Fantastic - that's the idea. Sow a seed and then someone else takes it from there and makes it better!

This is just a mould silicone, a tin cure 20 Shore A from Mouldlife I think. Any moulding or lifecasting silicone would work I am sure...even alginate actually, although it may split more readily when bending like I did for the bitten apple.

What kind of silicone do you use? Can you use any kind?

It was skin illustrators used over a pale silicone appliance. I don't think in terms of ratios....have no idea or records of that.

Great video with some great ideas as always. I once tried to take a cast of the texture of a foam exercise mat, but it didn't come out well. Just a quick question though, what is that "Cat Plastic" you mentioned to encapsulate the silicone appliance? and do you know where we can get it? Google search is only returning plastic cat images.

This video is wonderful! But I was thinking about the "apple bite" effect: It gives an awesome texture, but isn't the mold (fungus) on the fruit harmful? How do you get rid of it, so your silicone mold doesn't get infected?

The silicone mould can be scrubbed/boiled/bleached or whatever you need to clean it. Then you get a plastiline out of this silicone mould, resculpt the edges and clean up the texture, then make a mould of that. THEN you get an appliance out of this mould....the processes between the apple and skin are numerous. The piece is then applied to skin, not eaten...It's not a problem.

would any of the molds for those silicone prosthetics work as latex prossthetics ?

Do you mean if it is possible to get latex out of the silicone moulds? It is possible, but latex works best from plaster moulds as the water can be absorbed by the plaster. Also, the sulphur in latex will mean you can't easily get silicone appliances out of the moulds in the future as it will have contaminated it. You could make an alginate mould of the silicone mould and make a plaster version to allow you to then get latex copies out without then ruining the original silicone mould.
