I feel like I been stuck at the 20-25k mark since I had the damn loans. I paid off two during the pandemic and I’m about to finish a third one and Idk why the heck I’m still seeing $20k smh.
I can't believe the interest on these loans! Corporations get government loans at .5% but students at 7.2% smh

That’s why the US is viewed as the big dumb jock country.
The interest is the most trifling part of this ish!! Like, why not just require payments and not bring back the interest?! it makes NO sense!!
I’ve checked my account every week this month, I know I shouldn’t but I can’t help it. Everytime I see the interest that has accrued, my blood pressure spikes. It’s eating up the progress I made on paying my loans down. 😢 the SAVE plan is a joke, America is ghetto!

The SAVE plan doesn't go into effect until next year. Then, on SAVE loans, interest won't accrue.
OMG same! Ive been paying for almost 10 years, extra during the past 3 years, and this was the first month I decided not to pay because I wanted to be outside instead lol. Felt good! They will get their money when they require payments next month lol live a little!!

It felt so nice to spend a little on myself ☺️💛 glad I’m not alone in that!
I paid of 26,000 of student loans on august 22. I honestly don’t feel much bc I graduated in 2022 and that was my first payment. Qualified for 20k of forgiveness but it’s ok. Now debt free working on buying a condo in expensive ass NYC
I paid mine off at the end of August! I’ve gotten 2 part time jobs this year solely dedicated to paying off debt. Part time income definitely got me where I needed to be.
The interest has meeeeeeeee stressed!!! I pay every two weeks! I’m tired

The interest is my arch nemesis at this point 😩
Sis i watched every commercial to help with those loans! I made my last payment the month before the pandemic hit! When I did the look back of principle vs interest i had paid more in interest than what was originally borrowed. Now mind you I paid my loans off in 12 years 😑. We have to better prepare people for this system because I'm not going to say it wasn't helpful but had I known in the beginning I should have been paying from day one. What i paid in the end would have been so much less. Keep your head up you got this!

Thank you boo for all of the support! I sadly know so many people who’s interest is higher than the original amount borrowed smh. But I’m glad you’re all finished with that 💛
God bless everyone with deep debt.
Thank you for sharing such a raw side to student loan journey. I've worked out with my husband a game plan and we feel super optimistic about our light at the end of the tunnel even while accounting for interest!
Just wanted to share that Ive been keeping up with every update and that I have paid off my SLs as of the first week of this month
I've not been able to pay. Still dunno how I will get through this. Co-vid hit me hard. Brutally hard. Praying hard this month.
My heart goes out to anyone who still have student loans…I’m in the process of paying off my mortgage and becoming debt free 100%
“I was outside” 😆 I couldn’t help but chuckle. I appreciate your insight and I know the up and down emotions of going from feeling determined to overwhelmed by having these loans! Speaking for myself, I can say that I’m feeling a lot better and I hope you get there too! I’ve paid it down from 37k all the way to 10k. My interest went from $180/month to $30/month. I Can see the forest through the trees and I should be done in 1.5-2years!
You got this Stephanie!!! I requested a refund of my student loans for the (now failed) forgiveness. I mentally prepared myself to give the money back but it still hurt chile 😂. I paid it back beginning of September to be done with my loans for good and not give them one more penny! Ugh I wish everyone so much luck with their repayment journeys! Two side notes: I recently came back from Germany and met a class action lawyer from Australia also visiting and her total student loans was $25k (they have 4 years undergrad plus 1 year apprenticeship to become a lawyer there). And we all know Germany was living wreckless before the turn of the century lol but it’s in their law for their history to be taught in schools. One thing I could say, they didn’t try to erase their past like we do here. America can learn a few things!
Love all your content and I particularly love this series. It’s so honest and so relatable.
Thanks for this, just finally set up the save program $0/mo
Thank you so much. You make me face my student loans. I did not even know about the interest tool. We got this girl
I really feel for you! I also kept making payments throughout the pandemic. Now I have 29k left and it’s just principal, no interest. My plan is to continue to pay monthly but also save (over half way there already) so I can write one check and be done. I hope you get a nice 6-figure brand partnership or money opportunity that will help you pay it off in one check. Love your content. ❤ sometimes I can’t face the reality of student loans but you’re videos make it easier 🥺✊🏾
Wow girl thats alot of student loan debt. I hold my heart. When you show how much you have left to pay. God bless you

