Hello, Loved the video, it’s interesting to see people’s reaction to the tunnel on their 1st passage. It does get quite low. 31 minutes is my personal record but that time we were the only boat going South. Sorry for being pedantic but the junction at Hardings Wood (Kidsgrove) is with the Hall Green branch of the T&M. The Macclesfield joins that branch at Hall Green stop lock, 1.5 miles to the north. The T&M were paranoid, to say the least of other waterways joining their canal so built branches out to meet the newcomers and therefore able to charge ridiculously high tolls on them. The worst example of which is further down the canal at Middlewich where the 100yd Wardle Lock branch connects with the Shropshire Union’s Middlewich branch. Happy and safe cruising, Paul

Hi, Thank you for the information. We find the history of the canals fascinating. It is great to hear any stories behind the canals and how and why it all happened the way it did. We hope to explore the Macclesfield canal sometime in the near future 😊

The Macclesfield Canal is lovely, ever more dramatic scenery on the way North as you climb up to the shoulders of the Pennines. Bosley Locks have spectacular views, if the weather is in an obliging mood! Take care, Paul @@narrowboatemerald3558

Really scary ! I don't like things that bump and smoke in the dark. Glad everything turned out okay.

Got to say I was a little concerned. Especially with the burning smell. Thanks. We had no problems on our return journey 😊

I'm don't normally worry about things but it was a sudden what if... few minutes that does make you feel a bit panicky inside

Wow! That was a bit frightening. Did the second boat in front of you break down, resulting in the first boat (in front of you) pushing her out? Scary stuff. Glad you were all OK. Where you able to radio the CRT, assuming that there are radio communications set up inside the tunnel. Take Care.

Boat 3 broke down (overheated) we was boat 6. Not knowing what had happened was the most concerning. There wasn't any communication from anyone apart from the boat immediately in front . They had just picked theirs up from a hire company so we're novices. It would be useful if they gave you information of how to contact them in an emergency. But we was unaware of any... Just to sound your horn if anything happens and you need assistance.

@@narrowboatemerald3558 From what I have seen on other video of narrowboats going thru this tunnel, there are sever emergency exitx on the left, with stirs leading up. Did you consider or even see any of these emergency Exits lit up. Really glad everyone was fine in the end.

@@fp30e There aren't any air shafts in Harecastle Tunnel. That's why they have extractor fans, so would be surprised if there are emergency exits. We certainly didn't see any and wasn't briefed that there was in the safety checks

@@narrowboatemerald3558 Just been checking on line. It looks like I was thinking of the Standedge Tunnel. 3 1/2 miles of dark tunnel, with tunnels side by side for the railway.
