From kick-off , he passed the ball straight back to Pickford 😲From kick off ? The England captain ? I don't think I've ever seen that in a football match in my entire life .... He regularly underperforms in an England shirt . The rest of the team always carry him . But there he is , beside Jude (after the wonder goal ) milking all the plaudits , like HE did it all on his own . Whilst other more capable players are sitting on the bench . Laughable .

@@a.c.4732 Absolutely spot on. I'm a Spurs fan and he went missing in so many games. Its like playing with 10 men most of the time. What made his career was scoring all those goals playing in front of Mousa Dembele, Eriksen , Son and Dele Alli at their peak. He scored lots of goals in a great team and then suddenly everyone though he was world class. He isn't.

I want what these guys are smoking. I'm allot more relieved than happy. We've been terrible so far in this tournament with the easiest route to the final and let's make no mistake we could easily have been knocked out by now. We were literally seconds away from being knocked out by Slovakia when Jude pulls a rabbit out the hat, and today's result really could've gone either way. Disagree with Pearce saying at 75 mins the game wasn't calling out for a change because everyone was doing well enough and that we were "playing with fluency"...no we bloody weren't, at that point we were under the cosh from Switzerland and changes were needed 15 mins earlier. Kane had to come off after 60 mins, and yet again the game was crying out for Anthony Gordon as well as Palmer to come on much earlier than he did

Apparently once you get to the quarter final stage there is a media embargo on criticising the national team. Apparently playing the same players in the same formation albeit with a 'false' back three. With much the same level of performance. And scraping through to the semis is something to be lauded. With the calibre of players available to England they should have been through comfortably in normal time, but apparently the Swiss are now world beaters. There was a period of play just before half time where England dominated posession, but it was passing mainly sidways and backwards and occasionally forwards. With a pause between passes to look around, as the opposition weren't pressing.

Not nit-picking, just correcting you. Greavsie was actually fit again for the final but Ramsey picked Hurst instead for tactical reasons. He had better aerial ability, he linked better with West Ham team-mates Moore & Peters and Greaves was well known to the Germans whereas Hurst wasn't. This, plus his decision to put Charlton man marking Beckenbaur, was a tactical masterstroke. Southgate needs to be as bold as Ramsey. 👍👍

Toney should play but he needs to also play deep with pace to help with link up play. Not sure if he is great in tight spaces or able to run at defenders with intelligent ball control. In short, we need Toney to run about with more authority than Kane has thus far.

Can we talk.about starting Watkins or Toney instead of Kane against the Netherlands, he lacks pace and his anticipation is off key, he needs his anticipation and awareness to overcome his lack of pace and therefore was in the the wrong place for two of sakas crosses in the box, he also plays too deep, which he does well but a striker should be a threat which he has not been and we need pace up to keep up with play when needed and need someone with pace to run on to long balls

And he has white on the overlap So I think really it wasn’t wrong to call for a change there but Walker and Kane were making saka look bad. All he could do was turn inside then pass sideways or backwards

@@mm89coyr - no one has been great. Guehi has been very good. Mainoo and Saka have been good and consistent. Rice is doing a job. If Gordon or another Non Foden threat were on the left, the field would be stretched and Saka could have been more effective. The same goes for Kane and Bellingham arriving late in the box. As you said, Jesus makes those runs. That means Eng could have modeled their line up like City, ARS or REAL. That means making the hard choice of playing only 1 #10. Trippier is solid on the right and has experience but he's not going to expose anyone moving forward.

This was a radically better performance. The pressing especially in the first half simply did not allow the Swiss to build from the back. Individually, Saka was immense in this game. Often doubled teamed and still a threat down the right wing. Foden and Mainoo too, operating between the lines were fantastic in constantly finding space, offering themselves and allowing the ball to be moved forwards. The left wing was a problem and until Cole came on we offered no threat there. And then there is the Kane question. He did his job well in the first half with the press. But we need pace up front to worry opponents about a counter and that was lacking. Maybe Watkins offers us that. Another plus. The back three were so calm they were barely even mentioned. So many positives. But the Swiss scored exactly when we as fans sensed they were starting to build sustained pressure. We needed fresh legs, hence Southgate did need to be proactive here and wasn’t. This team have improved at the right time. They have not buckled under the pressure and are clearly united. There is room for improvement but it no longer requires major surgery…