Hi! Excited to watch the student loan refinancing video!
Ggguuuurrrrrrrllllll the anxiety is real. I’m currently working my corporate job and working at Walmart. I need these things gone 79k to go
Subscribed. I’m freaking out right now. I’ll be making my very first payment to my debt this month. I’ve “out of sight, out of mind” this debt since graduation last year and prayed that loan forgiveness bill was going to pass but of course it didn’t and I kept avoiding the emails, phone calls, and text message about my debt. Reality hit when I actually got the bill in my mailbox with a due date. Now I can’t ignore this.
Hey Girllllllll!!!! The interest is giving anxiety! Update for people who don’t know my SL journey….my starting balance with the interest was $176,667.87 in October 2021 and I have it down to $66,576.32 because they have started interest again😤 I am also pausing a bit because my husband and I are expecting our first baby.❤ Good luck to everyone as we keep on this journey!!!

SN: love the look in this video!😊You can do it Stephanie (we hope sooner than later). You are encouraging so many people. I finally paid all of my loans off this year!!! ❤Sending out positive vibes to everyone who's still working on being student loan free! I'm hoping in the future there will be a forgiveness plan.
I sent you $5 by subscribing to your patreon. I know it’s not a lot but I’m broke and it’s all I could spare. I hope you use it to pay off your loans, you really deserve it. Your content is awesome and I appreciate you as someone who wants to also be a lawyer.
Thank you for sharing
I received PSLF loan forgiveness in April 2023 after working in non-profits for over 20 years (10 more years than I was required to for the program). This is the first time in 27 years that I have been without student loans! My anxiety IMMEDIATELY decreased after getting my official payoff letter. I refuse to calculate how much total interest I paid because high blood pressure kills. I tell everyone I know has student loans to apply for PSLF or any other program you may qualify for. I was pessimistic when the Biden Admin announced changes to what had been a very mis-managed program but submitted my paperwork anyway. I can testify that sometimes our government does do right by us members of the middle class.
Thank you for the video 😊😊😊
Remember, the SAVE plan eliminates your interest. I would not refinance at all. Also, your payments are based on your AGI not your gross income. Many people who think they don’t qualify due to income are using their gross when they would actually qualify using their discretionary income.
Glad to be watching your contents again, I have been MIA working my behind off and was not outside this summer like y'all (I missed out) hahaha. Girllll, these people are scammers for making us pay interest on top of payments in this trifling inflating economy. I still have 74K left to pay and a good 25-30k of that is interest from the last almost 10 years🥲🥲🥲. I felt good with paying more these past few months but it's like I have barely paid with how fast my interest is accruing. At this point, I would have to pay like $3-4000/ month to pay it off in three years without any savings or sunshine in my life hahaha. Lord help us all because America is trifling and ghetto for this nonsense, we don't even get paid enough to feed ourselves before talking about paying extra on student loans😮💨😮💨😮💨. Imma just pay what I can when I can because I aint bringing my BP up, I also need to live and enjoy my 30s. Always love your outfits and accessories!!!
Hello. Looking at refinancing as well. Currently at 5.75% but hoping I can get a better rate. I’m in a better place to make payments now but want them done ASAP.
My student loans went to Navient and heartland and they didn’t pause my payments or interest during covid at all. I was so annoyed because they said it wasn’t covered under the freeze.
Sorry to hear about the 1 date late payment, that sucks! I've been in a similar place before with my CC payment when I was younger. 😪
I did the save plan because the 3 loans I have left had an original loan balance less than 12000.00 and under the save plan they would be forgiven after 10 years of payment.
Hi Stephanie! 👋🏾 Love your student loan content. Please consider devoting one video to student loan balance updates and student loan related topics. I am trying to compartmentalize my angst and book bans and student loan interest is a lot to take in one sitting.😅
The dress, earrings, and hair style are SO nice
Born and raised in the county of Dade😩
I started a second job last month and the additional money only covers the rise in cost of living...not this extra bill
2:52 "And 17 trifling cents." 😂
I grew up in 305 but it changed to 954 when i got into high school.......I think that still counts. 🙂
Imagine if the people who've been gainfully employed over the last 3 years continued to make their payments interest free? It's almost as if they could have significantly decreased the principle and taken years off of their student loan completion date. I guess some can dream...
Thanks!

