@@adamkiley100 Initially I thought his arguments were as well but if you look at it he's just stating the obvious very directly with his first few points, things that almost everyone in society believes. It's just that once they're stated aloud they sound silly, especially to vegans. I think that actually shows honesty, he didn't try to make up a great point to defend his opinion in a defensive manner. He simply stated what he believed openly and that openness led to him actually realizing that things ultimately didn't add up and so he openly recognized it as well. I think he was just being really open.

@@bruhguy4215 English seems to be his second language and he did well. He recognized good points and questions from Ed and did not try to make a bunch of stupid excuses. In many ways, he's smarter than most meat-eaters I talk to.

Huge respect to the guy. As soon as he was asked if what we do to animals is necessary, he knew he had no argument and followed Ed to the logical conclusion. No ego at all.

It took a 10 minute conversation with Ed to recognise, re-evalute, and readjust his life choices and beliefs. What a champ

Plus they have to be transported, transport = polution = animals dying. Let's talk about food, do you vegans grow your own food? Quite unlikely, at least not for 99% of you. Of course you do. Petrol extraction and use is responsible for the killing of many animals. The ability of this guy to just have a conversation, give his best answer based on his current level of awareness, and thoughtfully consider the responses without getting defensive almost seems unreal. I understand how hard it is to be faced with what feels like such an insurmountable change and the fact that he was able to consider this so quickly and easily is admirable. I wish more conversations ended like ths.

Can you tell me about how it is being vegan in Japan (I’m assuming that’s where you live)- I’m Japanese American, have never been to Japan but really really want to (learning the language and all), but I haven’t heard too much positives on japans non animal foods, also most Japanese cuisine in the west is highly meat focused (sushi, ramen) but yeah, would love if you have any insight…! Actually I’m going to Japan this summer I just remembered! ^_^

You're unlikely to understand it anyway: Ordering a steak is a totally different order of magnitude to eating avocados. And avocados can be homegrown, organically grown, or grown by vegans in a way outside of PM's field of vision. You agree with PM because you're a fanboy and you eat meat. Piers is plain wrong. HE'S the hypocrite, and so are you. Do you even know the true meaning of hypocrisy? Let me explain in clear terms. John is a bank robber who did a heist and got $10,000. He says to Paul that Paul did the wrong thing when he had travelled 5KM from the supermarket and realized he'd forgotten to pay for a newspaper ($1.50) that Paul had carelessly put in his bag on the way out, meaning to pay. Paul was too lazy to turn back to the supermarket. If you can visualize that through your meat-lover's pizza brain, this is hypocrisy, because John committed the huge wrong and criticizes Paul for a tiny "theft". If Paul criticized John, sure, Paul isn't perfect, but to call Paul a hypocrite is so far-fetched that it's just plain ridiculous. Additionally, John does engage in petty theft as well, including $1.50 newspapers. This analogy is, in my opinion, an accurate representation of what Piers Morgan is trying to do. I've taken the time to demonstrate to you that the vegan woman in this video is NOT a hypocrite, and that Piers Morgan is. Reply all you like, but I'm a 50-year-old man who was a non-vegan for 47 years and made the switch after much painful consideration. Whatever your credentials are, there's no way I'm switching back to exploiting animals by proxy.

Please since you're so smart, how many vegan grow their veggies / fruits? 50% 20% 10%, less than 1% Do you grow you own veggies? Do you know how many insectes, butterflies, birds, rodants can destroy a garden? I mentioned internet / clothing manufacturing / transport / heat coz they are responsible of Co2 émission which leads to global warming and species disappearing. What a wonderful guy! Aside from his general openness and deciding to give veganism a go (fantastic!), I also simply liked the way he responded to each question so concisely. Like when asked a 'yes' or 'no' question, he simply responded 'yes' or 'no'. Made me smile every time. No elaborating, justifying anything or making unnecessary noise until asked to. I love that. Wish I could do it more myself.

