Man management is a work of art. Some know how to do it others will never know or can't be taught. RIP Brian you are truly a legend.

I woukd suggest that Clough knew Pearce was good enough to play for England, he made him his captain at Forest! He knew his player and knew how to get the best out of those players and how they would respond to different approaches. He is also known for antics for keeping players feet on the ground. He was in my opinion a genius

Well not really? Done well for a few years but not near Ferguson level. Clough used to hide under his desk drunk and scared or other people. That’s not genius. But he did do well a few years but also spent a lot of money for success.

Yes Clough knew he was good enough. Pearce gave everything on the pitch for club and country and had extra attributes to add to the heart he gave. 24 yard free kick let Pearce take it phenomenal striker of the ball. And a good leader to look up to. Top captain no doubts.

Not only was Pearce good enough to play for England but I’d absolutely love to have him in our back four these days. Absolute beast of a defender👍

Stuart gave 100% who ever he played for and i think it rubbed off to the players around him to. They don't seem to have the same commitment when playing like they did in 80's/90's. Clough was a great manager too.

I enjoyed listening to what stuert had to say about Brian clough he was a great manager and stuert was the ultimate professional he gave 100% in every match he played in Lee Hambleton from Sheffield %

This would be typical Brain he'd be like with this with everyone he'd be knocking them down to keep their head in the right place no compromise no exceptions.

I guarantee if BRian Clough had been England manager at the time, he would have had Stuart Pearce down as first name on the team sheet.

😆😆wonder if this would work today with todays players try it out on them and they would cry and ask for a transfer.

I have to say that if I had been the player in that situation I would have taken it to heart and it would have destroyed my confidence but on the other hand you have to be tough to survive in that game so it would have proved I wouldn't have been good enough mentally

This obviously worked on someone like Pearce. Did Cloughy know how to handle people who needed a pat on the back? You'd imagine so, but given his character, you'd imagine it came less easily. He certainly fucked up the Justin Fashanu situation.