Here’s my issue. I’m a veteran with a Permanent and Total Disability (P&T). I have NEVER requested a P&T discharge, but I DID request a discharge when Biden said we needed to apply for student loan forgiveness. Since then, the financial aid office has been requesting that I have my doctor fill out a form that says I’m no longer disabled. I talked to my VA doctor today. And here’s the issue: I have a P&T VA disability rating due to PTSD due to MST (military sexual trauma). I’m still in VA therapy for it. So, clearly, my VA doctor wasn’t willing to sign this paperwork because that would be fraud. However, I’m now on financial hold at my institution because of this. And they’d charging me for classes. They never said anything UNTIL AFTER the drop/add period. My doctor and VA social worker feel this is a violation of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). Again, they told me this AFTER the drop/add period and are withholding aid that has nothing to do with loans due to me not filling out this form. So now I feel stuck. Should I get a lawyer?
I was outside this summer too 😅.

It might be better to not refinance your loans and leave the federal system. Have you figured out your effective interest rate on the SAVE plan? I did rough calculations based on the $500/mth payment and got 3.7% interest. You know your AGI so can calculate what your monthly payment would be under SAVE. The SAVE plan already started, but there will be a few more benefits beginning next year. My understanding is that principal payments are allowed after the unpaid interest for that month is forgiven.
I got my text message regarding my student loan. Looks like there's no way to get around that debt. Therefore, I'll just pay it off. Great KZread content by the way
I was looking forward to only having 9 more payments and September dropping to 8. September was not counted torwards PSLF. So I am still stuck at 9 more months 😢! I have been counting them down!
PSLF = if your employer is government (federal, state, local or tribal), a non-profit ((501(c)(3) status).
The cruelty of telling not to pay at 0% only to reset interest much higher than original loan...
@EverElia
9 ай бұрын
Reset it higher? Wait what?
Why are they so resistant to allowing us to refinance at a lower interest rate. I’m accruing $1700 a month in interest alone. The audacity! 😢
@lionessrising
10 ай бұрын

You could have refinanced at a lower rate through the end of 2021. Peole were getting sub-3%. Interest rates are higher now, but that's for all loans, not just student loans.
Thanks for another great and informative video! I had some Stafford loans so I consolidated them with some of my federal loans in order to get them into the SAVE program. Would this prevent me from getting PSLF down the line?
Why are we even paying back our loans? I feel so angry about this
@lionessrising
10 ай бұрын
Because you took them out. As someone who paid off me, I’m have the Courts made that decision because I’m not interested in paying off yours. Why should the people who paid off the years or those who didn’t even go to college because they couldn’t afford it then turn around and pay off your responsibility? Entitled much.
So is the goal to make the monthly payment and then make another payment with the interest on top of that?
You're so strong and independent.
I just cracked upppp!!! Haha!! I’m from Carol City and facts - we don’t claim the rest of the state. And I have also been paying these loans since 2013 and throughout the pandemic and they won’t go awayyy 😩 I’ve purchased and paid off cars close to the amount of my loan ($36k) and after 10 years, I just hit a milestone on getting a little less than half way to being paid off. I used to make $500 payments only to see $19 of that actually hit principal. Fml
Honestly, we're back to the beginning with all of the loan programs. The interest rate was an issue years before Covid, and it is still a problem. The system is a big ponze scheme 😢
My servicer is MOHELA and they have the worst user interface and customer service.
Yes, ty I received forgiveness. It sucked paying on a degree I didn't even complete and was over charged for anyway! Anyway, it was pennies compared to yours but I'll take those trifling pennies. Lol
According to Mohela. I my consolidation after the pslf qualifying payment is updated in spring 2024 for me than I'd only have till October 2025 to reach forgiveness. Wish me luck and that the government doesn't retract the recalculation of my pslf qualifying payment after consolidation.
I have 6.5 years left with PSLF. No tax burden on forgiveness. Why would I work in the private sector??!?!! I ain’t giving up sis.
Wait i think you forgot one the about the SAVE plan that i recently found out. The interest does rack up, but as long as you make your monthly payment the government pays the interest! Hope you can see this.
I have 157 and 26 trifflin cents left to pay my student loan debt off.
Hi I love your videos. I have a question about refinancing student loans, if you could give me your opinion I would greatly appreciated it. I recently been let go of my job so I know I qualify for the zero payment save plan until 2024. My question is even though I’m not making payments now should I refinance to get a smaller interest rate or should I wait until 2024 when I start paying the loan back? thanks so much!
How come you didn't refinance them all when you did the last refinance? I thought about doing it and getting that 2.75 interest I got offered but didn't because of I thought I'd get them canceled 😢
I don't have the internet so I don't know how they are going to let me know about my student loan lol
My husband never got any information about when his federal loans are due or to whom. No email, no info on the federal website. Where exactly would we reach out to the department of education to figure this out?

