkedin & shadow some people. That way you'll know exactly what job titles you wanna do & then can go to school accordingly.

  • @medusavee8649

    @medusavee8649

    24 күн бұрын

    @@Notmyname979 I was just trying to give some options of how one can take Psych as a major but in a realistic way, which is if you are double majoring and if you choose a second major that can get you into the in-demand fields in the job market or that can help you get a well-paying future-proof, recession-proof and AI-proof job straight out of college as well as having the foundation to apply for graduate school should you wish to apply to graduate school programs not only in psychology and neuroscience, but also programs like law, data science, epidemiology and even certain medical or biomedical programs if or the right major. I don't think that Psychology is inherently useless major given it does teach one research skills and shows that you care somewhat about ethics and cross-cultural competencies, any other soft skills that employers are looking for., and that it goes well with another major The issue is that you cannot find a job with it alone on an undergraduate level ( without having do to some course in data analytics or Project or HR management or any thing with management in conjunction with some serious networking ) and you would need to go to a postgraduate level But of course, if this isn't suitable option then the best thing would be to change majors But don't dismiss something unnecessarily. There's nothing wrong with highlighting as many options as possible for one as long as it is still reality-based and sensible. And that was what I was trying to do, if OP still wanted to keep Psychology as a major but also make sure that she does it in a way to get a job after university.

  • @medusavee8649

    @medusavee8649

    Edit: But if you are completely done with Psych and it is not for you, here are some other options. If you are very healthcare minded or about helping people and that was the reason for you studying Psych, then here are some careers that you could look into in terms of changing your major ( that I think are in-demand ) - Speech- language Pathology - Audiology ( You can be both a speech language pathologist and an audiologist) - Occupational therapy - Other healthcare careers where you can start working after getting your qualifications and registering with the necessary medical organisations like radiology technician, dental hygienist, medical laboratory technician or technologist/ scientist and many more

    I live in California and I couldn't find anything to do with my bachelor's in psychology. I am job to job. Master degrees are definitely a requirement here in California. I think I will go to graduate school for social work and if not maybe move to a state where their are less competitive requirements. State jobs are hard to get too. You need to be bilingual and experienced. Plus black peoples applications are discriminated as well.