Ed gets it, none of these conversations are combative, he shows empathy and helps people lower their guard to really allow them to understand their clear cognitive dissonance people have, it’s such great work. It actually convinced me to go vegan from vegetarian

of course you dont know. the only thing you know is that you yourself are sentient. you dont even know that anyone else is sentient, much less a shrimp. the reason im vegan is bc there's so much uncertainty. say i think there's a 50% chance shrimp are sentient. if i eat a dinner with 10 shrimp, its as good as knowingly killing 5 sentient beings. obviously it would be better just to eat something else. (cumin stewed chickpeas are pretty cool :) veganism isnt about operating with certainty, its about doing the best we can with the uncertainty we have. we can be pretty confident we shouldnt stab chickens in the throat. we cant be 100% confident, but that doesn't give us permission to do it

@Ben wtf? Yes, we do know that most non-human animals are sentient(insects, lizards, dogs). I'm not talking about self-awareness... We know what makes something sentient. Science has shown time and time again that we're not the only animals with the ability to feel pain, suffer, or feel happiness. I'm not vegan because sentien pigs might be suffering in gas chambers. I'm vegan because sentient pigs ARE suffering in a gas chamber. It's that simple.

Yes, if I knew as a teen I would be a vegan I wouldn't believe it. I had vegetarians all around me and thought they were boring, crazy, mad ect. I loved meat. Dairy (except cheese) was easy to quit because I never liked it and eggs kinda disgusted me anyway (but I baked alot so I thought I needed them). Therefor I know how you can really change, because I was a real "meaty" once and didn't care much, or I didn't want to think about it, because it was "to good"... But once I really saw it, there was no going back. And thankfully so ❤️

I got so emotional by the end. I’m just so happy to know there’s people like Terrace, who can listen and accept they’ve been acting by tradition on something that is wrong and they can change their habits on camera. Also loved, as per usual, the way Ed managed the conversation, but it truly amused me his face at the end, he couldn’t believe it!

I love that he just admits that he’s so used to viewing some animals as food but acknowledges that that makes no sense and is horribly flawed. Good on him. So many people will deny deny deny. Wow. This guy took the leap a lot faster than I did. Took years of debate with myself and ignoring my reasoning before I went vegan, it only took him 10 minutes! I wish all the best for him. Amazing. For this guy it did not seem to have anything to do with emotion. It seemed purely cognitive, deductive and logical. And what followed was what you would expect but usually never get. He actually said he would be vegan. I never thought I would see it tbh. It's mind boggling really, the different ways different people perceive the world. I am still convinced that the best way to convince the masses is by showing them the horrors up close and play the emotion card. But that does not seem to be always the case.

Can totally confirm! I went vegan bc of logic. And then I tried to convince my best friend to go vegan with logical arguments for two years, as I thought it was the most effective way (because it had this effect on me). But one day I sent her a video of a pig being tortured ; she was horrified and reduced her meat consumption instantly. I was so surprised (and glad) ! But now, an other friend told me that what he liked about my veganism is that I only shared with him facts and logical arguments. And that is the reason why he's currently trying to go vegan. I think it's very important to understand people in the first place.

Some people are more logical and some emotional, or like me a bit of both. It is the same with socialism, some might say: "it is only logic that we should treat everyone with respect", and some might say: "can't you see how hurt this person is, we should all care for each other", and then there are those who think they are better than each other and couldn't care less about other humen and think it is rational that because they are more educated and all they are better and more deserving than all those with too much emotions and only destroys for themselves...

One of the most impressive examples of the Socratic method by Ed. I'm going to watch this a bunch of times. This is what I want my activism to look like 🌱💖

This is a truly wholesome conversation. He shares is point of view, recognizes its flaws and incoherences and in the end is actually humble enough to give in and receive recommendations about veganism. Well done, Ed. We are all grateful for your activism.

Every vegan should have only 1 reason - to not participate in animal suffering. That's what veganism is all about - not climate change or losing weight, etc. But there is a karmic bonus -- fantastic health from eating whole garden foods loaded with nutrients that prevent disease and not feeling like a hypocrite. True, but the communication should depend on the context. For example, the first documentary I sent to my dad on the topic was ‘What The Health’, because nutrition is something we would talk about often, and he grew up in a family that raised their own chickens and killed them themselves, so he’s not very sensitive towards animals. Of course, he didn’t go vegan, but he reduced his red meat consumption a lot and saw a good point on why would someone decide to ditch it entirely; he has progressively become more open to that idea. A friend of mine just started a plant-based diet for the environment, and I started just like her. I bet she will eventually realize that the impact her diet has is much more than that. I agree, though, that when we’re talking about it with a stranger or someone we don’t know well, we all should advocate for animals first just as Ed does, he will only bring the environmental arguments when people address that topic, and then he goes back to morals.