When I checked my interest rates on my loans, I could have sworn, they increased my rates for a few of my higher loans. My highest is a 7.66% on a 41k loan 😭. So bogus that they increased the rates and I never got any notice about it.

Some of the interest rates are variable, which is absolutely wild 😫
I never got an email/notification from my loan provider but I login right now and see the amount due oct 28th....
I refinanced a few weeks ago, so they haven't get me any info yet.
I just found out that if I do the SAVE Plan for PSLF payment it will be $1000.00 a month. The online estimator said $500.00, but I was told $1000 over the phone with Mohela. Not cool at all. Bait & Switch,
Hi Stephanie, I love your content. Listen on Sunday in receive an email from my student loan services said I had no payment due for October… does it mean that my students loans has been canceled…. But when I check my balance my balance is still there$29k I don’t if my payment date has been push back
The government and cooperations want people to buy homes and rent apartment. But these housing payments going toward loans.
Hey gorgeous.. Something I noted in regards to SL is if you paid aggressively during 0 interest, you've pushed your payments back and won't owe in October. . With that said, if you stopped paying due to the promise of debt cancelation and thus still carry a balance, you should still make payments until your receeded due date. Pay all interest and continue chipping at the principle for a very low future bill (if any).
I studied to be an attorney in the UK. I choked out in debt 😂 but i paid it off. My mom's family is from bronx harlem and they're telling me in my ripe age of 36 to migrate from the C'bean to nyc to go corporate. I know i have to do Barbri. Do you have any advice?
They could easily help people by getting rid of the interest smh!
I'm good with the cancellation of the SAVE plan. I just don't feel like paying for someone else's dumbness.
Why are you refinancing? You’re gonna loose your federal protection. I was offered to refi a long time ago and intuitively I knew the federal government protection was better than any interest I could’ve saved. At least I was able to save for a rainy day. I sympathize with everyone with a large debt. I got a second BS ten years ago and I still have a little under 20k to go.
Just had to close my 401k because I was laid off and haven't been able to find a job that even pays half of what I was earning. Is there any program I can take advantage of to not have to pay back right now? I did send my first payment already. My good credit is quite literally the only thing I have to my name. I really cannot afford to have these student loans mess that up. I really thought Biden was going to help me out.

Every time you do your breakdowns I can't believe how much you've paid but yet how much you STILL have to pay. A young person out of college should not, by any measure, be saddled with any kind of debt, but the fact it can be that large. But that is the modus operandi of capitalist entrapment. There will come a day when you will be unshackled from this unjust burden, not of your making. You are headed in the right direction. You are doing the right thing, even though it's so unfair. God bless you (and I'm not even religious like that).
the way these MFs move is.. they are hellbent on making people feel demoralized-if they cared about you reducing the debt it would be 0%. i live in kkkanada and it's the same. good luck to everyone ❤️🔥
