Freedom of expression is freedom of expression. If kids in school in NYC can walk around with pride flag everything then kids in Mississippi can walk around with their confederate crap. Banning them from doing so isn’t changing any minds, it’s just going to breed resentment. Maybe this girl should try to get to know her classmates and talk to them.

that kid's style is hideous. her stance is fair, but i believe that flying the confederate flag is an issue of freedom of speech. it shall never stop being an issue. my stance is with the confederate flag, but not with racist intent. and it seems this girl implied that the swastika and the confederate flag have been flown as hate symbols for hundreds of years. not every time the confederate flag was flown was in hurtful intent.

Confederacy existed for less time than Nazi Germany did, it only ever stood for preservation of slavery by treason and post-war it stood for white supremacy in the South. Many other southern and state symbols that actually involve non-racist parts of heritage, especially in West Virginia which was a free-state and didn't join the confederacy

I was born in West Virginia. This is particularly sad because West Virginia left Virginia because we did not want to be part of those slave owning sob's in Virginia. Flying the southern battle flag is offensive to any true West Virginian.

WV wanting to secede from VA has been going on since America’s inception. WV had very little slave owners due to climate and BACK THEN property and slaves were a “status” which WV did not have. So with that they had no voice in government at all