I think 3 years back I was in the same position as this guy, I hadn't even considered these basic questions like they didn't even occur to me until they were presented to me. I think that is how social norms shape your mentality.

Did not expect such clarity of thought and critical thinking abilities from a college student at all. Loved the way he listened to the questions and answered precisely.

You know this guy is a lot more reflective and honest than many of the Ivy League people he interviewed Cool guy who’s willing to have his ideas and beliefs challenged and on camera amazing

I love this student’s deadpan honesty. Most people do backflips to try to get around these uncomfortable truths.

3 years today I became vegan after watching your video on how you changed your life. Love the vids and thank you for all the knowledge that I've learned over the years, thanks ed.

This guy is the absolute coolest interviewee I've EVER SEEN in one of these conversations. It makes me realize how rare it is for someone to be not only logical, but willing to answer truthfully regardless of where it leads. Especially the part about, "Do you and I need to eat meat." I don't think I've EVER seen someone acknowledge that a need and a want are different things, at least in this context

I love his modesty and how this guy accept how he might be wrong so easily and revaluate his life choices. awesome work Ed!

He has the aura of a monk: Actually contemplative every time a question is asked, there isn't any ego / self-importance / argumentation in his responses, he actually tries to consider the PoV of others & animals. This is the type of person who'll go far in life, because he has 'intellectual humility', wants to understand, and as able to unlearn & relearn information unlike many who are stubborn about new / objective information. Good lad.

That intro says it all. This man seems pretty intelligent and self aware. I think he's a pretty good candidate to join the vegan movement for sure. Great job Ed!

The bottom line though is me making a sacrifice and giving up animals when non are saved is pointless, you can have as many conversations as you like the fact is my taste is far more important than any farm animal ,and while it's a honour to eat such glorious products ,the animals should feel greatly honoured they are serving my taste needs

You’ve post over 1k comments on Eds channel which is nice to see because its an algorithm boost which helps the victims see a broader audience. You think suffering is okay for a meal and act like anyone wants to live and die because of it. Pleasure is never a justification for harming others. I guess it probably doesn’t matter to you that humans suffer as well as a result.

I shot 3 kangaroos the other day and cut them up and took them to a small aboriginal community near me, super healthy lean Roo meat feed a lot of kids and elders made them happy also enough for me and my dogs , and I helped the environment, the animals eco system all with 5 bullets , a knife and a few spare hrs. More productivity than a vegan commenting on yoytube

wow this was so touching. I almost cried when he said yes. People are usually so negative and aggressive about their view on why eating animals is ok. But he actually self-reflected and allowed himself to be wrong. Not many people are able to do that. Thank you Ed for changing the world, day in, day out. You are truly an angel.

Hey don't do it. Veganism is bad, you will only hurt yourself. And anyways I am an adult at 30 and I will tell you that this Asian kid is kind of slow. Just because someone goes to college doesn't mean they are smart, it's all about being able to retain tons of information. College only means that and you can get taught a Trade to use in the real world to get this economy to keep running

It's easier to see what's different in other people than to see it within ourselves. How about the beliefs and lifestyle taught while growing up? The food parents/guardians fed us as kids? That is also blindly following what was taught. Having compassion and understanding for those who are unaware they are causing harm when eating animals is so key to helping people stop eating meat. That's how I stopped and became vegan.

It doesn´t blow my mind at all. For the majority of my life I consumed animal products. From young age it is taught to us, that animals are made so we could exploit them. Only if you question what you do regularly you can change your behaviour. And this is not easy. I´m 100 % certain that you still do things today, that you or your children will question in the future. [non native speaker, please point out mistakes]

Nobody is perfect. If we were to wait for a perfect person to come along and inspire change, there would never be progress. It is not hypocrisy to want a better world for oneself or others while also living imperfectly. Though, it *would* be hypocritical to argue for progress while placing the full responsibility of change onto others but taking no personal responsibility for one's own behavior, beliefs, or actions. Victims of injustice don't care if those who rescue them are not perfect. Don't be perfect. Just do better.
